  • "Xi Jinping feel he's ideologically aligned with Putin."
China and Russia may have a temperamental relationship over their borders but Xi Jinping feels he needs to create a "united front" with Putin in the "fight against Western Ideas", says The New York Times's Edward Wong.

China has a more realistic chance to get back outter Manchuria and Far East back than attempting to take Taiwan.
There is a reason why Germany couldn’t cross 5 miles of water with complete channel air.
China has spent years building buying expensive toys but with no combined arms training. The last war China fought was against Vietnam in 79
People need to understand what a nation wants and what it can do are not the same.

No one wants a war, but get your facts straight. The Taiwanese have never fought in a war period. The U.S. has not fought a naval war since WW2, where they had to drop nukes. The Ukraine war shows that the U.S. cannot sustain a war due to its limited industrial capacity. It needs a quick victory with overwhelming force, which it does and will not have while the balance of power shifts towards Mainland China's favor every day. Every day that passes is one where Mainland China gets stronger and Taiwan weaker. Every problem Mainland China supposedly has, Taiwan has the same problem only exponentially worse. Unlike the Ukrainians, the Taiwanese have much to lose in a war (unlike the Ukrainians, who are very poor, corrupt, and dysfunctional), and anyone who knows them knows that they cannot fight like dogs like the Ukrainians. I am hoping they will come to their senses and not be obliterated like the Ukrainians.

This is like two rival drug barons who very temporarily band together against the police, but are looking for the earliest opportunity to stab each other in the back.

That description is more than just a meme. poo-tin, when in charge of St. Petersburg in the late 1990s, was responsible for "seizing" the largest batch of drugs in the city's history - and then the confiscated substances vanished into the air (and obviously sold again). By coincidence poo-tin's henchemen had suddenly money to finance his rise to power. AMeanwhile, Xi Jinping will trade in anything shady if it can be profitable. Yes, they are two drug barons.

As an ethnic Hmong/Miao person and survivor of hundreds to thousands of years of Xia/Han genocidal warfare, this is one of the first Han persons to acknowledge China's genocidal, racist motivations in Taiwan, such also relates to Belt and Road initiative. ruassia is just as racist. It's funny how they are allies of convenience, but they will eventually turn on one another.

THe borderlands of China, including Taiwan were added at the same time other empires (British, etc,) were built - essentially a product of colonialism.

China is literally in the process of doing this themselves with Russia and India - without their permission might I add - and is, itself, technically an Empire at the moment. Imperialism, not colonialism.

Hugo - Fascinating - Please don't ever respond with "fascinating" and then immediately move on to some completely different question (or end the interview). It gives the impression that you aren't at all interested in the guest's explanations. Just say "thank you" or such. "Fascinating" means that you wish to learn more. If you say "fascinating" then forget time and dive deeper into the topic that is so fascinating. Please also pass this suggestion on to your colleagues. And thanks for the interview.

@@peace4myheart Thank. And to be honest I don't put too much into it.
But it tears my ears apart. And I believe as an experienced journalist he should know how it works. The more he expresses that what the guest just said was "interesting" or even "fascinating", the more we as the audience expect him to floow up on it, not forget about it and move on to something else.
Still it's probably just a habit - but a bad one. One that he as professional should lay off.
