Would advise getting Automatrics trackers on all your machinery. They can recover them quickly in this event. They have a youtube channel if you want to see.
It's nice to see even at the very top a few days can change your entire feeling / stress levels about your business. One week I feel on top of the world and 7 days later I can feel completely at the bottom! Thanks for the amazing content as always, love the long form day in the lives. Invaluable for a young business owner seeing your philosophies and how you interact with employees etc
I know it sucks to here “should of done this”. But in future hide a tracker on all your expensive equipment. Then hopefully they don’t find the tracker and you can track down the item. Minor investment to save thousands
Most such things that get stolen get left somewhere for 24 hours in case they’re tracked. That way they know if they’re tracked or not, you won’t catch the thieves therefore but you’ll get your kit back and it’ll only be too far away at that point.
Let me tell you something I’ve never seen you do, but I think you should be. Tell us the hotel info! I’ve seen it featured on the videos many times but I’ve no idea what it’s called or where it is. push it to the viewers! Give us a chance to book a weekend away 😂
Really suggest getting prevention consultant too look over your whole business to look for opportunities like trackers and other loss prevention. This is something i do as a consultant, and you will be amazed how many business are loosing money some without even any knowledge. Trusting your team is good but this is a good way to ensure and keep everyone on their toes. Hope this helps some people.
Wow, sorry to hear that. These unforeseen happenings in business can seem overwhelming. Just stick with it and you'll make it. This happened to me twice in the last 12 years...they stole a couple work trucks and about $5k in materials. It hurts at the time, but you can write off losses, so there is that.
This video is fucking amazing. Wish I had more time to study it! I want to know how/what systems you use for computing and the bank accounts and who has access to what banks and budgets and how that all works. Do you trust staff with company bank accounts etc like how does it all work with a big business. Feel like I need a lot of money to hire specialists to take on all my tasks
Another great video full of practical advice and applicable knowledge. Thanks Jim and team for opening the doors to the world of brilliant small business yet again
Your staff are absolutely amazing and happy and I think this is why your business's are so successful because they genuinely care. Heartbreaking you've been robbed. As if running a business isn't hard enough. 😢
James, my sons 9 and is over play centres and adventure parks but we found a place last year that had a ninja Center where the kids had to pay for a band (£2) and run around and try hit as many lights in possible in a time limit to get high score. Teenaged and adults way spending hours on this I thought it was amazing
I love the way you have invested in physical stuff rather than an being a platform aggregator. My first thoughts are that nothing is a ‘ moat’ , the margins are thin, and, it’ll take a stack of marketing to create volume. I’m very impressed that you can take the headaches, frustrations and knocks. To be frank it’s not something I’d thrive in at all. I would not even enter your sectors because it’s complete hassle. You enjoy it. I don’t.
5:00 the bringing services in house thing is interesting, because I used to work for a typical large-ish company who was obsessed with outsourcing everything, and all the staff can see it just doesn't make sense. You lose control over quality, speed and cost all in one go. Amazon is the most prominent exception to outsourcing, they love to in-source everything, as illustrated by them developing their own delivery network in the last few years, only using 3rd party couriers as backups. By bringing services inhouse, they brought in accountability, reduced costs, and improve control by tightly integrating the the newly created service with the rest of the company's systems.
I am in Leigh on Sea, Essex. So I know Rossi Ice Cream, that must be open on New Years Eve and New Years Day, it amazes me how many people go for a walk passed the Westcliff Arches, Rossi who buy a Ice Cream, even if it's freezing cold. People like to get out and have a wonder around. Sorry to hear about your theft, horrible for any business or homeowner to get broken into. They think, it's ok, it will be paid by the Insurance Co, don't realise premiums will go up, as you say, getting the money together to buy or lease another one. Stress factor, sleepless nights. It part of business
Just out of interest how did you get to £70k for an Avante? I’ve been pricing them up and there no where near that? Little tip for the future, we use apple air tags on our machines, very simple form of tracking a machine Good luck with the Dinosaur Park 😊
You could try and get a license for jurassic Park. Pay them a royalty of £1 per customer which would easily pay for itself as their know the brand. It’s a win win.
Why don’t you have a print company?… like every video I watch your that enthusiastic about your prints… just sell all your business and print print print
The boss of a £30million business that includes arts and crafts manufacturing does a business presentation to business owners with inadequate marker pens 😭
I am a business analyst & consultant by trade. We must say literally everything James has pointed out in this video starting with the click bait title but especially towards the end about the model is the gospel truth that any entrepreneur must have in their breast pocket. If your business model ain't right you not making money. Fox that and you will make money. Well done James 💯👍
I have been watching your videos for a few months and took the plunge into business a few weeks back, I leased a small bar in Dublin and it's going well so far, how long would you wait to expand to a second bar ? How many months capital would you want in the bank before taking a second bar? Love the videos , actually changed the way I think and convinced me to take the plunge , thanks keep up the amazing work !!
Can't help but think of your own "in house" logistics operation would be a good idea. Heavy trucks bringing your containers in, down to medium trucks feeding your own hubs. Finally smaller vans / trucks delivering direct to your customers. Cuts out the middle men for sure.
James - have you thought about not doing such spam-click-bait titles for your videos? This video was fascinating - your investment/running marsh farm could be a tv series - it’s that good. But it’s hidden behind these “You won’t believe!” style video titles I’d never click on.
We get a much bigger click through on these titles. We use tools to help us. We put a video up with a nice positive title, no clicks. Change it to negative and as you put it more “cliff hanger” and the clicks then come. Very annoying. Ask any newspaper editor if positive or negative headlines get the clicks/sales. Later this year TH-cam is allowing split tests on thumbnails and headlines so we will try again.
@@JamesSinclairEntrepreneur not trying to teach grandma to such eggs here - but what about smaller videos the ? A series on marsh farm / hotel / etc. I’ve got an attention span of a goldfish now because of tiktok. Takes me 3hrs to watch these. As I have to keep stopping to tiktok for a while between 😂👍 thanks for reply! Top man!!
This week I had 2k worth of tools nicked by a colleague, don’t know which one but it’s not the cost it’s the disrespect that hurts because I’d never steal a man’s tools that feed his family and I’m a generous person to all. I’d dearly love to find out who the thief was because while I’m a good person I can also be horribly aggressive when need be
Something you mentioned early on in the video is the thing I find hardest about business; You can feel like everything is perfect one day and then the next you feel like it’s a disaster. It’s hard to temper both of those and it’s draining
With regards to the extraction in the kitchen. You can save a lot of money by just asking the hotel kitchen staff to once a week give the extraction a clean. Great video as well

To keep elder kids & more importantly big kids like us engaged with theme park you could try something similar to lego land where they have a shop/store to buy items from upon entrance/exit.
