    The smile on Dan´s face while the "starring" part is playing, with all the tropes he mentioned early, is priceless!!!

    This was the BEST Honest Trailer I've ever seen (and I LOVE Honest trailers and Wes Anderson). You guys are awesome!! Great job.

    Looking back on it after the trailer for The French Dispatch has been released, the brilliance of this trailer is only magnified. It captures everything perfectly, for both Wes Anderson's most devoted fans singing his praises *and* simultaneously people who hate his work with a passion. When both sides can go "yeah, that's about it", you know you did your work right.

    I don't get the dislike for THE DARJEELING LIMITED. I really think that's one of his very best films! I suspect anyone's favorite Wes Anderson film is just the one that you relate to the most.

      @DarthEd77 Boy, You sure said it, Ed! I dont get the poor ranking by seemingly many Wes fans! I thought it was a masterpiece, by equal turns cathartic and enchanting! A Magical Mystery Tour if you will! At first it seemed the only two devoted Anderson fans I knew thought it was just ok, or didnt care for it as much. Now it seems, as with the Honest Trailer Crew, that I hear many Wesheads either say its men, or ranking it their least fav!
      Honestly, its been my favorite by Wes for quite a while, but after Moonrise Kingdom was released, and after finally seeing Mr. Fox about 3 yrs ago, it may be trumped, but I dont know. Depends on the day, I suppose. Then again, I liked Life Aquatic and it seemed not many people "got" that one. Or if they even knew Wes' work, they didnt like Aquatic, cause it wasnt Tenenbaums!
      Whenever I put Darjheeling on, it feels like I'm going on a much needed, exotic vacation. Heck, There was even a time when I was going through some stress, and I played it on a continual loop, on and off again for a couple of days. Casting my cares on God, and playing that movie (even if just in the background), helped me through that period!
      I especially love the scene set to music by the Kinks, where Adrian Brody is running in slo-mo, to catch up to the train and finally boards it! And then right as he sees his brother Schwartzbaum, how the music lifts up briefly! Love it!! Btw, Darth Ed, curious with your user name, if you're a fan of the band, the 77's?

    On one hand, if you had asked me what celebrity voice the fill-in VO guy was doing I probably never would have guessed Alec Baldwin. On the other hand, his read was fantastic. The tone was perfect, and he nailed every comic beat in the script. I seriously wouldn't have known it wasn't just Jon doing another voice if you hadn't said. So kudos, Screen Junky co-worker!

    Dan makes an interesting point about tactile technology. There's something to the feel of the clicking of a typewriter and the stroke of a brush, that you don't get with a touch-screen or a mouse. In a lot of futurist sci-fi, people don't even touch things anymore, they just wave their hands at holograms in the air. It gives a very interesting "feel" to Wes' movies (pun intended), like you're not just watching it, but physically involved in it somehow.
    And it's not just the tech either. The way he directs the actors, you're not just watching them feel things, you feel like you are the actor feeling the thing, or doing the thing. It's actually a facinating way of capturing the audience.

    Try Stanley Kubrick Honest Trailer.

    • @vibovitold
      @vibovitold 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes but of an individual movie, or movies. Kubrick deserves an Honest Trailer, but he wasn't as formulaic and repetitive (apart from visual style). It's hard to lump "Clockwork Orange" and "2001: A Space Odyssey" into the same bucket.

    • @manningbartlett522
      @manningbartlett522 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed - there are some trademark specific technical elements (eg. lens choices, framing choices) but there is almost nothing formulaic about his work.

      I am the batman it was quite literally a fusion of pure gold and absolute shit divided by scenes. Luke’s finale: brilliant, everything with Finn and Rose: complete crap. Rey and the island: awesome, Poe and the lady general no disclosing the plan for no reason leading to ultimately irrelevant time consuming drama: crap.
      It was kind of like the first draft to the script didn’t make it to the editors and got made rather than redrafted a few times. Now terrible but far from as good as it could have been.
      Also for anyone who says it was the worst Star Wars I have four words for you: “This is pod racing.”

    Good Job. I agreed with almost everything. As i acknowledge that the classic "killing animals / serial killer's childhood" joke is humorous and a well that you guys seemed to enjoy revisiting...I would argue that any time an animal does die, it quickly jumps to a character very eager to show how tough they are by saying they couldn't care less. Thus revealing how much they really do care. (like Steve Zissou's tabby) I haven't had the pleasure or the employment to recently revisit all of the films but i believe most of the animal deaths are met this way, except for Jeff Goldblum's cat but that was just hilarious and maybe done just for the payoff of him holding up a bag of dead cat at Dafoe in disgust. And to even suggest Buckley's death didn't have significance and didn't directly lead to almost all of the Tenenbaums finally moving on and mending their relationships is just silly. His passing was just as vital to the end of that Oscar nominated script as Black track suits and Sir Van Morrison.

      Henry G Charlie Kaufman/Spike Jonze
      Do you really want to make them marathon Lynch ? Other than the fact he’s one of the few filmmakers capable of dread to the point of creeping viewers out have you even seen “Rabbits” you can’t ask someone to explain that
