Just a tip for launching the dingy from a beach with a bit of swell. go full throttle in to the wave and when you hit the wave on the nose reduce throttle to get the nose back down. repeat this till you get out of the swell. (I've been a lifeguard at a beach for a few years launching our boat in 2m swell always big fun :) )
That’s a similar technique to riding a trials bike over a big rocks and tree trunks. You use the forward momentum built up in the bike as opposed to the engine power. The risks also appear to be similar in both cases. If the engine is still on full power at the crest of the wave, the propeller will bite into it and launch the boat vertically, then likely flip over backwards, as she said. The same can happen with the rear tyre of the bike, it continues to rotate the bike from a wheelie into a backwards flip. Thank you for sharing your experience. It’s a good reminder to someone who rarely does either of these things anymore. I miss the buzz!! Peace
I've seen the guys at Caloundra doing exactly that. I thought they were just hooning around, but it looks like they are following a considered approach.
14:00 "...hot shower...": Try a Navy shower. Heat the water in sauce pan on your stove. Only need about 1/2 gallon. Only need to heat about a pint to near boiling...then mix with the rest. You're ready to go in less than 5 minutes.
I drive IRBs at the local beach for the surf lifesaving club here in Australia. Best way to launch off a beach like that in a rib is to have both driver and crew in the water - driver at the engine, crew up the front holding the nose down. When it's deep enough, start the engine and leave it in neutral, both still standing alongside the boat. Driver waits until the best moment and calls it. Both driver and crew jump in - crew right up the front to keep that nose down. Driver puts it in gear and drives out into the wave - nose of the boat as square onto the wave as possible. Once you've committed to it - keep going out to the next wave - crew still up the front. Key points are - 1) crew up the front (possibly even lying on their side on the nose) 2) square to the wave. Thanks for the video guys - great as always :)
Congratulations! You two will be fantastic parents. Thank you for taking us along on this new adventure. (Having children was the best decision we made. Ours are now 25 & 21.)
Electric resistance heating is always 100% efficient, so if you know the number of liters, the temprature of the cold water and the hot water, it is 1 Kw-Hr = 860 kilogram calories: So for example, if you are heating 28 liters (7.4 U S Gallons) of water from 10ºC to 60ºC (50ºF to 140ºF) it is a change of 50ºC times 28 = 1400 ÷ 860 = 1.62 Kw-Hr.
Yes the mathematics is correct but not Kw-Hr, it is kWh, *you capitalize the Watt letter because it is someone's name* Also could use: temp change * liters * 0.00117 = kWh required (multiplication almost always is faster than division in computers).

A few years ago I ripped out the thermostat from my Isotherm 34L water heater and replaced it with a thermocouple and an external temperature controller mounted next to the main breaker panel. At a glance you can see the tank temperature and know exactly how "much" hot water you have. Bringing it from 20C->40C is perfectly adequate for a long, hot shower and takes about 1kWh.
Congratulations!!! I hope you are feeling well!!! Such happy news!!! I love that you lugged the motor up separately. It sometimes seems like people work so hard to lug up a fully loaded dinghy and I have wondered why they don't unload it and make it more manageable. I laughed so hard at your ending!!! Poor Kika!

Very fun episode. I did not recognize the "Multiverse" title as a Sailing Uma production, and I watch it every week. That, taken with the big finish, you are constantly raising the bar. Thanks.
It's all about the freshness of the eggs. With a porous shell over time a tiny amount of air gets between the shell and the membrane. So, slightly older eggs are easier to peel and no amount of vinegar in the water will change that. Vinegar will however keep a poached egg in a tighter shape.
Wait, I am confused, so you're suggesting that by skipping 6 months into the future, we went back to last year? can't be last July, since we were in Svalbard, or we were?... Well, I guess since we do live in a multiverse, anything is possible ;)

Water heating: have you thought about a small solar thermal panel? Even if it does not get the water fully hot, it might get it to "not cold" and "more comfortable" - and is a /much/ more efficient way of heating water than using a 20% efficient PV panel via a battery system. And you can still use the heating element to boost it if you want.
I agree with this... if you have sun a thermal panel is best... it gets it most of the way... and then you just use your electric to "keep" it warm.. its like cruse control on a car.. stopping and going is the lease fuel efficent, but once you get to speed and just keep going its more fuel efficent.
@@codyschiemann4732 (edited) I'm afraid the law of thermodynamics does not agree with you. If you keep stuffing power in, heat will keep leaking out. Cheaper to heat it when you need it. Consider: you are not going to need hot water for 100 years. But you keep it hot anyway, because you "might need it" and you think it's cheaper to keep it warm. You would spend a fortune. Now shorten to 10 hours - because you are asleep. Same principle. But needing heat but leaking it constantly, having to put more energy in, just to keep water warm, for nothing. Maintaining a given heat is convenient but it does cost you.
@@ashtontechhelp that might not be what he means. You have sun heating tubes keeping the water warm the when you are about to have a shower you boost with electricity, not using electricity all the time. Also solar thermal losses might be lost to the cabin, so helping keep it warm.

Nice cliff hanger ending there guys. So much beauty in this world goes completely unnoticed by most thank you for sharing what you see/experience with us...
Well congrats. We did the first 3 years of our daughter's life on a 37ft boat. Converted it to electric halfway through. I've got 1.2kw solar so a bit more than you, and use the motor to heat water which I don't think you have the option to do with Oceanvualt. You could perhaps suck heat off the batteries when motoring? That said at anchor there was plenty of energy to heat water, didn't even bother turning it on and off and we used as induction cooker the whole time. With the Victron charge controller/inverter you also have a relay that can be programmed, potential to use this to turn the water on when the bats are 80% full.
That anchorage is what I'd call a "catamaran friendly" place. Watching Uma rock n roll after six months in a marina, I know I wouldn't have slept for a minute.
Chef tip for boiled eggs. Add the eggs to BOILING water using a spoon and cook for required time. Transfer to a bowl with cold running water for a minute or two. Tap shell to crack and peel. The shells will almost fall off. If you cook in cold water the membrane between the shell and egg fixes in place and makes it very difficult to peel the shells from the egg. Adding vinegar to the water only flavours the water. Boiling water is key. Cheers. Peter

We’ve been watching you for a while now but seeing you in Brest, my husband was besides himself - that’s where he did his French Navy service 40 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed your videography :)
Anyone who wants to get a feel for Brest as a locale, with some historical interest thrown in and some truly timeless sailing moves, should read "Hornblower and the Hostpur". This classic book is based around the prolonged blockading of Brest during the Napoleonic wars by the British Navy, in which a young naval commander in the smallest vessel in the squadron is given the job of regularly sneaking as far as he judges he might have a chance of getting away with, up the multiple channels and navigational challenges in that part of the world, in order to gain intel on what the French are up to, and to damage their prospects of breaking out. It's a truly rivetting read, possibly the best of the whole series, and in some of the epic boat-on-boat encounters (on occasions where the little sloop has been a little too foolhardy, given that it is no match for any of the enemy ships if they manage to chase him down or get to windward of him) the commander has to invent and adapt some stunningly crafty high-stakes match-racing moves, several of which were hardly known at the time this book was written. The series was very popular around the world at the time of writing, including in the US where it was serialised for radio.
I’ve missed a few episodes. I noticed your hair so quick, it’s beautifully longer. Lucky dude he is. So 6+months = due date soon. Congratulations to the both of you.

If you get to the Med say hello to Wildings Sailing and Chasing currents both younger🇬🇧 folks living the No sofas life, aboard a couple of older boats.⛵🧙♂️😎💙
I'm glad to see those anchors you roped into looked relatively new and kept up. When I was taught, they hammered into our tiny brains never to trust bolts and tie ins that we didn't put there ourselves. But you both looked safe and had fun so never mind. Great video.
A quick inspection and you can tell if a bolt is no good. But yes, these are all very well maintained by the local climbing club.
I loved the Segway into this episode. Perhaps congratulations are in order.
You don't have to live in a boat to start all cooking with onions. There is no greater smell than fried onions & garlic. :)
Love the cliff-hanger ending.
We adored this episode from beginning to the very end!!! Kika, when you play you(You voice in Your head)it's amazing... an this had me in stitches... Brilliant !! Dan ,that ramen bowl was delicious looking..great tip too pickle juice .. You both are amazing ppl.....now I'm completely curious if the hot water tank work's out at anchor...? Is there anything the two of you together can't do??
Thanks for sharing your lives with us an Fare winds and following sea's ✌🏼💗😊❣️
Love the video. I myself am a Ramen Connoisseur since serving in the military, give pork & beans and 2 slices of Kraft cheese along with a can of tuna fish along with your onion...it's awesome. Your added ingredients looked yummy too! I used to repel out of helicopters 100 ft. up when I was in the Army, loved it!
Congrats to both of you wish you both the best. Just starting the episode but excited
⛵you two inspire thousands around the world... quite an accomplishment ! Bet you had no idea you would become legends when you started your videos. Congrats !!
Nice cliff hanger ending there guys.
So much beauty in this world goes completely unnoticed by most thank you for sharing what you see/experience with us...
So long time ago you do not produced such a beautiful Umasteps! Thank you so much and more more more for it for you aired to us this gorgios one!
What a cliffhanger! so appropriate for an episode about climbing the mast and some cliffs.
Ha, yeah…
I’m pretty sure it went all right 🤟😄
What an incredibly lucky and blessed child.
That anchorage is what I'd call a "catamaran friendly" place. Watching Uma rock n roll after six months in a marina, I know I wouldn't have slept for a minute.
congrats guys ... you will be great parents! take care!
Cheers. Peter
Exactly. It’s life changing if you like boiled eggs.
Congratulations on your exciting news! Great way to tell people. I had to watch the episode twice to fully understand what was going on 😅 Well done!
yes we finally solved the multiverse and time travel problem. you are right, that achievement is indeed worth celebrating!
Ah, you got me big times. Still no baby on the scene. I was convinced. And I'm a midwife 🤣🤣🤣
Congratulations to all three of you. What a lovely surprise. May everyone be well and happy.
Congratulations for finally solving the time travel and multiverse problem...? well Thank you, it's pretty simple really, not sure what all the scientists are fussing about.
That was fun! The multiverse is real :-)! Glad someone else agrees Ramen/noodles are great when you just need food quick :-)! That looks like a great place to go climbing, although it must have been pretty tiring carrying all the stuff up the beach! Great cliff hanger (although thik I remember it from the morning reports!) Already looking forward to the next video!
Do I say this every time? Excellent video and cinematography. It is a joy to watch and I think few commercial operations come close.
I'd like a video where you explain how you do your research on where to go, and what to do when you do choose s place, it might be interesting. This was a great video!
I love watching you two Explore life together that is so awesome
Congratulations!! :)
Kika, you are a hell of a lot braver than I am. I hate going up the mast. I'm not exactly afraid of heights but I don't really trust them either.
BTW, Your hair is stunning. I love it.😍
With her doing Silks she's used to trusting "ropes" and heights.
Wow, what an ending! So intense! The heartbeat sound really made it. And then without explanation it just stops.
Wow, what a great cliffhanger...
I love to watch your TH-cam's... very sympathy and true authentic
I believe, I think I’m sure what I saw was a cute bump…Right? Really?
Oh my goodness😍 Kika and Dan!!
Congratulations 🎊 you guys ❤️👍 Since I started following You guys, through binge watching, became a big fan of you two, I almost feel like I’m your grandma… or auntie… I’m so happy for you guys 🥰🥰🥰 I’m sure you are going to be one of the most down-to-earth, fun, smart, loving, caring, responsible, wonderful and amazing parents in the world 👍❤️🙏🎊💖😍but first, when is due? I’m going to have to mark on my calendar!!! 😍😍😍
Now how far back are we to the real Uma-Time really?
WOw Congregations Love this show Now cant wait to see the new addition to UMA.
Congratulations! 🎉
Gotta say I like you guys and your upbeat positive attitudes and always enjoy your videos. Keep smiling as it's infectious.
Hey, thank you two, I needed a little fun, sun, and sailing...
Love the humor in this video. Enjoying this series. Thanks for sharing.😎
The thumbnail made me think: wait, surely she's pregnant?! Came to the comments for quick confirmation. Congrats! You two will be wonderful parents, surely. May God bless you both and your child.
I feel like she isn't haha :')
I guess Dan and Kika will spend several months on the island of Malta from July or August 2022.
Top news! Félicitations à tous les deux
Propane stove is great for heating water for a shower. Just mix with cool water in a 5 gallon bucket until you get your desired temperature. Use a beverage pitcher too dump it over your head...
Blessings: James 🕊
we don't carry propane onboard.
Funny note, ramen was my college go-to treat also! Used to call it our brain food after studying for exams. Always wonderful checking in with you all and your wonderful adventures! My best to you all always!
Boil the eggs in baking soda water. Just a little bit, like a teaspoon, and the shells peel off quite nicely.
We use to use bosun chairs for working on masts and stages for superstructures and hulls at sea. That’s decades ago no harnesses back then.
Like the video👍👍
A cliffhanger???? very cool. Also liked the French ASW Frigate, FS Bretagne at 6.56.. Nice to see very capable warships guarding the seas.
Thanks a lot you two. I don't sleep so well anyway as an old man. Now I have to worry about whether you got past the last wave. Well, here's to the next episode.
Im just catching up on videos here. what the heck was up with the into? Wheres the Baby?
It's time to get a bigger boat! Gratz to both of you.
Well that’s a wet cliff hanger! On another note, both of you have lost all of your summer tans. Not surprising considering all the layers of clothing during the winter. Thanks for sharing. 😊
That "was" July 202? - re-due-date, including the wand effect...
