    Despite my research, the thing that didn't truly stand out to me is that there are two types of colonies needed to complete the cycle. The ones that converts ammonia to nitrite, and the one that converts nitrite into nitrate. I am glad that this video covers that and WISH I had known this video existed a year ago!

    Hmm good simple video but since this video is for beginners, you should also mention that, those tanks which only rely on plants and exclude filters are quite big and house very small fish(very very small bioload). And not all fishes are compatible with a planted aquarium.

    • @GirlTalksFish
      @GirlTalksFish  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very true! Live plants probably won't be as helpful if you have a huge bioload in a tiny tank.

      Great question! So I've never dealt with them in my main tanks (killed them off when quarantining my plants - see my video on plant dips for snails) . However, I've heard L.R.Bretz Aquatics and several other FishTubers deal with them using fenbendazole (common dog dewormer). There are also treatments on the market called No Planaria and Planaria Zero. I haven't used any of the chemicals, so definitely do your research first before deciding to use them. Good luck to ya!

    So I think what happens is in their race to be more informative than the last person, some TH-camrs make things sound and seam more complicated than it really is.
    I had been away from the hobby for forty years. I started watching a lot of TH-cam to update myself on new tech, equipment, fish etc.
    A few videos in I was getting totally bogged down with explanations upon explanation, pH, TDs, KH, etc.
    Pretty soon I'm thinking, why would anyone start into this hobby without a PhD in biology?
    I'm not saying it was bad information at all, just more involved than it needs to be.
    My fix for this was to follow a limited number of people and stick to their information until I had regained some experience.
    I follow Cory quite a bit, but I am a diabetic and his nitrogen cycle demo scared me so I changed from M&M's to multigrain snacks!😁
    Jason is an amazing guy but you can tell he is a prof. I was horrible in science so I depend on Jason for other fish facts. I love his work.
    A couple more that I follow keep me focused, but honestly I try to watch a little of everyone's work. I put out one terrible TH-cam video a few days ago to try it out so I start to get a feel for how much effort you folks put into yours.
    I have done television before but it was scripted. Guppies are illiterate, no help at all! Illiterate and focused on breeding! Good God I grew up with friends like that!!
    I enjoy your direct approach to your topic, I have subscribed and while I may never make it to an American event, I will be learning whatever I can from those I follow.
    Getting back into this has me rethinking fish and chips!....sigh

    I tested my water and my nitrate is at 0 ppm is that weird. I have lots of live plants

    • @GirlTalksFish
      @GirlTalksFish  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not necessarily. :) I know a lot of people say that 0 ppm nitrates means that your tank isn't cycled, but I have a tank that's been running for many months with fast growing plants, very low bioload (cherry shrimp), and weekly water changes. And yes, I usually only see very low nitrates around 0-5 ppm. I may need to increase fertilization if the plants are suffering, but so far they're still green and growing!

One employee told me 3 bottle caps of Prime for 10 gallon lower down ammonia, nitrite and nitrate up every day for week no water changes. Both aquarium did not fish, ammonia or fish food started with he said was not not needed. He said my aquarium is now set for fish, so I purchased from he 2 Cory fish died in two days. Started again with Ammonia, nitrite and nitrate at down 0 purchased again 1 female and 1 Cory, Cory died in 12 hours but female betta is still here

    Fish also releases ammonia through their gills. Maybe it's similar to peeing. That's why fishes still get ammonia poisoning in fish bag even though there's very little poop. I've killed a lot of fish for not knowing about nitrogen cycle in my early years of fish keeping :(
