USA has no one to blame other than themself for India to align with Soviet Union. If USA had not supplied weapons to Pakistan, India would have remained neutral. USA is responsible for starting arms race in South Asia.

Actually the US wanted India to join with them. It is India that said that they were going to be non-aligned. It is then that Pakistan was invited to be a part of CENTO and SEATO.
The centrality of non-alignment was the reason that Pakistan was accepted. Remember it was the days of the ‘cold war’, iron curtain etc.

India is too complex for even western pundits. They think that caste system and federalism are holding back India. Until the British pauperized the country, India had accounted for 23% of world's GDP, even with the caste system. I am no apologist for the caste system, but it annoys me to see the westerners coming up with simplistic explanations.

Absolutely correct. They are so many poor people I have asked about if they ever faced or seen caste discrimination in India working in any office or even in temples, no one has every said yes. Caste discrimination is a product of illiteracy and too much power with rural landlords etc. In cities it has become more like economic discrimination and not caste based. My dad's office senior is from SC community (so called lower caste) and so many people in my college and even office have come from SC/ST backgrounds, but now with good education they are a part of the society and enjoy life with no such discrimination. For Americans who comment on Indian caste system, has racism completely finished in your so called first world rich, educated and powerful country???

It's actually not a correct deduction
23 percent was prior to industrial revolution.
European nations which were industrialized in the 1800s could produce valuable goods in a shorter time frame and thereby increasing their domestic product whereas India remained largely agrarian so it quite natural that we accounted only about 3 percentage of world GDP in 1947.

While European neighbours have fought with each other virtually every decade during this period. China and India are both cultural states and the day they resolve there border dispute they will form a NATO like alliance under BRICKS and give the west the run for there money in 21st century. Its an insecurity being shown by USA to India for China has developed itself so far. USA had restricted India's development in various way in the technological world over the years. USA had developed China by exploiting its cheap labour and cheap manufacturing. But now its changing. China's labour costs are going high. China is focusing more concentrating its manufacturing industry for its own development and consumption thus its making USA insecure for race in technology and superiority with China and now trying to connect itself with India in better way to control china. If USA could it would try bring Xi's government through its resource.

IT IS difficult to see India and US ever getting too close. Americans seem to have a low opinion of India. They refer to this part of country (where India is) disparagingly as the "third world".
Of course India was not always this poor. If you read Angus Maddison's research on GDP of nations forpast 1000 years which consistently shows China and India as the top 2 world economies (in that order mostly) up until 18th century when China was brutalized by opium wars and India was colonized.
Both India and China are great civilizations that will gain their rightful place in the world. These are reemerging market. China is already on way to becoming a super power seriously challenging US hegemony.

This is such an American analysis :)…..interesting in parts but extremely limited in scope due to their own assumptions and hero complex.Though much better than many others I have seen over time. One important part they almost always miss is that the reason India does not appear agreeable to the US at times is because they are not a country with vested interests(territorial expansion, religious expansion etc) which they are trying to manifest through US help. This is due to their own deep rooted philosophical history. So they are looking more for equal partnerships with countries that can enable even growth on both sides. And US has never understood this independence nor do they understand the Indian ethos, either political or social.

These are interesting insights coming from US scholars. One must understand that territorial expansion is the core of Chinese leadership’s existence. A country that suppresses its own people’s voice (and history of revolutions) will always have an easy route to development. In India, unlike China, you can’t iron off the wrinkles so easy, or create a super highway to development in super short time. People’s interests go hand in hand with development. If it’s not in the interest of the people, development may have to change route. Free media and free voice, free access to information lets the world see India and India the world. And it’s a beautiful thing. People in China will never get to know why India provides so much promise. Development isn’t always about skyscrapers and super highways.

Dalits and other lower caste folks still face difficulty. Just because a few people have managed to break free of the chains of casteism doesn't mean there is equality for all. The Indian population must truly do away with the caste system and then later on with the reservation system. However, I believe it is simply a matter of time.

India was ambitious ever since independence in 1947 the objective earlier was Distribution of Wealth where Profit and speed of growth was not a priority Capital investment was done by the Govt in Services and infrastructure so it copied the USSR role model and the 5 year plans for development moving from an Agarian economy to an Industrial Economy at this stage Pakistan clubbed itself with the US to use this Alliance in Thier India centric Enemy. Result 4 conflicts between both nations where Pakistan repetly lost & India restrained itself. From Britain to the USSR helped by rupee payment then to Isreal which complimented the Indian Economy the the US. India is very diffrent from Pakistan the latter is a consumer Economy while India has a manufacturing base. India is a Welfare State while Pakistan is a Security State. The Congress had a Socialist legacy and Narasimha Rao turned Indian orientation from Politics to Economy & Trade. Modi is a fierce Indian National Interest & is a Nationalist & Oriented to Industry Contemporary Technology which could be brought thru Defence Industry which prioritises Technology & alloys this to cascade to the other Industrial enviorment. He has combined the rich Public Sector Units with Private Corporate Industry combining High Capital Resources with Timeline & Economic viability & Efficency with Contemporary Technology from Overseas Specialists. With its manpower it neutralises PRC with the Asian Alliance making the US role easier. Provided the National Interest of both States compliment each other. India wants a diverse national supply rather than total dependence on the US since the US has a bad track record in the World. Just like the Evolution of Indian immigrant in the US he has a clear plan to do it domestically. The discussion is comprehensive & excellent. Thank you . Nathan Sekhar Sydney Australia. The people of US don't know of India because of the 'frog in the well' problem many US citizens suffer from! Their parochial minded public media is not any help either and keep the ignorant in perpetual ignorance. They should get out of the 'centre of the universe' feeling about themselves and look around the world to see what is really there on the planet. Oh, the people of this planet are not 'aliens' as their immigration department would want to classify us!! Casteism is no worse than the racism and the remnants of it in US! Sonia Gandhi's son, second most popular politician!? That is a joke! India adores ability and worships intelligence!!

Get Australia to sell uranium and guaran tee a steady supply of uranium to India. Combine this with extremely low interest rate loans. Let India reprocess the spent fuel and stop worrying about India making nuclear weapons. India has its own unsafeguarded uranium for nuclear weapons. This is the way to go if the world is serious about climate change and wants to stop it. There is simply no other way.period. One doesnt have to a rocket scientest to understand this. India is never going to sacrifice growth for climate change just as the world seems to be also doing.

Government figureheads are like correspondents, representatives and public speakers. They can recognize important issues. But belief should be in the right action of the maintenance of government services and processing. Balancing accounts. Communication. The ability to provide government benefits. The ability to maintain the country on both local and national levels. Believing in the right action of the flow of service over those who'd talk about these ideas.

US wants every country to caw tau bow to them. India under Narinder Modi will not bend to any country. We r now masters of our own destiny, other countries can walk beside us or not at all. The west has to learn that the do not still rule the world.

I was surprised when India had a frontier problem w / kina and...India calls together to help... USA and Russia. I was perplexed,... how come? Big India (a continent), doesn't know that USA and Russia are enemies? I was amazed about the lack of this elementary thing ???? India, a great country in A.T. (Computers and Software) to not know that??? It's not possible. This was a shame for India. On the other hand, I have a lot of empathy for the smart and peaceful big people...of India. I hoped that this was a wrong mistake, caused by the STRESS of the imminent conflict w/ Chinese enemy... in the Himalayas.

I'm just so fed up with this caste system bullshit. Americans must re-educate themselves about Asia and specifically India otherwise they would hv to lose their efforts aligning with India just like they lost face in Afghanistan.

  • @akritikapila6422
    @akritikapila6422 2 ปีที่แล้ว

USA aligns for short term gains like military access to Afghanistan etc etc and not for long term gains or principles. Had US been little farsighted they could have guessed, an Islamic State like Pak can never be a true friend of a Democracy specially against other Islamic groups.
India was forced to pick sides, but India always maintains a neutral stand and remains non aligned. In Indo Pak war we were pushed on side by UK and US and were helped by soviets. Still most Indians donot hold grudges. When US sanctioned us we developed our indigenous technologies and we are very thankful for that phase, cz that made us self reliant.

India is a great democracy, and we Chinese do not care for democracy; what is good for India is not anything that appeals to China, we do not want to be a clone of the west. If democracy so great why is India 5 times smaller than China ?

We do not compete with any other country, and do not have any hatred for any other country. We look more at humanity. This was the way of life that spread in Asia and Europe for thousands of years. Competition and hatred is created like religion to create division for their own power. We need to look to ourselves and the true ancient ideas, to create a safe society and to be more peaceful. India does not compete with China and admires it, but what we want is unity of humanity.
