As a gmrs newbie, is the antenna connector on the RA86 pretty standard? and how small of a hole can the included antenna connector pass through?

Yes the bag is no good. I also have the full antenna kit which I like but bag tore apart within couple months and couldn't get another 1. So it fits in a harbor freight go box. Great video. Kg7fxn

I just ordered 2 Zachtek transmitters so I can run comparisons on my balcony at 15 ft above ground. Do you have to worry about the two transmitters affecting each other? Are the transmissions staggered? TNX 73

A bud of mine came to my shop asking about how to have a retractable antenna for his station He lived in a hotsy totsy HOA well his house has this glass on 3 sides thing that is 8X8 square and a open top on the front of his house It has a yard art inside of it . I looked at some retracting poles like they use on TV remote trucks and came up with one that uses compressed air to raise using aluminum tubing machined rings and a half dozen seals from hubs of different sizes we got a bit under 50 feet of pole he runs a .94 wave Dominator like I do for my hobby broadcasting . at night he airs it up and when done just cuts off the air its completely visible in the glass area but the HOA cant do a thing he says it's a art piece ! I am glad I live on 300 acres out in the country on a tall hill and have my HDBX 95 for my radios and microwave link for the local WISP that runs airfiber !

Quick reminder - The CHA URT1 cannot have any switches in line between the radio and the tuner because of the BIAS-T is feeding the coax to activate the tuner.

No offense, but I think you messed up mounting your box down low as you did. Your wire is coming across your sidewalk too low. Why didnt you mount it up high like at the top of the windows to get it above head height?

Im sorry if this is a dumb question. Are your contacts phone, or what are you using to collect your data? I am very new to HF and looking at options for antennas. I plan on sticking with SSB phone for now.

Great post, Bob! I own an MFJ remote tuner. I bought it for a purpose that was never realized and so it's just sat unused when it could have provided me an effective stealth antenna. Boy, do I feel dumb! At least now I can get to work.

The Desco ring terminals are available on Amazon now, but they're asking almost $10 each. Global's price is about the best I've seen for that part. I went with a cheaper alternative to experiment with, and found that ring terminals for 8 gauge wire will fit banana plugs. I can get those locally although they're soft copper and won't take much abuse. I even found a size to fit a 1/2 inch stud, which fits perfectly under the insulating washer of the antenna mount at 3:09. What I need now is an adapter to mate a JPC-12 (M10 female) antenna to the 3/8-24 female hardware on that mount. The JPC-12 has its own ground spike but I want to experiment with the antenna mount on top of a 3' aluminum tube.

I received my CHA SS25 several weeks ago but finally got the opportunity to use it today 9/8. As I was extending the antenna section 3 pulled completely out of section 4. When I inspected the antenna I discovered where section 4 is crimped to hold in section 3 it was split, so section 3 would collapse back down. I'm hoping that Chameleon will just replace the antenna. I have the SS17 and it has worked flawlessly so imagine my disappointment with the SS25 not holding up. Now the challenge is getting in touch with Chameleon.

Could not get a decent swr from the stinger setup. It was 2. or just under or over most bands over 20 except 18 where it was decent. 40 was useless well over 3. Even with the tuner it only got 20m got around 1.2 For me as a portable qrper I don't like these high numbers and being so inefficient. I add one counterpoise and I got decent swr... like I would if I just attached a counterpoise. Not sure if this thing is even electrically connected. Don't see how its not but it didn't do anything. You did not mention the screw in the middle you need to adjust to get things to mount on the top of the hub. This concerned me because to get my mpas 2 in there it needed to go down quite a bit...wish they would give some better indication of how much thread you need to leave out. If you are not careful you could have very little thread holding this thing together. Sorry but this is a pain to setup and take down and then store. It also doesn't fit in any of their bags...I have both of them. So portable its not, more like luggable with eye pokers. Much easier to bring four radial wires and be done. I see the reviews on the web site are positive and sure you are doing fine with it so I must have missed something. Just really surprised that just adding the counterpoise means that electrically those stingers should be connected, its the same piece of medal. Very confused right now. Next time I may just try the antenna with no counterpoise or stinger and see what swr I get. Do like the quick release idea...I am going to cross thread this one day if not careful.

Bob, one of your best analytical videos. I'm pretty much sold on Chameleon antennas. My QTH is very noisy and I need a quiet antenna. It's my understanding that Delta Loops are inherently quiet. Have you found that to be true.?

I just got my tech and general license. I only have a HT right now. I see many people recommend the RT-95 as a good first radio on a budget. This looks to be able to do everything the RT-95 can do while adding DMR and digital for about 80 more dollars. What would you think about this as a first radio? I live not to far from you. Good to see a local TH-camr!
