    Thank you Ryno,
    I have heard many people talk about landing with the gas on but nobody has actually shown the reason or body position statically.
    I see myself landing in the goonish position you display and making all the errors you make with the bad result.
    Thanks again I am going to start training the right way again with good physics.

      Here is a key reason to ALWAYS land hard on the gas. "Anti-Squat". The geometry of a MX bike is carefully designed so that when you are on the gas, the geometry and reactionary forces of the chain in tension causes the rear to extend, or get stiffer. Landing on the gas make the bike feel like the spring is way stiffer. If you OJ and land flat...you will blow through and the rebound will send you over the bars. Land hard on the gas...and the rear can take a much bigger hit smoothly.

    Ryan man: Back in 84, I practiced hole shots on a moist dirt road. I wanted to see what way of shifting was fastest, (gas pinned, no clutch, jam the next gear. I did not do that one because I was paying for the parts), (let off the gas a tad, hit the next gear with no clutch. Quickest for me.), (leave the gas wide open, fan the clutch and hit the next gear, speed shifting.). I found the 3rd to be the slowest, by looking at the longer coasting patch on the road between gears, and I always got good starts with the 2nd method, (had the shortest coasting patch between gears). But I hear some pros speed shifting today, and even MXA saying that is the fastest method. Funny, it was MXA in the 80's who said it was the slowest, and that is what I found with my testing too.

He is already good ofcourse but Oh damn with those Ryno Touches added to his skillset its gonna be super good for him. I hope Austin knee is good and I pray he can race all next SX season with no freak accidents like the one we saw right outta the gate. That was so fucked. I felt so bad for Austin that night. This is so important but the era i learned by watching an studying their body position only did drop off an ski jumps...no real double where u needed to be in the front ..i never thought about worrying about landing because u think i ll just keep it straight...but that never happens when u start going fast an racing...a small fall over on a jump i cleared an small tibia break in my leg...may be awake to landing skill of mine needed work....the most important part...is u realizing u need to change or improve...other wise ur just tourchering ur mx teacher...like ryan whos trying to save ur ass from dumb mistakes...hey those mistake happen so u will remember why change is needed...peace....thanks to Ryno...when u figure out the secret to landing on ur front wheel forward on the bike...it takes away fear an bring understanding to landing an doing new jumps...its magical actually...physics

    I have some doubt with jumps. I keep my legs locked/clamped on to the seat all the way up on the face of the jump.

    Ryan, how do you recommend taking big hits? I have always heard balls of feet riding, to which I felt like I was doing correctly. Unfortunately, I am now recovering from broken ankles after landing in a face. Was it probably due to poor rider position? Or do you shift anything around when you know you are about to hit a wall? I just recently heard to move to arches/heels to take big ones, but that goes against everything I've ever heard so I wanted to ask.

    • @ryancannon3110
      @ryancannon3110 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just FYI, the break was from over extension of the ankles and smashing the bones together on top of foot and bottom of leg bone

    • @brianricoh3242
      @brianricoh3242 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree balls of the feet much as possible, but when it comes down to it on a huge bottoming type hit, the arches will take more than your ankles can absorb. Just like you mention.

    • @brianricoh3242
      @brianricoh3242 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think its because the arches transfer straight into the leg bone which is stronger. I tweak my right ankle all the time, bottoming on the balls of my feet, could be boot impingement in that area also.
      but I do have issue with the right ankle, right at the top and off to the side, but I other wise have good ankle flex, so its weird.
      this on different boots also, maybe they boots create an impingement in that area of the ankle, with alot of pressure and load flex.
      But yeah, once the ankle is tweaked I have to arch it.
