Yes, Vivek has got it right. As an immigrant, to assimilate to a different culture takes time, measured in generations. 1st generation immigrants will be still very rooted in their homeland customs, traditions, language and ties while their children or grandchildren will have a much easier time as they mix around more with locals in everyday life and are not affected that much by stereotypes or mindsets of their parents. You can’t just call yourself a citizen by reciting the pledge, or remembering key facts just to pass a citizenship test. It takes time to learn, observe and apply the intricacies and nuances of another culture.

As someone who works with alot of indians and pakistanis in hong kong one of the biggest disappointments with the Pakistani/Indian community is they simply don't learn Cantonese/Mandarin and just learn English and speak English, most dont even bother to learn Cantonese/Mandarin, I have Pakistani/Indian colleagues in their late 20's,early 30's Who are born and raised in hong kong yet can't speak a single word of Mandarin only English, this is the biggest disappointment

I have been to little Afghanistan in Delhi... They're still sticking to their culture.
    I liked it .
India has always been assimilating all cultures over the world so for me it wasn't something new but what I see about other countries was disappointing.hope these things will be okay soon

It's sad that Indigenous people of certain countries and regions along with ethnic minorities are marginalised and both Indigenous and ethnic minorities must be apart of the discussion and decision of a country's future.

Humanity, human rights, gender equality, freedom of expression, and so on are not enough. Because we do not live alone, because humans are social creatures, because there are communities, alliances, and civilizations. So there must be social rights, common rights, and civil rights. I see that individual human rights are not balanced with collective or social rights. And this imbalance then raises social problems in society. Yet our scientific knowledge (science) and technology are very advanced. Human rights have also been fought for to keep pace with the progress of the times. But I see social rights being forgotten, lagging far behind. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe my insight is lacking, or maybe it's true.
"With great power comes great responsibility", I don't know whose words it was, I know from the Spiderman movie. To highly educated people, leaders, people with great influence, rich people, etc., Please consider social rights. I do not have the ability to formulate the development of social human rights, or maybe I misunderstood social rights.

Indians are doing fine in HK. Income is much higher than the city average. Yes, there is some discrimination but it's a different country and city. People find their niches. Indians largely have not bothered to learn Cantonese and/or Mandarin in all the years either so I'm not sure how they expect to get into the mainstream. As for house hunting, there are some bad experiences and they happen more to Indians but these are still the exceptions rather than the rule. If you are law abiding, don't commit crime, you create goodwill in society. There's no ill-will as such towards Indians in HK.

On the housing part, I think there is a practical reason for some other then racism. The cooking style of Indians are greatly different as compared to the Chinese and some Chinese people do not like the small of spices. So they may not want to rent to Indians as they are afraid their house may have a spice smell afterwards. It’s also like how it’s much harder to find a house when you have pets or small kids.

Of course there are. Many of them are shrewd people.
