All the ‘71 Japan shows are exceptional. I think the best are 23 and 28. The soundboards from 28 and 29 allow one to composite a great soundboard album. Hope the rest of 28 and 29 see the light of day. 29’s Whole Lotta Love is maybe the best ever. Thanks for this great sounding 23.
When I hear this song I immediately remember little Yoyoka, the Japanese drummer that left Robert Plant astonished. She was only 7 years old when she covered this song. The fans call it "mini Bonzo" ... she loves Led Zepp and Bonham. I'm happy because they cross generations and cultures
Opening night in Japan 1971. Jimmy breaks his E string at the 3:00 mark, but carries on. Normally it would go straight into Heartbreaker, but they had to change the string which is amazing considering how big they were. Today they'd just change guitars in seconds. This is really one of the best versions of Immigrant Song they ever did. The final two nights in Osaka were recorded for a possible live album to be released in Japan back in the 70's, but the band took the tapes. These tapes still exist, so cross your fingers that we'll get at least the best of Osaka 1971. The two Tokyo shows were great too and also may have been recorded. Let's hope so.
Page holds tight on a crap ton of gig records and Tapes, literally. I'm pretty sure something will be leaked or even officially published in the aftermath of his last will. So far we have to be happy with everything his label shares to the public, and if it's the 100th remastered Studio record LP reissue.
My first hearing of the Immigrant Song solo was on John Peel's In Concert broadcast in April '71 which became the 2nd disc on BBC Sessions. Still have the cassette tape recording taken with a mono cassette recorder and not good quality but pure gold to me. Jimmy's solo on Immigrant Song took me by surprise and listened to it so often I had the entire solo memorized and would go through it in my head at random times. When BBC Sessions was released in '97 I was over the moon to be able to listen to it in stereo with such comparative clarity. Would like to ask Jimmy why no solo in the III album recording.
Great Immigrant Solos - BBC Recordings (so melodic), Osaka 9/29/71 (wah solo), New York 9/19/70, Blueberry Hill, Orlando 71. Probably many more but differing recording quality on the bootlegs. Another solo I search for to determine whether Page was “on” - Heartbreaker second solo. Osaka 71 blows my mind
definitive version! Bonzo was a monster on drum, jones ruled in the bass, robert hitting soo powerful high notes and jimmy rape the guitar in this marvellous solo!
He definitely is sloppy on many occasions. But in a way that's supporting is unique style, his brand mark so to say. It suits to the songs mood, musical atmosphere and his image of a guitar master. He loved the show, to be the middle point of the whole arrangement. Prior to the forming of Zeppelin, he used to work as a studio guitarist and was well known in the music business of London for his on point work.
@@the_rover1 Well said. If you listen to White Summer in the RAH concert he is very sloppy but very experimental. You have to respect that. Not many guitarists experiment live the way he did in that performance. He kept expanding as the song went on. I don't he even knew where he was going as he was playing.
No please , I love Thor and Zeppelin . Immigrant song is the one song that truly represents and defines who Zeppelin is. Zeppelin literally conguered the west . Modern day vikings , pillaging , taking no prisoners , kicking ass . Hey , have a 👍🙂 day.
I think Percy is referring to tax issues and the bad press, The Rolling Stone, etc. You know, Zeppelin had a tough banter going on with the music press on and on. I read 'The Hammer Of The Gods' by Steven Davis years ago, there was mentioned something like that. The US gigs were immediately sold out, but Zeppelin received bad reports in the press. This went so far that Zeppelin refused to give interviews to the reporters and them on the other hand not writing any stuff that's related to the band, except rumours, excesses and scandals.
@querfox Thank you so much for your awesome comment! Love it. That´s right, they really were on fire that night. They inserted that lil Japan Tour (five stops total) after a 23- stop US Tour. Four days break only between both tours. Where did they take that enormous energy I wonder Btw- did you notice Jimmy broke a string during that outstanding marvellous solo? Honestly, I did not til I read it somewhere...interesting. Goes on like nothing had happened. Already listened to Heartbreaker?
JIMMY'S IS ON THE ..BALL. SO WAS THE WHOLE. BAND. WATCH LIVE AID 1985 WITH PHIL COLLINS. JIMMY WAS OFF. HIS FACE. THE VOICE OF. ROBERT PLANT. WASN'T AS GOOD WHILE JOHN PAUL JONES. THERE LAUGHING AND HAVING A GOOD TIME. SEEING JIMMY. . IT WAS A GET TOGETHER. NOT ZEPPELIN' BAND. AFTER BOHNAM DIED ZEP WAS NO MORE BUT A MEMORIE. CHEERS.
When the song actually started … that PUNCH IN … I literally said out loud “Holy shit”. Rock and Roll is great but as Bruce Springsteen says it’s “1+1=3” and if you know … you know 😉
Holy sht. One of the best live versions ive ever heard.
One of the greatest metal tunes ever. Ever.
"BEST BAND EVER "

2 years later, both Osaka nights soundboards have surfaced. Cheers!

Wowww ,Robert kills it with his amazing voice,Bonzo smashes the hell out and Jimmy is Fantastic!
Dont forget john paul jones bro
@@victorrendon427 yeah he s great too

This song is so much better live
It's a completely different song!
Almost every Zep song is much better live. What is and what should never be is on my list
Superb. Best Immigrant Song solo I've heard Jimmy play and I've listened to a lot of them looking for the best.
The famous LA version has a more solid and cohesive solo

2:20 この曲でギターソロを弾くとは知らなかっただろう、
当時の日本の客の歓声が印象的。
Japan hosted sooo many American and British rock concerts, for decades! I'm envious.:d
Wonder if Plant knew that his opening wail on this song would become iconic?
ofc he knew
The live versions are a whole new level, love the interlude and solo at 2:20
自分が生まれる30年前にこんなすごいライブが日本であったなんて…
まあ生まれてなければ行けるわけもない…残念

"America still doesn't seem to be doing good anymore"...your ass!!!
it was a joke '-.-
Don’t think it was a joke as this was during the Vietnam war, which as you know made made America look very very bad.
Do you think killing 2 million Vietnamese mostly civilians made America look bad? :)
