Yours is one of the very few channels updates I impatiently look forward to. You are the man, I tip my hat to, ^5
Thank you sir, I appreciate that!
Yes!!!!! More f**king videos asap!!!!! I can’t wait much longer!!!!😅
Lol 😝
I don’t know where you get the time and energy to work on this massive project. It’s going to be amazing. Can’t wait to see the end result.
Starting to wonder that myself...I have to admit that there have been moments when I wondered if I bit off more than I can chew 😀 but I think we are on the downward slope now.😀
@@AquariumDomain. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
my thoughts too.
That’s becoming to be quite a bit of a project 😅 and I’m sure a pretty good penny as well. Maybe you can give us a break down of the budget on this pond😂?
But overall very anxious to se it completed bro!
@@aquariumaquarium8080 Yeah, once it is completed I am going to do a video on the cost breakdown...to the penny 😄
It's looking fantastic my man. Living vicariously over here. Haha
Thanks 👍
Predator bay 3000 is gonna be lit!! Im excited
Agreed! I am equally excited for both the 4500 build and Predator Bay 3000!
The 4500g is coming along well. The pond armor looks great. You have put a ton of work into this project and your attention to detail shows. 😊
Thanks Rogue! I knew it would be a big project and it sure is lol 😀 Taking a break from it today, but will get back at it tomorrow.
I can’t wait to get my house down here in South West Florida and try my hand at this, learning a lot thanks
Awesome! Takes some work up front for sure, but well worth it having an awesome tank to enjoy for decades! 😀
@@AquariumDomain. thanks for the tutorial
I would absolutely recommend that you use an orbital power sander to sand back those flawed, none saturated areas. There's no chance you can get it back to where it's totally adhered with a scraper. Just an fyi
Great job mate! It’s gunna be a ripper.. Predatory Fins should hire you when they are ready to build their massive tank.
Pretty sure Predatory Fins is planning to build tanks in the 15-25k gallon range. I am just a simple home hobbyists...no tanks over 5k gallons lol 😄
Great video fella.. tank builder, fish keeper and now a dj 😂..
Keep it up👍
Thanks...but I don't know about the dj part...just some good old free youtube creator music lol 😝
We are getting very close to see this great tank ready to receive the fishes, at looks very very nice, keep going on my friend 😊😊
Plowing forward, but at least now I can see the end of the tunnel...I think lol 😝
I thought, "This guy is off his rocker," when I saw the first video for this build. But there's a fine line between being a madman and a visionary, and I can't wait to see this vision of yours become an awesome reality. 👍
Thank you sir! 😀
When I fiber glassed my inground pool the kit contained a "spiked" roller that was rolled over the fiber glassed mesh once saturated and hung. when rolled with the spike roller it would allow any air pockets behind the mesh to escape so delamination was almost nonexistent great work!
Yeah, I do have a set of fiber glass rollers that I do use in some areas, mostly on the verticals and corners...and they work great. In the video I just filmed doing a couple of patches and just used the super saturation technique. 😀
The work will be worth it when you see those monsters swim by the glass while you sitting back having a drink...... Great Job
You read my mind 😝
Been waiting for your vid...now I know why it took so long from the last...you done loads of work and its all smiles from now on...well done..the best build on TH-cam 👍
Thanks 👍 The fiberglass work was extensive and took a lot of time, but I feel better knowing that the core of the tank is very strong. 😀
@@AquariumDomain. You've got to be the most committed fish keeper I know.. there's no stopping you🤣... I would be so excited to scape that tank... That's another big job in itself... Keep up the good work..
@@eyeinthesky74 I am looking forward to scaping it, but there is 4-5 thousand pounds of material outside that needs to be moved into the tank...not looking forward to that part lol 🙂
@@AquariumDomain. I honestly wish I was there to help... Would love to get creative in that thing... Just wish you weren't dividing it up to be honest
It is looking perfect sir! Looking forward to the next one😊
Thanks Jeff! Like everything on this tank...sanding between coats takes forever lol 😁
When I had a bubble instead of using the scraper tool I use just a orbital sander worked so easy
Definitely, I didn't show it on video, but the scraping was followed up by the sander. :-) The fun part on a tank this size is sanding the epoxy layers between coats :-P
@@AquariumDomain. can’t wait til I build my next one brother
All most there keep going ❤
😀
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching! 😀
Great work! Looking forward to the next update 🤙
Thanks Brad! 😀
Amazing work! I look forward to seeing all those monster tanks coming soon! Just one monster tank is a dream for me lol. Keep up the hard work sir it will definitely pay off soon 🔜!
Thanks! Been a busy week at my day job, but I plan to put in some serious work on the tank this weekend! It's getting close, but still so much work to do lol 😅
@@AquariumDomain. Your welcome 🙏 once everything is done, you will probably have the best personal fish gallery on TH-cam. As a fish 🐟 keeper myself, I wish I could create such an incredible project. Take care
Nice progress , I’m willing to bet that this tank shan’t leak , it couldn’t possibly😂
Fingers crossed! Definitely doing everything in my power to produce the desired outcome 😀
Thanks for taking us along on the trip! Coming along quickly!
Thanks Riko! See you in 3 weeks brother! 😀
I have actually learned a ton since I started watching this project. Mostly I learned is you have way more energy than I do hahahaha. Curious to see how you aquascape this in such a way that you can still use the inserts to segment off the tank? Can't wait to see the final results of this monster tank!!
Hehe...trust me building this beast is testing my energy levels for sure lol 😀
That's a fx6 for you. I've had 5 in the past 3 years. 3 of them shit the bed. After 1 year sitting in storage I tried them again and 2 out the 3 started working again. xD
Lol, there is definitely some level of voodoo involved with keeping FX6's running 😀
I have a whole bunch of fx6s and bear with me... in checking the impeller... make sure there is no filter floss or anything else wrapped around the shaft (not the magnet but space between magnet and propeller. Also that grate right before the impeller does not have snails in there. I had 2 seize on me. 1 had snail shells, other had filter floss. Took me a minute to figure it all out because snails were lodged where magnet is and floss was stuck literally everywhere. Good thing I have one of those harbor freight pick things that looks like a dentist tool because I was this close to throwing in the towel.
Of the 3 that I have one did have a snail shell, a small rock and sand it...so I gave that one a pass for not working. One I got working again and I have one more that doesn't have any noticeable obstructions that I am going to take apart again and see if I can bring it back to life. 😄
Yay I was thinking about this project just yesterday 🎉
Passing the fiberglass stage was a lot of effort, should go faster from here out. 😀
@@AquariumDomain. I wish you were in Texas I’d help you just to learn your method of building big tanks on hand!! Your doing awesome, just as excited as you are, happy for you!!
I’ve been waiting. I love your videos. Thankyou man
Thanks! We are getting close to the good stuff! 😀
Good job👍🏼 on your next project get yourself a paddle roller it will improve your fibreglass finish and you have no redos
I do have one (and other fiberglass tools) but was trying the super saturated roller approach on this build do to the massive size of the tank.
Wow man amazing great job cant wait to see this up and running
You and me both! 😄
@@AquariumDomain. Patience isn't my forte lol
This is an awesome project!
Thanks! 😀
Awesome work! Getting close now 😁
It's getting there 😁
big bucks i bet way cool build
It's been adding up...I am getting a little scared to total up all the receipts lol 😀
Amazing progress man. Can’t wait for this beast to be live with swimming monsters. This is going to be epic I can tell.
Thanks Manish!
You sicko😂😂😂😂😂
Love it !!!!
Lol 😀
Just realized how similar this is to building a reverse glass bottom boat, with the viewing panel on the side not the bottom. Neat.
Pretty much yeah 😀
I could be wrong, but i thought you could get just the replacement motors for the FX filters, so you don't have to replace the whole thing. I have to think that would be cheaper than a whole new one since the rest of the filter is fine.
You can but they are 1/3rd the cost of the whole filter. If I bought another canister I would try a different brand...see if I could find something more reliable.
Congratulations on getting the amazing male odessa barbs, can't wait for the wetland filter build video
Thanks! Odessa Barbs, Royal Trout Danio and Denison Barbs make a great top water trio in the 600! :-)
I love this!
Thanks!
Amazing update! I love the new 4500 gallon build and I can't wait for Predator Bay 3000! 😺😺
Thanks Cali-Girl! I can't wait for Predator Bay 3000 too! 😀😀
the mascara barbs will most plants you add
New batch of plants coming....should fair much better then the last batch.
Great progress. Thanks for the update!
Thanks!
Nice. Can't wait to see it when your done.
You and me both! 😀
Incredible work.
Thank you! Cheers!
I’m currently looking at a wood and fibreglass tank of nakedness with no pond armour and it truly is a thing of beauty you have started a creation that in person I can imagine would be spectacular..👏👏👍
You will still need something like either clear pond armor or another 2-part solids based epoxy to top coat that tank. As far as I know all of the fiberglass/polyester resins will leach toxins into the water over time if not cover with a gel coat or 2-part solids based epoxy.
Good update. Stay safe. Have fun.
Thanks 👍
Epic job mate. What a grind. 👍🏻🏴
Yeah it has kind of been like my second job this summer lol 😀
I have had same issues with 2 of my fx6 filters.
Hey Jeff! I am not happy that you had issues with them too, but feel better that is not just me lol 😀
I keep saying amazing progress. As is your dedication and drive. I forgot about the up grading of all the other exhibits. They are so much more than just tanks. This is going to be a long road. I going to enjoy every minute of it.
Thank you, appreciate that...glad to have you along for the ride 🙂
Thanks man for the play by play on this build can't wait to see the final setup 😁😁
Me too! 😀
Great progress on an awesome build. I'm looking forward to seeing it stocked.
Thanks 👍
I look forward to your videos your craftsmanship is impeccable thank you for the amazing and detailed content this channel is just awesome 😎
Thank you very much! 😀
Wow! the blue really makes the height/depth of the build stick out sooo much. You are an absolute machine to get so much completed since the last update. Awesome!
The crazy thing is the tank is 5 feet tall and 5 feet front to back, but always looks taller than deeper in all the videos lol 😄
I admire you! An incredible amount of work has gone into this build so far.
Thanks! It has been a beast of a build for sure 😀
You do great work and your tanks are amazing how you set them up!. It's always nice to see someone able to do what they want in the hobby keep up they good work.
Thanks, I appreciate that!
Following all the way from South Africa. Can't wait to see the final Setup😬
Awesome! 😀
I have an fx 6 that keeps getting air locked. It's the only one of the three I have that's doing it. And shutting itself off they're not supposed to be able to do that there's supposed to be self-priming but for some reason this one seems to airlock itself. So what I do is pull one of the hoses off real quick so it can push the air out (you have to do it quickly and put it back on real fast before the water starts pushing out) and then plug it back in and it usually starts going.. .. for couple weeks until the air locks itself again. It's only there for polishing I have a sump on that tank
I feel the pain on the canister issues lol 😄. I am doing the same...sump on the 600 gallon and the Fx6 for mechanical polishing...all sponge no bio-material 😄
Not with an fx6 but I have had a situation with a filter that it took me a time to work out what was happening . The impeller was able to spin on the spindle so the motor was running fine but the impeller was staying still 🤣
Yeah when canister filters are working they do a great job on mechanical filtration, but I swear I am always having problems with them lol 😄 That said since I got the fx6 fixed it is doing a great job clearing up the 600!
You are my hero ! /bow, ....... might cost less to run 2 x 25watt UV filters on the 600 gallon, instead of purchasing another FX6.
Should clear you up real good in about 4 to 7 days, for a small fraction of the price.
Fortunately I was able to get my Fx6 working! The tank has been clearing up nicely...I can't wait to show it off 😄
The tank looks great. Try a fx6 service kit if that dont work yu can order just a replacment pump. I use the fx6 filters strictly for water polishing also. but i also switched to the laguna 3000 pressure filters for water polishing as they have a large section in the bottom for biological media, plus they have back wash abilites and a 13watt uv. Lastly ive found a company that makes 48x96 12mm thick rigid fiberglass panels that ive been contemplating using to cover all the large areas in my next tank build. then only have to fiberglass the corners. and then coat. the panels run 31bucks each.
I am thinking on the Zen tank build (500-600) gallon tank I am thinking to fiberglass the panels all while they are disassembled and then screwing / gluing them together and just do another fiberglass coat over the seams. Would make it nicer to fiberglass them outside and all flat surfaces.
I’m more into the bigger fish but that 600 is crazy 💯
Hopefully I can get a similar effect for the big fish in the 4500....a good mix of fish at all levels of the tank.
Fantastic this aquarium with discus. They are bigger and they are moving a lot. And these hairy algae are a little less. Big work with this aquarium plywood and I like much more this blue paint colour then black because its lighting aquarium and has for me better effect not depressing like dark colours. A lot of work done.
I actually like the hair algae in the Discus tank now that it stays nice and short...gives it a mysterious look in my opinion lol 😄
Dang that looks awesome! What kind (or brand) of resin did you use to saturate the fiberglass? Might need to get soon for an upcoming project of my own. :)
Can't wait to see more of this big tank.
Hmmm upcoming project...I like the sound of that. Resin is: True Composites POLYESTER FIBERGLASS LAMINATING RESIN
Amazing work and what a tank 😍 Buzzing through a ton of your vids and I'm trying to figure out how to get the Mrs to give me a room to try a tank build in🤪👍
Completely off topic, are you Sal's brother? 👀
Thanks! I do have brothers, but none named Sal :-)
U definitely want to lower the return line so ur not inducing additional o2 with the water splashing down. It doesn't help the plants much because they require co2 that's produced by the fish.
Yep it's on the list :-)
Ur tanks are getting better and better! Awesome job brother! One thing I want to say is that freshwater rays and plywood tanks don't do too well together. They rasp at the silicone/fbg materials with their mouths. I keep my big boy in a fbg molded tank, not diy. Regarding the fx6 u gotta slap the motor to get it running after u plug it in 😅
I've found that to true with most magnetic drive water pumps that have sat unused for a while.😂
Lol 😀 I will try that!
Lookin good. Anxiously awaiting the completion.. question I have for you.... youll have your 4500 up and running before building the next ones in the annex... do the fumes from resin or epoxy or silicone affect the fish? Do you turn filters off while you are working? Large exhaust fans in rooms? We have an existing fish room woth 70 plus tanks and lookong to build a pmywood tank, but that is my one hang up. Keep up the good content!
The 4500 gallon will definitely be fulling running before I start on any other tanks. Once the 4500 is done the Cichlids from the 3000 gallon will be moved over and then I am going to start on moving the saltwater fish to their new bigger tanks...Predator Bay 3000 woot!!! 😄
As long as the room you are working in is well ventilated you should be fine. I have built some huge tanks with other tanks running, but I always make sure to keep exhausting the air with fumes and bringing in fresh air.
Awsome progress..❤ that’s a monster tank… how’s the koi pond doing?
Koi pond is doing great, I will try to add a little footage of it in the next video.
Try gently tapping those FX motors with a hammer when they lock up.
I still have one that I haven't got to work yet...I will try the hammer on it 😀
You must have a really good job that pays well and doesn't require many hours. Where do you work?
It is a good job, but the doesn't require many hours is way off. My time spent in the aquarium basement is typically 9pm - midnight and weekends. Wish I had more time to do more of the fun work 😁
Is this the Delta Blue color pond armor? It actually looks nice!
Yep it's Delta Blue....if it were a salt tank I think I would use this color as the final coat :-)
Looks amazing! I built a 3,000 gallon indoor pond recently. I used concrete blocks laid flat then had it fibre glassed. What made you got for a wood build vs concrete?
Both methods work, I have experience and comfort working with wood, fiberglass and epoxy and don't have the same experience and comfort level with concrete.
Awesome stuff, AD. Looks great! Question: When you're switching the 3000 to salt, does the die-off of the bacteria create a new cycle? I imagine some bacteria survive between fresh and salt systems but there are probably a lot of different strains. What's your experience with that? Just a curiosity. Be well!
Yeah, any organic die off will start off the next cycle, of which there will be a ton. I don't know if there are any bacteria that will carry over from fresh to salt, but the plan is to get it all cleaned up as best as possible, get the sand and dry rock in there and then fill with saltwater and fire up the protein skimmer and then start moving over existing live rock and dosing bacteria. After about a week of that I will move over the bulk of the live rock and the fish. Got to keep that balance between organic waste and bacteria in balance. 😀
Wooo first one here
Hehe nice! 😸
I wish someone would do a video showing how to set up an FX6 to be a polisher .....
Lots of sponge.. I use ppi 30 and a bit of 40 in the last center tray
Basically replace all the ceramic media in the middle with sponge or pads. The more it gets clogged up the more it particles it catches...until it gets clogged lol 😄
@@AquariumDomain. thanks, will do
Why you don’t show the shark tank no more do you still have it
Oh yeah still have it and the Bamboo Sharks are huge. Just haven't shown it much since I am going to be moving them into the bigger 3000 gallon once the 4500 is done....just nothing going on with them at the moment.
Where can we purchase your T shirts [other merch]?
I don't sell any merch, I give it away to channel members (after a period of time) and to channel subscribers/members that I meet at shows....like the Keystone Clash in a couple of weeks! 😀
Why not use PVC sheet/board instead of ply wood
I have used and do like dimensional pvc boards for exterior finish framing, but have never tried using pvc sheet with fiberglass and epoxy...don't know if that would work well....basically been sticking with the design that has worked for me over the years. 😊
Also, I hope you're scuffing up the surface of the fiberglass in between layers.
Most definitely! I did a step by step diy tank build series that covers all the steps. Even though this isn't a how to series I should throw in a little bit more on each of the steps just to help out anyone new to building tanks like these and sees these videos and not the how too ones.
wouldnt it be easier faster an cheaper if you would have made the front with bricks instead of a whole wood aquarium
Short answer...no. Once you accounted for all the metal tie ins to support the pressure I don't see any cost savings. Also I don't have masonry skills or experience.
You are using too much resin and not wetting out the mat properly. The reason is that you don't use an aluminium fin or paddle roller in addition to the paint roller. You can save some resin and have a much easier time if you use one of those. Look at what this guy does after he is done with the paint roller:
