Jason Isbell gets near universal acclaim and I still think he's criminally underrated. The man can take out your heart, chew it up and stick it back in your chest and leave you thankful.

Amber your comment is crazy contradicking. I was so upset he left Drive by Truckers. That was as good as a guitar attack I've ever witnessed. Now I see that we have Jason and the Truckers so it's all good.

So sorry to hear. I cant imagine the hurt. Isbell’s writing and especially his performances bring out the emotion that takes a great song to the next level and makes music connect to our lives. I have an Isbell live experience in a similar but different story that is too long to go into here but I will never forget.

"A man walks into a bar and leaves before his ashes hit the floor."
That Lyric has never left my mind since I first heard it. It reminds me of when I was going through Bulimia. I remember I walked into the bathroom to throw up my food, but I stopped myself and left to never returned to that mind set.

This version of this song is just criminally underrated! It has so much. So many good crescendos, Chad Gamble having a blast on the drums, and that solo/bridge towards the end of the song...Live from Alabama in general is such a great album and I hope that anyone that found him after Southeastern goes back and listens to this album.

been listening to this southern poet since the DBT days, Isbell has a voice that pulls you and makes you emote involountarily, just saw him in Geneva, NY at the Smith Opera House. Even with a botched mix job by local staff his genius and stage command overpowered the audience. I don't think there is anyone in his league.

Lyrics:got green and I got bluesAnd everyday there's a little less difference between the two.
    So I belly-up and disappear.
Well I ain't really drowning 'cause I see the beach from here.I could take a Greyhound home but when I got there it'd be gone
Along with everything a home is made up of.
So I'll take two of what you're having and I'll take all of what you got
To kill this goddamn lonely, goddamn lonely love.Sister, listen to what your daddy says.
Don't be ashamed of things that hide behind your dress.
    Belly-up and arch your back.
Well I ain't really falling asleep; I'm fading to black. You could come to me by plane, but that wouldn't be the same
As that old motel room in Texarkana was.
So I'll take two of what you're having and I'll take all of what you got
To kill this goddamn lonely, goddamn lonely love.Stop me if you've heard this one before:
A man walks into a bar and leaves before his ashes hit the floor.
Stop me if I ever get that far.
The sun's a desperate star that burns like every single one before. And I could find another dream,
One that keeps me warm and clean
But I ain't dreamin' anymore, I'm waking up.
So I'll take two of what you're having and I'll take everything you got
To kill this goddamn lonely, goddamn lonely love.

I saw him 3 times last year and it wasn’t enough. Looking forward to years and years of great music from him on top of an already deep catalogue. Between him, DBT, Ryan Bingham, Hays Carll, and others the world is in a good place for meaningful music.

The Love of my Life,, left me, after 36 1/2 years. I sure as hell Know about Lonely Love! No better way to state it,, than what Jason sings. 👍😊❤️✌️

The 400 Unit is a really tight backing 3-some. Holding aside the drummer's goofy facial expressions, he does some great work on this song and the others on this album. Could listen to JI and these guys for a long time.

you have clearly never played drums guitar etc for an actual crowd i promise the last thing your thinking about is "i wonder what my face looks like right now" if you think that is distracting you should watch john mayer do a guitar solo

Coty West You're correct. If you're really feeling the music and NOT making a face, there's something wrong. I call it the stanky face, like you just smelled something bad.

I had the distinct pleasure of seeing Jason Isbell in Raleigh and then Charlotte the following night (this week); Absolutely amazing, an incredible voice, a rare glimpse of raw, masterful emotion....as his transformation progresses, his music follows...such an old soul
