Definitely recommend just going through your library. And if you like ebooks, download Libby. Sure, you may have a wait period for some books, but you aren’t paying for anything so it’s okay to wait for some things.

You may want to look into “dark academia.” I’m not sure if its actually a proper genre, but it sounds like something you might like, and its definitely the season for dark academia vibes

I desperately need to get my hands on Erin Morgenstern’s new book, the night circus is literally one of the best books I’ve ever read (so thank you for introducing me to it) because her writing is just pure magic 😍

I’m reading Ninth House too and I was wondering the same thing. A lot of people are giving it average rating and I’m thinking “are we reading the same book?”
I'm reading it now and honestly I think it's good but not great. That being said I read mostly adult lit and memoirs so this just reads a little young to me even with the heavier subject matter. I'm keeping g an open mind though because I'm only 100 pages in. Happy reading.
The Twisted Tales series seems like fanfiction come to life.
I think it’s interesting that Frozen is considered a “classic” fairy tale when it is a Disney original, based on the Snow Queen. So, it’s a twist on a pre-existing twist

this makes me wanna buy books or go to library, i’m just very busy with my baby brother and my school reading (which isn’t interesting) and my school notes/work. i love to read and when i get into a book i won’t set it down. that’s something most people don’t know about me because at school i’m so busy. i read a lot over the summer, about 9 books which is a lot for me because of my summer plans. i enjoy romance or horror/mystery and overall it just depends what books i’m reading (i’m picky when it comes to books, i have to like, even if it’s a new genre or a genre i like, if i don’t like it, it’s not gonna be read) any tips to read more if you’re super busy and can’t afford to buy books because of my dad’s hospital bills for his arm injury and him not being on a paid off and my brothers bills from his birth. i don’t enjoy online books or audiobooks because i like the tense and joy of reading it and flipping the page not knowing what will happen and online books strain my eyes:( i want to not stop reading

Meddling Kids by Edgar Cantero- it’s basically a loose retelling of the Scooby-Doo gang as a dark comedy. It’d REALLY good, a 5 star for sure. It’s very funny and has a very unique writing style and great characters.

I literally finished Serpent and Dove today and it’s amazing!!!! So so good!!! I hate that I have to wait till August next year for the sequel becoz it ended on such a cliff hanger🥺. But do not be deterred by that, it was absolutely incredible!

Hey, I’m reading spooky/scary books too! I just started Mr. Mercedes, Interview with a Vampire, Something Wicked This Way Comes, Anna Dressed in Blood, and finally Horns. I’ve been reading a lot of Joe Hill lately.
If We Were Villains was alright. I mean, it’s no Secret History but it was still a very fun read. I think Drama/theater students/fans would definitely enjoy it.

I want to like the Twisted Tales series SO BAD but I just never like them! But I keep reading them anyway because I *want* to like them so bad 😂😂 I am more of a “disney youtuber” so those books are some of the few book videos I’ve done on my channel
I've read If We Were Villains a couple weeks ago and I LOVED it, I couldn't but it down and finished it in a couple of hours. I'm 100% sure you're going to love it. Is definitely one of my favorite books of this year.

Since I've read If We Were Liars earlier this year (after seeing V.E. Schwab recommend it!!!) I am so excited whenever I see people picking it up! While I did guess who did it, the book was such a wild ride! I love the characters and I love the setting and the writing and the themes and ugh! More people...actually EVERYONE NEEDS TO READ THIS BOOK! IT'S SO GREAT!

Halloween 🎃😱🗡️ is my favorite holiday of the year. I just read the graphic novel that you and others have suggested "through the woods". I loved it it was my first graphic novel. I'm a little behind on some of the popular stuff so I'm still working my way through. I'm reading audiobook of "Sadie". Really good so far. I'm waiting for "slasher boys and monster girls". Going to read "the Wicked Deep, Raven, Ghostly and Now Entering Addamsville".

Currently reading The Starless Sea, and I'm LOVING IT 💕✨ I can't believe I wasn't planing on reading it because of my dissapointment with The Night Circus.
Just read "The Beautiful". Unfortunately I don't think it's the comeback you're wanting. It wasn't bad...but it wasn't great. I too and desperate for some good vampire books. Alas I'm still waiting.
If you like witch themed books, I’d definitely recommend How to Hang a Witch by Adrianna Mather.
I LOVE IF WE WERE VILLAINS AND I WILL STAN IT UNTIL I DIE. I think you will love it too!! I just want to give you a content warning for details pertaining to an eating disorder. It’s not super important to the plot and it’s literally in one chapter and not super specific but it surprised me and I just wanted you to know about it beforehand!
I'm currently reading The Shining for spooky vibes. I think I'm either gonna read Ninth House or The Diviners after that.
If you are looking for the creepy vampires, check out David Wellington, the Laura Caxton series. Those vampires are definitely not on the romantic side.
My most anticipated books for the rest of the year are Ninth House, which I’m going to get as a Christmas present (the Waterstones exclusive edition with the blue snake on the cover
I don’t know if you’re still in that vampire mood a year later and haven’t read it, but I highly recommend the Blood of Eden series by Julie Kagawa. It came out 2012/2013 and is a trilogy. I think it got overshadowed by Twilight and all the other ya vampire books that came out. But it’s nothing like Twilight. First book is The Immortal Cure.
Top two books I desperately want to read are Babel and a darker shade of magic but I have to finish my library books first 😅
I don’t know if you have read the lunar chronicles but if you haven’t I HIGHLY suggest it. It was the series that actually helped me get back into reading. It is INCREDIBLY well written and I cried when I finished it. Hopefully you will pick it up;)
Certain Dark Things by Silvia Moreno-Garcia might be right up your alley. It has dark vampires set in south America (Mexico I think?). I've heard amazing things and Moreno-Garcia has a wonderful writing style.
Also I second looking into "dark academia" as a genre or trope for you to look into. The Secret History and If We Were Villains both fall into that.
My two must reads by the end of the year are Circe and Our Bloody Pearl.
The two books I NEED to read are "The Secret Chapter" by Genevieve Cogman. It's become a November staple in my life to read the new one. And I am also so excited for "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" by Suzanne Collins. I forgot how much I missed The Hunger Games. It was the last time I truly enjoyed a dystopian novel and I want to go back to that world.
I'm definitely dying to have early copies of Wicked as you Wish by Rin Chupeco (bc Filipino folklore) and The Kingdom of Back by Marie Lu (bc I'm a Marie Lu trash) but being an int'l reader sucks. Just have to wait for its release dates soooon 💞
Here is a Quick Reccomendation it is Nyxia By Scott Reintgen (don't know if you already seen or Read it Before) it is a Scifi book! It has 3 Books currently (getting turned into a TV show) The book is Simply Amazing it rips your heart out and Tap Dances on it
I listened to the audiobook for If We Were Villains at the beginning of the month and absolutely loved it! I own Serpent & Dove, The Beautiful, and Ninth House and I’m hoping to get to them soon! I’m also interested in reading The Starless Sea because you talk so highly of Erin Morgenstern’s writing (I still really need to read The Night Circus as well🤭). The 2 books that I really need to get to though are Wayward Son and Call Down the Hawk! Those two are my most anticipated books of the year!

I kept putting down "The Ninth House" like 10 times before I finally decided to finish reading it. Personally, it took me almost 300 pages in to actually start enjoying the book.
I recently finished reading the English translation of Three Body Problem. I NEED to get my hands on the sequels right now!!
If you want a really good vampire novel that is More Serious Vampires that even has some academia involved, you really should check out The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova! It's one of my favorite books :)
