I was one of the original backers of "What we left behind" on Kickstarter, I've never been more glad of something I backed on Kickstarter, it truly was a love letter to DS9.
This comment made me search out and watch "What We Left Behind" and you're right; it's remarkably nostalgic and entertaining. I even got a little choked up over Jadzia.
5:09 even hearing the story years later makes me tear up. "Scotty" reached out to that fan, kept in contact with her & she later became a engineer because of that.... God I love Star Trek 😭😭
@@thomasnieswandt8805 I remember Nichelle Nichols story. I would so love for that story to repeat itself, but if it hasn't it because we made some progress. I'll search for the Scotty one in a few..thanks🙏🏾
The Making of Star Trek, by the late Stephen E. Whitfield, has to be on the list. I've read both the original and the 25th anniversary edition. I prefer the former; it's a little more, um, colorful.
What We Left Behind is currently available for free on Tubi in North America. This video prompted me to search in various streaming services, and I was so happy to find that movie which I've always wanted to watch. It's great!
Just recently watched Trekkies and i think it is a awesome look at how Trek fans were in the 90s and it was great to see interviews from the the TOS actors who have since passed ...
This video made me find/watch Trek Nation. Roddenberry's kid was the same age when his dad died as I was when mine died, so I totally understood that feeling like "why didn't I care more?" But most people at 17 are naturally a little stupid. Almost everybody at that age thinks they have all the time in the world, and the least interesting thing is what your dad does for a living.
I vaguely remember an interview with some of the cast of ST:TMP from back in the day. When asked about where the restrooms were, someone suggested that they didn't need them. They just carefully applied a phaser blast to dispose of any waste.
I lower my head in shame I did not know about most of them, THANKS for sharing with us the fans of TrekCulture. may the sun shine down on you and the wind blow you in the right direction in life Sean.
I know it’s been superseded by so many more, but I still have fond memories of the tv special “Leonard Nimoy: Star Trek Memories” that was shown in 1984. To be honest I had to look it up on IMDB for the title but the content remains in the memory. It was the first time I’d heard the story as to where the Vulcan hand gesture came from. All the stories will be well known now, but it was probably the first time a lot of them were aired in that way. It was gentle, and not the slightest bit contentious, but that was fine with me at the time.
You probably missed it because its recent but you should have definitely included Woman in Motion. It's a great documentary about Nichelle Nichols and her work with NASA.
I love you guys, but you’ve really gotta start pronouncing George Takei’s name correctly. Japanese words and names are spelled phonetically, it shouldn’t be hard to forget. It’s Takei, not Takai.
I love Star Trek so fucking much. For me it's the idea that humanity will one day unite and work for the common good and come to embody all the best qualities and principles. Ultimately it gives me hope for the future of our species.
Thanks, you all I have 8 of those and see them all! I am highly anticipating the Voyager Documentary AND Imagine those future Documentaries of the Current Trek series and projects!
Trek Nation is a great doc showing a little bit of Rod Roddenberry’s view of Star Trek and his relationship with his father. The Captains is great because it has the interview with Avery Brooks who has pretty much retired from talking about trek. What we live behind is an awesome I haven’t seen some of these docs so thanks for mentioning them. I will seek them out. Thanks!
I've only seen one of these documentaries (The Captains) Does that make me a bad Trekkie...? Of course, I've seen all the TrekCulture documentaries... And I do really want to watch What We Left Behind.
There was a trek documentary that was shown only once right before they showed the original pilot episode . The episode was part color and part black and white but was a blast for this fan . It was shown in a very small theater in San Antonio right before the voyage home was released. As for trek conventions I can say I went to 5 or 6 when I was a kid and they where a blast . I got to meet most of the original cast and some of the next generation cast .
Both William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy did "Star Trek Memories" documentaries. Also "Trekkies" has a personal connection: the Shopping Mall featured in the film was from our city!
Trekkies 2 is special to me because it contains a small segment about the Brazilian fandom (you know, that one on the USS Sao Paulo plate). In this segment is shown the a bit about the franchise books being translated (in special the Klingon dictionary) in a small interview with the publisher editor in chief. A few years later I had that guy as a physics teacher for a while, it was both great and weird being a young fan and having classes with someone like that.
I briefly knew Gabriel (about 1-2 years) during this time in a monthly fan club we were both in: Nemesis Station (affiliated with the UFPI and RSE Inc organizations). When I left Bakersfield, lost touch with everyone. Never watched Enterprise, so I wasn’t aware he got to work on that show. They briefly pan the club meeting during Trekkies and I am listed in the credits (though I consider myself a more casual fan compared to my then club mates). Anyways, glad he got to work on a ST show.
I'd wish there would be a new Star Trek Series in the main timeline (Roddenberrys vision) with the events between Enterprise B and D. George Takei didn't really aged, he could easily have a role as admiral in the series (after his days as Captain of the Enterprise B). With the fragile peace treaty with the Klingkons and the sneeky attacks of the Romulans it would make a great story.
Maybe this has been asked before, but can anybody tell me, if there is any way to watch/buy/order/stream the "What we left behind" documentary in Germany? The documentary is not new anymore and untill now I have found absolutely no way to watch it here. Thanks!
Hello you missed a documentary is would put it number 1 or 2. When Whoopi Goldberg's interviews William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, Patrick Stewart and Jonathan Frakes. Whoopi does a spectacular interviews a 5 performers on Stage. Circa aprox 2014 or 2015
The first "Trekkies" did an intentionally poor job trying to show off the diverse crowd that makes up the entire Star Trek fan base, they went for the easy marks, people who were obviously mentally ill in some capacity and played that off as "Star Trek fans in a nutshell". As if it wasn't already miserable being known as a "Star Trek nerd" in the 90's, that documentary didn't make things easier for any of us.
I Gotta kinda agree with you on this I saw both Loved both Gowever your right the documentry did kinda make Trek fans look like obsessive mental paitients that arent quite intouch with reality especilly that girl that wore her uniform to court She wears it to work Carries a phazer as if its a functional side arm I mean Hell even the crew of the enterprise knows to dress appropiatley to blend into primitive society hiding rank insignia etc. It was VERY cringy at parts And ALMOST made me ashamed to be a trekkie

I didn't have the opportunity to catch the Kickstarter when it was live, but I did pay for a ticket to go to a Fathom Event screening of it
What We Left Behind was simply fantastic, I loved every second.
This comment made me search out and watch "What We Left Behind" and you're right; it's remarkably nostalgic and entertaining. I even got a little choked up over Jadzia.
Mind Meld from 2001 was a wonderful doc. Just Shatner and Nimoy sitting down and essentially interviewing each other about all things Trek and beyond.
For the Love of Spock is one of the few times I can recall Shatner ever being truly genuine and emotionally vulnerable.
5:09 even hearing the story years later makes me tear up.
"Scotty" reached out to that fan, kept in contact with her & she later became a engineer because of that....
God I love Star Trek 😭😭
search for it, its on YT very touching. Also Nichelle Nicols, talking about how she quit season two and Martin Luther King telling her not to quit

How about a list of the 10 best books about Star Trek? (Or maybe that should be the 100 best books?)
has Peter David written 100 Star Trek books??
The DS9 Companion is one of the best.
The Making of Star Trek, by the late Stephen E. Whitfield, has to be on the list. I've read both the original and the 25th anniversary edition. I prefer the former; it's a little more, um, colorful.
I watched What We Left Behind not long after rewatching the entire series. It was the most beautifully done Trek tribute I had ever seen.
I am so EXCITED for the Voyager documentary. It is my fave Trek. Thanks so much for making this video. Love your channel!!
I would say that missing here are the retrospectives being done now on TH-cam by Rowan Coleman, truly high class stuff
all his stuff is good!
I wish you'd included an idea where/if they're available online to watch
That would be difficult as each country has different licenses with each streaming provider.

Trek Nation used to be available on Curiosity Stream :(

What We Left Behind was so wonderful, only missing an appearance from Avery Brooks. It was a joy to watch for diehard fans of the best Trek series

What about "How Star Trek Changed The World" its one of my favorite documentaries about Trek. :(
I'm kinda craving the 10 best Trek parodies. Awesome moments like the time Kate Mulgrew teamed up with the cast of Frasier for a little fun.
That was great!
for the Love of Spock was so moving

I like the 40th Anniversary special "Beyond The Final Frontier" which showed the ship models and props during the auction in 2006.
I absolutely agree with the number 1 spot, but The Truth is in the Stars is also another good one to check out
I lower my head in shame I did not know about most of them, THANKS for sharing with us the fans of TrekCulture. may the sun shine down on you and the wind blow you in the right direction in life Sean.

A must watch is the deleted scenes in Trekkies 2 , i think its actually holds up better then the film itself and has some pretty interesting clips ..

I'd think "Inside Star Trek" hosted by Herb Solow, would merit an honorable mention.
Those were awesome docs. I must give the final one a watch. I see it's on Netflix. So live long and prosper.
Wait Voyager is getting it's own "What We Left Behind" type documentary? Fascinating.
The Toys That Made Us is not specifically a Star Trek documentary. However the Star Trek episode is pretty good, so are the rest of them.
I was thinking Adam Nimoy should play Sybok
Nice one
I should not be so emotional watching this video
What about "Galaxy Quest" - the best Star Trek documentry ever!!

Star Trek doesn't have bathrooms, they use the Transporter to clean out their bowels and bladder automatically. Or was that the Harry Potter Universe?
