Gulf of Mexico Red Snapper and Kingfish Fishing- Smith and Son's Charters- Bluefin July 2023

- This was day one part one of a 36 hour snapper, tuna and deep drop safari with Captain Matt of Smith and Son's Charters on the Bluefin! What an epic trip. The first series of stops, we drifted for kingfish by freelining sardines. The boat landed red snapper, mangrove snapper, kingfish and mahi mahi. I used a 3 hook commercial kingfish rig, then a regular wire leader to land 2 red snapper, a mangrove snapper and a mahi. Other anglers caught kingfish and some really big sharks. Porpoise were around and stayed closer to the boat pushing the kings further out at some points in the trip. This was just the start of an epic fishing adventure!

It’s such an awesome experience! First the boat has so much room and second Matt gets to do cool stuff! Kings, reds, tuna, tilefish, we even dropped for a swordfish. Was awesome!
I worked on that boat about 20 years ago when it was a captain elliots boat outta freeport. Capt Elliotts isnt there anymore. I was wondering what happened to those boats. Cool Matt got the Bluefin. It was a hell of a boat
I really liked the boat. The weather was perfect so it was a smooth trip. Lot's of rod storage and plenty of room to fish 10 people!
@@ThumpemupFishingchannel Yeah that boat was made to be fished hard. I miss those days. I still commercial fish but it was just something about the late 90s and early 2000s that bring back feeling of nostalgia
Hi Eric, Jason from DFW here. My friends and I were wanting to ask: What’s something you would say or give advice to anyone that is just starting to fish? Whether if they want to do it casually or strive to be compete in it one day.
Hey Jason, fishing is not a one size fits all sport, there are as many ways to fish as there are fish! Beginner’s will have a dinner experience pursuing fish that are easier and more plentiful to catch (e.g. trout or sandbass vs largemouth). Keep it simple and fun first then expand out to more complicated species and techniques. Many fisher people are more than willing to help out new anglers so don’t be afraid to ask for help!
What is a good brand of braid For offshore fishing
I like Tuf-line indicator braid for jigging and depth control. I use 65lb test. For casting I like Seaguar threadlock in 50lb.
