I just saw Jason Isbell last night in Salt Lake City. It was, hand down, the best concert I've ever been to. He is an incredible songwriter and incredible live. I'm a fan for life.

James Jones He possess that rare talent you often don't find (especially in today's music world). The combination of his lyrics and melody are hypnotizing. Intoxicating almost. No matter what emotion you may be feeling when you start the song you always end with whatever emotion the song intends. Especially his sadder songs like Go It Alone or God Damn Lonely Love. It just hits you square in the feels.
"Goddamn Lonely Love" is the most eff-ing incredible song I've ever heard. I could listen to Jason sing that song, and play that guitar, all day long, all night long, until that lonely, desperate star gives up its last little bit of light... wonderful player; a musician with a poet's soul.
a few recommendations for you if you like this sort of talent: Zach Bryan, Sierra Ferrell, Lost Dog Street band/Benjamin Todd, Dayton Farley, Colter wall, and Willie Carlisle. Might not like all of the styles but al of those guys are raw as fuck like this dude.

Kudos to you as a father for teaching the kid such great music. My father was a drummer in an 80's style band. He tried his hardest to instill that sound in me. It never stuck. I've always been a blues and soul fan. I've seen Jason live twice and I still I'll continue to be amazed by his genius.
I keep coming back to this concert and particularly this version of Alabama Pines. I think Jason Isbell really proves here that he is capable of bringing his wonderful voice and superb guitar together to make something that is so rich. It just blows me away.
I grew up in Deep East Texas, very similar to how Jason did in Alabama, even lived in Alabama for several years. Pine Trees have played a big part in my life. And I am a recovering alcoholic. Hits Home Hard!

While I think he is finally getting some well deserved attention, more people should know his music. Much like Cory Branan, Jason is one of the greatest songwriters of our generation yet the general public knows nothing of him.

Just saw him last weekend in concert at CMAC in Canandaigua NY. Great show and this song, Go It Alone, was big in the set. I rode my motorcycle 400 miles to see the show, .. and another 170 miles AFTER the show cause I couldn't get a motel room. And it was worth EVERY INCH!
I've seen Jason in London three times (with tickets for a fourth next January) - once solo, once with Amanda Shires and once with his full band. Whilkst the meaning in his songs may be the same, the interpretation is different every time. His lyrics are amazing and insightful, his tunes are captivating and his voice is one of the most varied and powerful in modern music. Quite brilliant!
