- Here at Winding Road, we think there's a lot to like about the Mazda2.
"The Mazda2 fits like a glove! It feels great to drive that car after a longish break. It deals with the snow quite well, and tapping out snappy shifts is almost too much fun for such a humble vehicle. I like this one better every time I drive it." -JBS

Horsepower to weight ratio folks. This little car barely weighs in at 2,300 lbs. That's why the 100hp seems more like 130hp. I own a 2013 model with a standard shift and it is a blast to drive. In fact, it has the most fun to drive factor of any car in it's class. Mazda has been a master of putting the "Zoom Zoom" even into it's smallest economy car. Also, these little cars stick to twisty roads like glue thanks to the standard Yokohama tires. This is the ultimate city car and it beats every other model in it's class. Yes, that includes Honda and Toyota.
which is amazing cause the suspension set up is pretty standard for its class
Sadly its gone from USA for 2016
^Because of murica's body mass. On the other hand, it's popular in Asia.
These weigh 960kg in the UK so only about 2116 lbs
@@danbrookes2997 1030kg for the 1.5 5 door, take the spare wheel out and you're about bang on a tonne, it's brilliant
Amazing how good that engine sounds!
The Mazda 2 is basically a Mazda MX-5 Miata in a hatchback format.
Can't afford the new Mini? Get this instead.
it's engine sounds like mercedes engine
just curious, America didnt get the sedan version of the mazda 2? Hope you can answer 8 years from this comment.
FWD Miata :D
@@SataniaMcDowel really? Same chassis?
@@williamperri3437 no, completely different cars. but the mazda2 is so quirky to drive its one of the most engaging small cars of that era.
I own this car and it is more fun than words can express...gotta drive a 5 speed, see for yourself.
Love the zoom zoom sound of the engine! Awesome!!!
I always love coming on to the on-ramp on the interstate my my Mazda2.
I like it... It's not as big as the Honda Fit. but that can be easily overlooked...
It sounds like a toned-down little race car! I might have to check one of these out :)
looks bad ass with the red LEDS
Hey look!!! It’s winding roads first POV drive thumbnail
Neat little runabout. Fun and economical to drive. Looks good (except for that cjolor, of course). Cheap to buy. Lots of bang for the buck.
In 5th, 70 usually tops out around 3k-ish.
how do you guys do that slow panning motion? is it done pre or post production?
@trefod agreed! -CA
I own a 2011 Mazda 2 and its a real blast to drive did you try to see the top speed i tried it once and it went to 195 km
The engine sounds gutsy. You sure it's a 1.4 litre lol
That's awesome, that car has been converted to passenger drive.
That's cool.
@windingroadmagazine On the other hand 60 is just an arbitrary number. The gear shift also seems hampered by a slight unwillingness to loose rpm, but they can't all be hysterical race engines. All in all it is a nice car.
I like Mazda 2
I can get one of these or a Honda CRZ wirh similar miles and price, want one as a second car compared to my tundra. Thoughts?
I have a 2012 Mazda 2. I bought as a left over so I only have 47,000 miles but not one serious problem so far at all. If you have good tires the thing is awesome on the snow. I'd say get the Mazda 2 because it sits higher off the ground than Honda cars. You will find yourself sitting as high as some smaller SUV's. Plus you can change your oil without even jacking it up. I have been changing mine since day one with no jack. On the highway once you get going its great and handles nice. On the curvy roads and bends you will find yourself pulling ahead of other cars easily.
@trefod hahah, I was thinking the exact same thing while filming. I didn't try it, but if you're all about the numbers, it looks like there's a few more hundred rpms left before redline, if you pushed it to the rev limiter in 2nd it'd probably get past 60 for a faster 0-60 time. -CA
What were you using for the pov shot in car (helmet? go pro?)
Great video!
Are you running a factory exhaust system? Your car sounds awesome!
A good friend of mine just bought one of these in Aquatic Blue Mica with an automatic transmission. I love the way her's drives so much that I am thinking about buying one with a manual transmission myself, much like yours (same color and everything).
Mazda 2 is such a blast to drive!
my car as of wednesday afternoon
Beautiful car!
After 8yrs of this car is it still good to buy? Anyone?
I got Mazda 2 RZ 2013, and it's still awesome.....
Already 2022 and I’m still happy with mine.
if its not rusted away and you just want a car that drives very engaging without much gimmick and coasts, than its totally fine. as an alternative: a fiesta would be a bit more grown up and comfortable, while still beeing fun.
That was fast forward at 1:48 right?
Is it stock exhaust?
Para que son los botones de 0:52 debajo de la salida del A.A del lado izquierdo... alli en la pasta negra
good god....not even your lovely HD quality can make this car look good
That was one of the very best Top Gear reviews!
Uhhh, that was a painful shift just before 60. Makes you wonder how fast it would've been if it could have just hit 60 in second.
Isn't that mazda2 1.3 or 1.5 ?
Yep, the new GoPro Hero2.
How much HP?
190 hp
@@alansmilealot -.-
what da heck were u doing test driving that frog?
Basic done right
Do Mazda use ford engines ?
Forza223 Bowe They did!
This was a Mazda developed engine for the Mazda 2
It can’t be a Ford engine since my car never had a problem with the engine. That can’t be ford
they did before, but not anymore with this generation here in the video.
quiet start...
I have the 2013
Cmon, say something...
Similar to a Mitsubishi mirage
2900
B-r-r-r-r... ahtung... flay...
This is not a quick drive..
acroracing How?
Even though it's a motherf@cking UGLY car, I bought it.
