Good information in the video. You can even back up the settings. Or you can make a backup of the card and just keep it as a file on your computer until you need it.

I remember when my hotspot changed like this. All the DMR plus in the list are just DMR systems around the world stuff that has been added. When you do an upgrade or update it updates the host files. Which are basically IP numbers. And I intend to explore what they can do.

Digital Analog Ham, you confirmed what I suspected. Since NO ONE else ever touches my computer / hotspot / HT, I presumed this had to be associated with an update. What confused me was, all was well after my last update a few months ago, then I went silent on DMR working on some HF projects, then when I power up, crickets! Glad there are people smarter than me out there to get me back on line!

@@HOAHamRadio yes with the combination of that and adding the password into the appropriate section. Your advice is very good. I must have made 20 hotspots in the past. Either for me or somebody else or just experimenting. And I never made one for a year because they were so reliable. But I still have to think and got stuck the first one I did again for awhile.

Hello. I watched your original vid and took the advice and cloned a backup card. Who wants to start from scratch with Pi-Star (as much as we love it) when you can just pop in a new card ? One habit I have adopted is to check for updates each weekend and make sure both cards are up to date.
I appreciate your videos and calm rational demeanor. 73

Thanks for the positive feedback. I still have people comment to back up to my computer, but like you, when the pi-star goes down I want to be able to get back on line immediately.
I also take the hot-spot with me when I travel, so the spare card is a life saver when I'm on the road.

Make sure you use a high endurance micro SD card, this will increase the lifespan many times over. Don't use a normal write rated SD card like the Sandisk shown. With the amount of writing to the card the PI will do, it will cause a cell to fail which can corrupt the operating system and you will see strange things like you experienced. The high endurance cards will increase the life many times more. Remember that with flash memory (any flash memory like SD cards, SSDs etc) there are only a finite number of write cycles to each memory cell and it will fail over time if its written to over and over. Most people will never experience that as they don't write enough to flash. This is a major difference between enterprise/data center SSD's vs consumer SSDs for example is write endurance.

Thanks for that insight. Since the whole world has access to Amazon, is there one on their website you would recommend?
