- Fire Bowls for your outdoor living area or swimming pool. I was motivated to come up with a more affordable solution because the fire options I found specifically made for pools were fairly expensive.

They look nicez great video, I am looking into doing fire+water bowls
Nice, let me know how it goes with you. Post some photos in Trouble Free Pool if you are a member of that forum. I shared a few photos there when we were working on the pool.
@@AlexErika sure, I will do my best to document it
whats the purpose for the glass on the wall?
Good question. All the fences in our community that have a view have glass instead of a traditional fence. Just an option to have a better view.
@@AlexErika love that! I was thinking you had jumping snakes or something lol
This is amazing! I'm building a country house inground pool and I was looking for fire pits, but they run $3K/bowl. Insane. This is great. I also won't use it but only for 2 weekends per month. I'm going to home depot to get the parts immediately. If you can do a build video that would be helpful. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful. I probably won't do a build video but let me know if you have any questions. It's easy, make sure it drains well if you are in an area with more rain. The terracotta bowls I used are made with heat so they can withstand the heat. Plus the bowls themselves don't ever get hot. A little warm but never too hot.
@@AlexErika I'm ordering the parts right now. Will the water drain out the bottom center hole? I'll put an elastic cover over the top of the bowl when not in use. Also, the link to the gas valve is a 1" NPT, but the gas hose you linked to was a 1/2" NPT. I'm assuming to use both the 1/2" NPT. My pool builder will do the final connections, but I'll build the pot myself. Heading to home depot tonight. Thanks again. Karl from NY.
Yeah, the gas hose kit comes with a coupling to go from 1" to 1/2". At least the one I got did. Don't use appliance gas hoses because they can whistle. Also it does drain out the bottom of the pot. Below the pot I have a 2" PVC pipe that acts as a drain. I know I wanted to do some sort of water feature or fire bowl and I ran that when we did the concrete.
Alex, great vid. Did u put any drain holes in bottom for rainy season? Thanks, Jim
Thank you, yes, there is the drain hole that came with the pots and these pots sit on top of columns that I ran 2" PVC pipe through to act as a drain. When they did the shotcrete for the pool I set the PVC pipes. I knew I might need something to act as a drain depending on if I did fire bowls or a planter.
I’m looking to incorporate water to go along with the fire. Little bit of a challenge, but hopefully I’ll figure it out. Thanks again.
Awesome...Appx $429.12 for 2 . The only issue I have is the gas installation.
Nice job! I'm trying to build some fire bowls also. Wondering if you have an automatic igniter? I'm trying to turn my manual fire feature into a automatic igniter. Trying to figure out how I will get it all together.
I don't, from everything I read and all my friends the automatic fire features seem to get worse over time. Not sure if that's because of our area in San Diego and being close to the salt water. I went with a simple valve and light them with a long lighter.
Just purchased a set of the rings.
I have a fire set up, but the flame is low, these seem to have a better output
I know some rings sold have specific designs for lower or higher flames. I don't know what I purchased but know that they were designed for fire bowls, versus a fire pit.
could you share the link for those rings please?
@stefanr7615 they are listed in the description of the video.
how to do this without gas connection from utility co?
Good content very informative 👍👏🏼
Thank you
Well done, looks great! Clicked your link, the 18" ring says "max rated up to 150K BTU's" but curious if you have any idea how much gas you actually use (I think you said you have the gas about half-open) in a couple hours of use... any idea?
Sorry for the delay, we have a 1 inch gas line going to the pool heater and the two fire bowls. I don't know the BTU's and calculations but I know we have had the jacuzzi going and fire bowls at the same time without any issues. I usually have the valve at about 75% because the flames get a little too tall if I go any higher. As far as the cost of gas. That's hard to say but it is noticeable if we do this on a regular basis. But the cost of gas in general is pretty expensive these days.
@@AlexErika thanks Alex!
Nice job!
Question, how much pressure is your regulator set to? Normal house hold stoves, water heaters need about 7” of water column to operate, which equates to about 1/4 psi.
I have a 36” fire pit with with a 2 psi regulator and boy does she rip!! lol
@francop962 honestly I have no idea or maybe this question was directed to the original comment.
looks great.. where did you buy the gas kit from
Amazon, link is in the description of the video. Get the "Tall Flame" option no matter what you get.
Hey Alex my pool is under construction currently and wanted to add fire bowl as well. I am little confused on the drain part since I will have to probably keep a propane tank in the back to have a fire bowl. Will the water come out of the whole where the pot is connecting for gas?
If you still can I'd probably run two different conduits, one to use as a drain and another to use for your gas line. I used galvanized pipe to tap into my natural gas line that goes to the pool heater. And here in San Diego it barely rains so I wasn't as concerned but having a separate conduit would be a good idea to keep the drain separate from the gas line.
@@AlexErikaNice! Yea out here in Sacramento doesn't rain to much so I figured I could find a cover and keep it covered during winter time since I can only run one pipe.I'll probably have to go with a steel 1/2 pipe for gas line.. unfortunately, I have no heater source and will probably go with solar next year. My pots hole ended up being extremely small and I don't feel to comfortable drilling through it. Darn thing was $155 each lol.
What can you do if you don’t have gas? I live too close to a year round creek.
Is propane an option or just regular fire pits?
REALLY IMPORTANT! I had a company come out and install Fire and Water bowls about 3/4 the size you'r running. I have a gas kitchen stove, gas water heater and our home is heated with gas along with the pool. Our meter can handle all of these components UNTIL we added the fire bowls. They use a lot of Natural Gas as compared to the other appliances and heaters. We actually had to install a larger Gas Meter to handle the gas going out. Which was expensive. If you tee'd off your pool healer line, have you had a contractor check and see if your running enough gas pressure for your pool heater to function properly? along with the other gas appliances throughout your home. We never even thought off these obstacles until the contractor hooking up the fire bowls with gas and electricity indicated we were using up way too much gas than our current meter could handle. You may save $1000 on fire bowls this way but you'll spend double that for the correct meter needed to run everything. I would suggest anybody wanting to do this, have a contractor come to your home and add up all the BTU's needed to run all your home gas products and then add how many BTU's to kick on the fire bowls. willing to bet most will be in my position with a meter not designed to run that capacity.
Good information. We already have a large gas meter and when we run these bowls, which is not often, in the evening we are not usually running other things. Although we have had these bowls running and a 36" fire pit ring and our jacuzzi running all at the same time without any issues. Also because natural gas has gone up a lot in the last couple of years we don't run these that often because it can cost about $100 per evening when we are running the jacuzzi, fire pit and bowls all at the same time. It definitely adds up in gas fees.
@@AlexErika Right on! I like hearing that. Yea it's funny as my gas bill is usually $450 t0 $500 a month running hot tubs, fire pit, and all the house gas appliances . Summer comes and heating the pool and running the fire bowls (which really eat up the gas) I'll go to $1k easily. Fire bowls look awesome but they burn the gas! Our original meter was now way near what we needed.
@@tylermannos6988you just have to run it off the other side of the meter. It reduces gas bills😂
@cl4367 🤣🤣🤣
Can you please post links to the burners?
I posted the links in the description but here you go. This is what I used because it gives off a high flame. amzn.to/3Akp1NK
Can I ask where you sourcee the terra cotta bowls?
I purchased them at a local nursery in the San Diego area. Not sure what area you are in but they had a few options but inventory was always different.
@@AlexErika I am in north san diego county
Terra Bella Nursery is the nursery where I purchased the pots.
How do they drain when it rains?
I have some PVC pipe I ran through the concrete pillars that act as a drain.
