Both are extraordinary attorneys, from what I have seen. Models of integrity, which cannot be said of the Fulton County DOJ.

This is a clear violation of the law. The Fulton county district attorney's office should be sanctioned and someone should lose their job. She is doing what courts have been doing to women for decades. Because Ashleigh Merchant is doing her job as an aggressive attorney she is being labeled as difficult.

The judge knew what she was going to rule the way that she did, but she had to put some mess with it because this is shown to the world, and she probably knew the Merchant Law group would appeal. I am telling you that all of these judges, lawyers, Fanny group, and etc. all work together, and it is not good. They need to all do their jobs quickly, efficiently without regard to whom is asking for what. If they cant do that, then lawsuits need to ensue and for sure the DAs office needs to be held to account.
I watched this whole thing & I'm happy with the way it went (overall). And to be clear 13 requests is NOT too much.

She was surprising deferrential to the argument that the Merchant's had ulterior motives. Access to public records should be the same regardless of the motive of the requestor except for very specific cases, and "public embarrassment" is not one of them.
And the DA knows this because they tried to half assed respond because they knew they couldn't legitimately deny the request. It's not just incompetence, it's malicious. And they hoped to excuse themselves because of all the media hoopla.
It's a conscious attempt to subvert the law.

I haven't followed this case closely, but I can tell you in Missouri that we had a court rule a few years ago that a custodian that refused to comply with our open records law because they argued that a subpoena should be used instead (as part of a pending suit) was a willful refusal. This was even true notwithstanding that the city attorney had advised the custodian to not supply the records.

Ashleigh Merchant is “difficult” for those who are used to getting away with bending or braking the law. I’ve watched her in many hearings, including the YSL hearing, where she brilliantly defended a lawyer who was unjustly being held in contempt. Maybe the Fulton County DA’s office should raise their standards in terms of training those who work in that very important office.
