Or do the put the cars on those 'wheel roller skates', and the each group of engineers assemble a specific aspect before rolling the car to the next 'crew'? One of the benefits of Mass Production is that the build quality is able to be 'perfected' and precisely repeated. Where with the Ferrari, someone probably just accidentally grabbed a couple longer bolts from the wrong pile, and couldn't be arsed to go back and replace them when he noticed they didn't quite fit...
The funny thing is that many 'luxury' items are actually 'inferior' to cheaper mass produced examples. Like a $5 Quartz 'Swatch' will be more accurate than a $500K Richard Mille mechanical/automatic watch! However at least with watches, the luxury brands are usually defined by their attention to manufacturing/finishing detail and material selection. While 'supercars' are appreciated for their appearance (from 10 feet away), and Performance (when they work).
Also, FERRARI just isn't the 'Top Of the Line' supercar where you should expect unmatched performance AND compulsive concern for flawless build quality/reliability... Ferraris are a RELATIVELY affordable 'supercar' that offer great performance (power/steering) and an enviable design (from 10 feet away), but aren't intended to feature things like exact panel gaps, impeccable paintwork or a complete lack of 'creaks/rattles/loose tail-lamps... Your honest, passionate and authorative delivery and style are addictive. The sheer joy you excude from owning such a thing if beauty is plain for all to see A great watch!
The Scuderia is destined to appreciate in value like many of the other "special" series cars from Ferrari. I think you are doing the right thing. When things get tired or worn, replace them( while you can). Niggling problems detract from the joy of driving nice cars so it's worth it to keep it in tip top shape.
A word of thanks Jay Emm. I purchased a Scuderia recently and have greatly appreciated your Ferrari content. It took 4 months and 4 cars before finding the right one. I look forward to driving the county roads in Northern Michigan in my first Ferrari. Keep up the great work! Best regards.
Hey James... Fellow 430 Scuderia owner here, great to watch and share your journey. I feel your service cost pain, I've been taking mine to a reputable specialist for years (have owned my Scud for 10 years) and each year the bills have just gotten bigger. To start they went from 3K to 4K 'acceptable' incremental increases, up to my last years bill of £17k!!! gulp! Am now at the difficult cross roads of maybe time to sell, as much as I love the car it's just not sustainable to swallow these costs. Keep saying to myself - one more year and am sure I've broken the back of what needs doing.. ...so maybe one more year to see where I am ;-) Trouble is, as you say they are just too good. They'll neve make another Ferrari like it again and for its price point (IMO) unmatched. Enjoy the car for as long as you can matey and keep up the good work on the channel.
Kudos for your honesty James. It manifests the reality that this Italian prancing horse is put together by quite frail parts which perish rather quickly even with minimal use and careful storage. In short, they have built and quality issues en masse.
The reason for the low mileage might be that Ferraris are famous for being not reliable and horrible painful on long distances. My old boss owned a Ferrari and a Mercedes AMG and always when he had to go for distances above 100 km especially when some Autobahn was included he used the AMG. The cars where approximately the same age and he sold the AMG with above 150.000 km while the Ferrari was about 20.000. Interesting is that the service costs for the Ferrari was quite the same as for the AMG despite the fact that the AMG ran 7 times the distance.
@@habi0187 ok. I wanted to make sure I wasn't looking at it from an American perspective given you can have large distances between major cities. Every year I go from Cleveland to Detroit for the Detroit auto show which is about 650km roundtrip. I guess I'm ok spending a long time on the road with the occasional stop to switch drivers.
Yep. I had a F430 and everything was crazy expensive. The rear lights break the fittings holding them every 10 minutes . As you video shows you can't use the performance on the road . A quick dab on the power, lots of noise then you have to lift off. Motorways are different when quiet. Everything becomes a blurr very quickly . Sold it very cheaply and was happy to see it go.
Thanks for the transparency. The buying of a car is only 20% of the thing....the ongoing issues are the real thing. Deep down secret...drove an R32 the other day....and it made me super happy too.....maybe we all need a deep pause.
Just had the steering clock spring changed on the Toyota Hilux @ 210,000 km which I had minor heart burn when I heard the price…approx £600. Feeling better after watching your video 👍😂. Enjoy your work. Cheers.
I'll never be able to afford a supercar so this is all irrelevant to me. But videos like this make me realise why a lot of people opt for the Audi R8 or something similar, for how theyre just easier to live with. I always used to think "well surely if youre spending 100k plus on a supercar itll cost loads of money to run, be atrocious on fuel and generally expensive - so why get a boring R8?" After seeing the extensive problems that certain Italian brand cars can have (Ferrari), I can now appreciate why a buyer may go with an R8 instead. The idea of buying a car like this and having it spend most of its life being repaired and churning out costly repair bills doesnt seem appealing to me
Makes me feel better about my recent major service/work on my cayman s 😂. They are a labour of love though and I would rather be driving it knowing it’s up together. Great talk through and it’s an epic car.
James - I’ve been indulging in your back catalog lately, although I’ve watched them all before, they’re well worth revisiting - outstanding videos. Thank you
Yes, I find a lot of JayEmm's videos are very rewatchable. Especially the ones where he tells us how much everything costs to maintain. I watch those everytime I need to talk myself out of buying a used exotic, lol.
Really enjoyed the video James thank you, currently on Autotrader cheapest Scud is £150k most expensive £180k, so yes £10k hurts a LOT but worth it when it comes to resale and you have the enjoyment of knowing your car is spot on.
I took my GT4 to Center Gravity. They were great guys and I enjoyed the whole process of getting involved with Chris and Pete, understanding the changes they were making and how they would affect the car.
Boss of mine got his Ferrari serviced at a dealership, they 'forgot' to tighten the wheel nuts and the car was violently vibrating on the way home 😮 SHOCKING
This has also happened to me when I had a Boxster, the bolts weren’t torqued up and so worked themselves loose on my trip back from the garage. It sounded like the brake pads were down to the metal, a constant grinding noise. Lost a bolt on that trip as well. At least the garage replaced it for free.
Listening to you naming all the prices of everything needing done, somehow makes me feel a lot better about spending 2000 euro fixing the wheels and bodywork of my cr-z.
I'd replace the tail lights with the Scuding Swiss versions. Much better quality than OEM, and half the price. I have them on mine, along with their LED conversion kit. You can always return it to OEM in less than an hour, but a great upgrade that retains the OEM lighting.
The key comment here is "when it IS done, it'll be perfect". Because it's such a highly tuned, delicate thing, it'll never be 'done'. It will always be waiting for the next massive bill to be paid, endlessly filling Ferrari's coffers. Quite clever of them really.
Interesting review. Sorry you had to spend so much to make it right. I have a 09 16M Scuderia which I bought in 2010 with 600 miles on her. I have put 38,800 service free mikes on her, and at last years service still had 92% clutch life, which even the dealer couldn’t believe, but such is the fact. Other than an annual service and tires the car has cost me nothing. It’s my favorite of the three I own ( six speed 360, and a Speciale) hope to never sell it. Put another 280 miles on her yesterday. Anyway, my 2 cents. K. Lombino
What I like about you James, is that out of the ton of supercar youtube channels out there, yours feels grounded... I dont know if I am conveying things properly. Take triple F Collection guys for example. That channel is too much. It feels completely out of touch with reality. It feels more like "flexing" material rather than something "attainable". I am not judging, nor do I criticize. Just expressing what feels better for me. Sometimes "less" is more. This is a video where you mostly just talk about the issues that your car has. It feels intimate. It really makes you appreciate what it realistically means to truly own such a car. Very glad to bump on your channel back with the Roma review. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for your video, it was good to watch! You should maybe ask the Ratarossa to service your Ferraris in future - he seems like the man that can get Ferrari things done properly...
I came very close to buying an F430 back in 2020, but got myself a 911 GT3 instead. I'm just too chicken to take on the liability of owning one of these lovely Ferraris. Good on you for doing that!
I own a classic Ferrari Mondial 3.2 cabriolet. I’m glad you made the statement that you can either own one and maintain it and enjoy it or not. Yes there is an “F” tax on some parts and service, but the driving experience more than pays for itself. I am fortunate that I can perform most of my own service. It always needs something, but most used cars do. As a owner do your diligence to keep the vehicle maintained and drive it. A well driven Ferrari is much better to own than a garage queen. Cheers James and keep up the good work!
All good points but like all these expensive high grades, once the maintenance period runs out, they are got rid of like a hot potato and thus no investment value. The new buyers and owners don't know what a spanner is. Buy a Daytona, 512, 308, Mondial etc..
Took my AM Vantage for its service yesterday, oil and brake fluid change £770! They do an inspection where they found my car needed an extra work totaling £5800! Ive worked out i can do all the work they say is need for way under £1000. For example i have a stuck exhaust valve thats stuck open (what a shame lol) The repair a complete new rear box for £3000! Rear fog not working the repair a new rear light at £1100. Hate going there but when the time comes people want that stamp in the book.
As emotive as these cars are, they're made of butter, its just to much of a risk to own one... Well done for having the 'bottle' to own and show us all exactly what it takes !
Really interesting video, breaking down the costs. As someone who will never be in a position to own one, its really interesting to get an insight into the supercar world.
Those are all minor issues really. Although it may hurt the budget a little (or more) but once it's done, it will be done and an exquisite example. Good video/Info! I'm still searching for mine!
I have an F1 F430, love it to death. Definitely peak analog, you feel so connected to the machine and is forever intoxicating to drive. I've driven a Scud on a track a few times and is a great machine, but the near double asking price is definitely a hard pill to swallow, even if you have the cash. That being said most F430's at this point are somewhat ropey, and some improvements can be made to get you closer to the Scud experience, at a fraction of the cost: 1) Fresh Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres with Scuderia alignment specs for sharper handling and steering feel 2) Exhaust Valve Remote for better sound under 4k rpms 3) Scud Inc F1 Relay for better shift quality 4) Fresh Acculmator and F1 Fluid change, also for improvement in shift quality I haven't done it, but you can also remove the triangle shaped sound insulation in firewall bulkheads for more in-cabin engine noise like Scud Note: getting a car with CCB will increase handling/suspension due to less unsprung weight over uneven road surfaces If you really want to go hardcore, you could also add 430 challenge engine mounts and lower car on stock suspension, but I'm happy with my more road biased set-up
Really enjoy watching your reviews, if I’m looking for car reviews i immediately look at top gear/ fifth gear, and then yourself.. then check to see if Chris Harris has done a review.. you are excellent at this, show true passion for motoring which is what a lot lack, IMO. Like some feel like there reading off a script! Some awesome cars you’ve done, I can’t believe that bill! That’s insane! Thanks for the entertainment!
Always looking at nice cars for sale etc. But then remember the necessity of main dealers and getting had for parts and servicing. It's a rich mans game
Crikey, those prices! This is the problem with deferred maintenance, it costs a bomb to put it all right again. Considering that the car came from a supercar dealer, this is shocking.
Don't feel too bad. I've owned a Corvette since new. And have put nearly 120K miles on it. In the past 3 years, I've put $15K-16K into it getting it back to 100% operating condition. Most of the money was rebuilding the interior part of the HVAC and a failed fuel pump. The rest was mostly maintenance...brakes, tires, belts, battery, hood struts, bad oil sender, plugs, HT wires, coil packs...was it worth it....YES!!!!! 🍻
Excellent video! I've had my F430 spider for about 9 months now and i absolutely love the car, but the maintenance costs are draining me and i can't keep up😢
@Patryk Kaziow one of the 5 hoses that control the F1 gearbox went out and the hoses are $1200 each without labor and you have to replace all 5. I also just hit a large puddle of water that completely ripped off the bumper and diffuser. A new bumper is $12,000 without labor plus the cost of a diffuser
@Stan Lee lol I got caught in a rainstorm coming home. I was 5 minutes from my house and it went from barely sprinkles, to flooding. I learned my lesson
Yeah, it's fun when someone's REPAIR BILL is nearly the same money you spent to actually PURCHASE your entire car! lol Like when James & Jezza compared their Bentley/Rolls repair bills, and commented about whether the shop had just put an entire VW GOLF in the boot! lol
13:50 "You're doing road-legal speeds." My F430 is the only car I haven't gotten speeding citations in. Even in downtown Tokyo, it's so rewarding to just shift and brake as you meander through the canyons of glass and steel. The carbon fiber brakes are a bit touchy especially to release but having mastered it you're as smug as a cat owner whose cat only lets YOU pet it.
I enjoyed the real life style video. I appreciate your attitude about the car- drive it- enjoy it! There is a channel “Normal Guy Supercar” where he shows how to remedy those taillights. He has a lot of helpful videos on the 430…I don’t know exactly but I believe the taillight video is a few years back. Best of luck, cheers.
Ouch, I feel your pain! Far too often, it is necessary to sort out a batch of issues when you take on a new Ferrari. It seems there are plenty out there who move cars along once issues develop and independent dealers happy to let them do it - at top prices..
best thing ever was deciding to become a mechanic when I was 15. Even though I quit working as a mechanic at 30 years ago, I can fix any car. No one touches my Porsches, motorcycles etc.. The cost for non mechanics is insane. Problem with Ferrari, even the parts are insanely expensive. Been thinking about it, but keep saying no, but then the itch is still there.
Hi James recently done the split lower outter suspension joint gaiters and track rod end covers on my old Zafira. Parts were £3.19 with Free P&P and as Im not a motor mechanic took me 20 mins...Seems you are being taken for a ride in your own car but I bet the dealership make you feel very welcomed with a great coffee and a warm doughnut.
Love these type of videos. Seriously interesting and frightening in equal measure. Also really respect James' dedication to his cars and their prospective next owners. Nice work
Another great video mate. Always makes me wonder why these super cars always have so many trivial things missing such as rubber for fuel cap etc. And why someone never had things like that sorted asap. Bit like Rolex owners who don't keep box and papers 🤣🤣🤣.
I Bought my Porsche 997 from a Porsche specialist in London. They have been in business well over 20 years and talk the talk. But when I came to sell the car just over a year later, I found out that the clutch needed replacing. I thought the clutch was really heavy but when I queried it after I bought it, they reassured me that it was normal. Turns out, it is the first sign of the clutch going. The second sign is a shuddering when changing from first gear and lifting up. So they must have knowingly sold it like that. I am thinking if I buy a performance car in the future, take it to a specialist / dealer to check the car out before purchasing. Thoughts ?
If you can logistically negotiate it, a pre-purchase inspection from an independent party should always be pursued. Especially on anything over 5 years old it can and will make the difference between living a dream scenario and getting utterly hosed.
Amazing story, very well told. As for your mystery noise, look at the roll bar end links. You'd be amazed how they can cause noise to sound as though it is coming from another place in the car.
Whilst much was elective, I had a 355 for 4 years and drove it a lot. The average yearly costs on maintenance / paint (buttresses) … a stage 2 Capristo… were in excess of £8k. I could cope with that (just) but the intermittent issues with the engine eventually did it for me.
There are exceptions to the following...; you get a great deal but pay for it later, or you pay a high price for the best example (I bought a manual F430 with 1,800 miles a few years ago) and have some depreciation but avoid hefty service bills...for a time anyway. Either way, you bought the ticket so take the ride...
Great vid, James!! This is the truth behind running all supercars!!! ... You are right.. just drive it!! Work on bringing in 10x the running costs in monetary terms.. and you'll be laughing as well as smiling!!👍🙂
Sorry James, but it seems you have a not very well tight screw on the rear window/ bonnet: check it at 5:03! All the best for you. Keep the videos coming! Abraço
Well all know that Lamborghini dealership. They are renowned for what you experienced. Maybe you should do a video on your experience with them. It would be very interesting indeed
I fixed broken rear light units as it was only cracked mountings on them that had failed. Fixed all 4 units on my friends 430 several years ago. Removed cleaned and rebonded back together.
A lot of money, but it could have been much worse. Age isn't friendly to supercars and bills are expensive. But what a glorious 430 Scuderia you have James.
I can beat that with ease. Took my V12 Vantage in for a service last year. They found that on the front brakes, one of the bolt heads from the 10 bolts that secure the carbon fiber brake disc to the hub had come off. The bolt shaft itself was still engaged and working in shear. They wanted to charge me £10k+ to replace the front brake discs and assembly because the bolts are not sold separately and everything comes as a complete kit......so £10k for one defective M6/M8 bolt. I don't think so. Lost a lot of respect for Aston Martin (Wilmslow) that day.....
Regarding rear lights.. until recently I had a F430 coupe with the same issue. I bought a black Staedtler eraser from Amazon and cut it into small triangular wedges: stick one down the side of the light fixture and the body panel and it will hold it in place and stop it rattling. A good stopgap until you can get them fixed or replaced and means they wont shake loose and fall off (they are an expensive part as they are the same ones fitted to the Enzo)
If you buy a car as special and beautiful as this and DON'T drive it then you dont deserve it either! These are cars that SHOULD be driven, it is their whole reason for existing. Agree 100% Jay!
This is the reason I am glad I don't drive Ferrari's anymore. I don't think many of the items are really necessary that people do but in the UK at least there is this insane mindset about re-sale, mileage and FSH etc which of course is used by dealers and independents to their full advantage. End of the day it is just another car and a relatively simple one at that. Prior owner of my old 348 as an example had replaced belts numerous times and other "precautionary" items to the extend he had spent close to 20k in 5 years while driving maybe 4k miles in total. My last 430 also had a list of recommended items that in reality were not needed or could be delayed ever time I went to an independent. These days I prefer to drive an older car and work on it myself. If you can deal with the parts issues and want a Ferrari its dead simple to work on a 328 and older model and more fun. Personally I moved to a C6 Corvette and life is a lot easier, plus I can drive the care a lot more often without worry. No pre service to drive to Spain etc in the summer or worry about doing too many miles/resale. Yeah Ferrari a more engaging car but what's the point if you rarely drive it. Like dating a super model but not have sex with her as they say,
@@EvoraGT430 People don't like to admit it, but if your CONSTANTLY concerned about how everything that happens to the car will affect the resale value, then you CAN'T really afford the car... Just buy a nice framed poster of the car and put your money into something that earns interest.
This thing sounds unreal, the kind of sound that even after all the doubt. Makes you want to keep it Auto gearboxes we’re never a thing I appreciated until I drove a friends 720s and I suddenly got it, a manual just isn’t quick enough to keep up and it was just too fast to think about changing gears with a stick.
I recall you comparing the Scud sound to the Massa Stradale. You were right it does sound like there's something missing. This was addressed with the 458. Irrespective I love the spec & would buy one in a heartbeat if I could afford it!
I actually prefer when the cars don't shift gears too quickly, then you get more of the feeling that a new gear is in, and you get to feel the acceleration time and time again. Too fast boxes just feel sterile, it doesn't sound as nice. Not as effective on track, but the difference is minimal. Feeling ahead of time 😊
You are 100% right! the visceral feel of that slight pause between shifts if far more fun and enjoyable than the super quick shifts. I have been in many superfast modern dual clutch supercars and they have a dull way of delivering the power. Unless you are making money for the fastest 1/4 mile all the enjoyment of accelerating and shifting is the small gap between gears that makes you appreciate each gear you are in so you don't feel a dull CTV type of transmission feel. The 430 is the best for that. I hope to drive a Scud some day to experience that difference from 150ms to 60ms F1 shifts.
Lucky you have lots of money. After your video, even if I had the money, I would not buy one. You have confirmed what I have been told numerous times. Expensive cars are mostly unreliable and expensive to fix. Enjoyed your frankness.

8k on a Ferrari Is normal
The Scuderia is destined to appreciate in value like many of the other "special" series cars from Ferrari.
I think you are doing the right thing. When things get tired or worn, replace them( while you can).
Niggling problems detract from the joy of driving nice cars so it's worth it to keep it in tip top shape.
It’s tough pill to swallow but an important one to share James, this is the reality of car ownership! Good on you sir!
I hope you enjoy it!
I think the problems are often the cars just sitting - this one only did 6000 miles in ten years, that is not good for a car
100km is considered a long drive? Seems like a short journey to me.
@@bmstylee to me as well but as to my old boss in a Ferrari 100 km is a long trip.
Cheers.
Happy to help! If I'm feeling bad about Ferrari prices I just ask my friends what a Nismo part would be
Man did you get ripped off
@@bumfluffmcregor3730 yep. The oem part from Toyota is about £500…maybe time to move up to a Lexus…come to think of it, it’s probably the same part 🤔
The idea of buying a car like this and having it spend most of its life being repaired and churning out costly repair bills doesnt seem appealing to me
James, looks like there is a rear window bolt backing out. Hopefully you haven't lost it before this video came out 😮

James - I’ve been indulging in your back catalog lately, although I’ve watched them all before, they’re well worth revisiting - outstanding videos.
Thank you
Very kind thankyou!
Yes, I find a lot of JayEmm's videos are very rewatchable. Especially the ones where he tells us how much everything costs to maintain. I watch those everytime I need to talk myself out of buying a used exotic, lol.
@@stickshift6835 lol I know what you mean. Mate brought a 488 around, the other day, watching this has brought me back down to earth!
Really enjoyed the video James thank you, currently on Autotrader cheapest Scud is £150k most expensive £180k, so yes £10k hurts a LOT but worth it when it comes to resale and you have the enjoyment of knowing your car is spot on.
Good point… but I think this car was bought on finance ….?
I took my GT4 to Center Gravity. They were great guys and I enjoyed the whole process of getting involved with Chris and Pete, understanding the changes they were making and how they would affect the car.
I’ve taken a couple of Porsches to Centre Gravity and it’s transformed the handling both times, very good guys!
Boss of mine got his Ferrari serviced at a dealership, they 'forgot' to tighten the wheel nuts and the car was violently vibrating on the way home 😮 SHOCKING
I had that happen. Both front wheels only finger tight. They forgot the torque them up after it came off the ramp. Crazy how often it happens
This has also happened to me when I had a Boxster, the bolts weren’t torqued up and so worked themselves loose on my trip back from the garage. It sounded like the brake pads were down to the metal, a constant grinding noise. Lost a bolt on that trip as well. At least the garage replaced it for free.
Happened with my BMW. Thank god i had my tire iron.
Should have gone to halfords or quickfit 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
A similar experience (twice) is why I now service it myself. No one getting paid by the hr is going to care about your special car more than you.
Love your enthusiasm, insight and honesty. Maybe not for me but anyone who loves cars will understand why you go through the pain.
Listening to you naming all the prices of everything needing done, somehow makes me feel a lot better about spending 2000 euro fixing the wheels and bodywork of my cr-z.
Hearing them quote 2500 pounds for a water pump makes me feel much better about having the pump replaced on my BMW Z3 for a fifth of that too
Thank you for being so candid. These sort of cars are unreliable and very expensive to fix. Unless you are rich, don't buy one.
The first service of my C8 Corvette HTC Z51 was $400. That’s a full oil change with filter and a transmission fluid change with filter.
I'd replace the tail lights with the Scuding Swiss versions. Much better quality than OEM, and half the price. I have them on mine, along with their LED conversion kit. You can always return it to OEM in less than an hour, but a great upgrade that retains the OEM lighting.
JayEmm you are a true gift to automotive journalism, unbiased, thoughtful and articulate delivery.
Here’s to you sir!
Thanks J B!

Best vid I’ve seen in a while! Good on you James for honesty revealing the true costs of ownership, but also the true worth and value of ownership!
Nah
Certainly the suspension is butter.
You on drugs
I have an F1 F430, love it to death. Definitely peak analog, you feel so connected to the machine and is forever intoxicating to drive.
I've driven a Scud on a track a few times and is a great machine, but the near double asking price is definitely a hard pill to swallow, even if you have the cash.
That being said most F430's at this point are somewhat ropey, and some improvements can be made to get you closer to the Scud experience, at a fraction of the cost:
1) Fresh Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres with Scuderia alignment specs for sharper handling and steering feel
2) Exhaust Valve Remote for better sound under 4k rpms
3) Scud Inc F1 Relay for better shift quality
4) Fresh Acculmator and F1 Fluid change, also for improvement in shift quality
I haven't done it, but you can also remove the triangle shaped sound insulation in firewall bulkheads for more in-cabin engine noise like Scud
Note: getting a car with CCB will increase handling/suspension due to less unsprung weight over uneven road surfaces
If you really want to go hardcore, you could also add 430 challenge engine mounts and lower car on stock suspension, but I'm happy with my more road biased set-up
Really enjoy watching your reviews, if I’m looking for car reviews i immediately look at top gear/ fifth gear, and then yourself.. then check to see if Chris Harris has done a review.. you are excellent at this, show true passion for motoring which is what a lot lack, IMO. Like some feel like there reading off a script! Some awesome cars you’ve done, I can’t believe that bill! That’s insane! Thanks for the entertainment!
Have you seen savage geese, love the detail in theirs, love jay-emm to for the honesty and the real work cars he drives/reviews
This was like an episode of Hoovies Garage.

Excellent video! I've had my F430 spider for about 9 months now and i absolutely love the car, but the maintenance costs are draining me and i can't keep up😢
What did you have to do?
@Patryk Kaziow one of the 5 hoses that control the F1 gearbox went out and the hoses are $1200 each without labor and you have to replace all 5. I also just hit a large puddle of water that completely ripped off the bumper and diffuser. A new bumper is $12,000 without labor plus the cost of a diffuser

Ouch, I feel your pain! Far too often, it is necessary to sort out a batch of issues when you take on a new Ferrari. It seems there are plenty out there who move cars along once issues develop and independent dealers happy to let them do it - at top prices..

Hi, great video; you buy the car because it gives you great pleasure driving it & owing something special - ENJOY IT 😊
best thing ever was deciding to become a mechanic when I was 15.
The sound is just awesome. And who needs the 1000 horsepower of a SF90 if you get the drama of the 430 Scuderia.

Not worth it for me. It’s never done. It will continue to break over and over again.
And won't most shops just claim the clutch is a 'wear & tear' item, and blame the damage on you riding it too much?
I totally agree about buying what you love, investing in the experience and the ownership. If you win when you come to sell, good!
Amazing story, very well told. As for your mystery noise, look at the roll bar end links. You'd be amazed how they can cause noise to sound as though it is coming from another place in the car.
This is the best advert for Porsche ever made.
Whilst much was elective, I had a 355 for 4 years and drove it a lot. The average yearly costs on maintenance / paint (buttresses) … a stage 2 Capristo… were in excess of £8k. I could cope with that (just) but the intermittent issues with the engine eventually did it for me.
I had my F355 for a year, had a few issues, all fixed under Ferrari warranty. I sold it as soon as the warranty was due to expire. The fear was real
Good choice. That will hold its value well vs the F1 trashmission.
Welcome to Ferrari maintenance... Not to be confused with Lotus.
Great vid, James!! This is the truth behind running all supercars!!! ... You are right.. just drive it!! Work on bringing in 10x the running costs in monetary terms.. and you'll be laughing as well as smiling!!👍🙂

Well all know that Lamborghini dealership. They are renowned for what you experienced. Maybe you should do a video on your experience with them. It would be very interesting indeed
What's the name of the dealership?
Goes to show even getting a used vehicle from a dealer, an independent assessment is very important.
Sadly I've had them on other cars before and they've still not found everything. I am sure not all of the issues I had were there at the point of sale
I fixed broken rear light units as it was only cracked mountings on them that had failed. Fixed all 4 units on my friends 430 several years ago. Removed cleaned and rebonded back together.
That's the plan
A lot of money, but it could have been much worse. Age isn't friendly to supercars and bills are expensive. But what a glorious 430 Scuderia you have James.
Ouch! Porsche for the win!
Crikey that's eye watering!
Another quality video James. It’s wonderful to see your authenticity.
Great to see you have it back. 😃I figure feck it, if you can afford it and most of all enjoy it, then the costs involved end up being forgotten.
If you buy a car as special and beautiful as this and DON'T drive it then you dont deserve it either! These are cars that SHOULD be driven, it is their whole reason for existing. Agree 100% Jay!
This is a clear reason why a car remains a liability and not an investment, buy it to enjoy not as a hedge against inflation.
Like dating a super model but not have sex with her as they say,
The thing is the guy with the 348 is the typical Ferrari guy - he could have done 5x the miles, and spent the same in maintenance
@@JayEmmOnCars But then the values plummet. Apparently Ferraris are not actually meant for driving.
@@EvoraGT430 People don't like to admit it, but if your CONSTANTLY concerned about how everything that happens to the car will affect the resale value, then you CAN'T really afford the car...
Just buy a nice framed poster of the car and put your money into something that earns interest.
This is why I do my own work. Many of those parts can be found cheaper, and these cars are easily some of the most easy post 1980s cars to work on.
What a beautiful machine, glad to hear that you've spent the cash to create such a mint example.
This thing sounds unreal, the kind of sound that even after all the doubt. Makes you want to keep it
Auto gearboxes we’re never a thing I appreciated until I drove a friends 720s and I suddenly got it, a manual just isn’t quick enough to keep up and it was just too fast to think about changing gears with a stick.
I only recently found you - doing a vid on a E63 550i cab. Love your knowledge and down to earth presenting style. Consider me subbed! 👍🏻
Feeling ahead of time 😊
Easily achievable in this - lift and shift :)
Holy moly. Puts the 987/997 IMS issue into perspective.
Lucky you have lots of money. After your video, even if I had the money, I would not buy one. You have confirmed what I have been told numerous times. Expensive cars are mostly unreliable and expensive to fix. Enjoyed your frankness.
