- Motorsports Technology student, Alex Barry, talks about studying the course with Edith Cowan University (ECU). Alex discusses the reasons why he came from Sydney, New South Wales, to study this course with ECU. He talks about the lecturers and support staff and how their industry background has contributed to his experience in the course.
He talks about the Formula SAE components of the course. The Motorsports students build a 600cc Formula SAE car as part of their course. The students then use the racing car to compete in the student FSAE racing competition, where they race the car against other student teams around the world. There are 550 teams within the competition, the Edith Cowan University (ECU) Racing Team is ranked 22nd in the competition.
Alex outlines the biggest achievement the Racing team has undertaken in 2014: bringing a car they built over to Silverstone Circuit (a Motor Racing Track in England) to compete in the 2014 Formula Student Competition. While the team was over there, they won the Mercedes AMG Petronas award for Best Powertrain Installation of an Internal Combustion Engine and the Jaguar Land Rover award for Innovation in Propulsion Systems. The team also won the Best Driver award of the competition.
