Most Bounty Hunters in Star Wars seem to act more like mercenaries than anything.
Bounty hunters, mercenaries, contract killers are the same thing in star wars.
That's exactly what they are
BH in the SW universe operate way differently than in the real world. The term “Bounty Hunter” in SW is mostly used to conglomerate Hired Guns, Mercenaries, Contract Killers and literal Bounty Hunters. I wouldn’t categorize Smugglers under the Bounty Hunting term though, since their line of work doesn’t entail killing or combating for money.

@@WMM-td4pk Pretty much only in the US. They're like a private police force, but with fewer privileges. If somebody has a warrant out for their arrest but the police don't really have the time or resources to go chasing them, a bounty hunter can go pick them up instead. When they turn them in they get paid. They almost exclusively work for bail bond companies, so if someone goes to jail and takes out a loan to pay bail, then doesn't pay it back, a bounty hunter goes after them.
Basically a really big guy with a gun a badge and a vest knocks on your door and says "You owe someone money, follow me."

For the quality of content that the Templin Institute makes. They are criminally underrated.
There are actually multiple guilds, or at least, there were: they usually had a speciality, like hostage rescue, instead of lone wolves tracking targets.
Several smaller guilds were under the main guild, but not every Hunter had to join a smaller guild. And each guild had their own leader but most just listened to the larger guild.
I love how that video connects with the Mandalorian.
The down to earth version would be the United Nations’ Mercenary Guild, which was originally established in the wake of the Second World War, but decommissioned due to the Cold War, but due to events such as what happened on September 11th, 2001, it became apparent that such an organization had to be reestablished…
Shame you didn't cover the Legends Bounty Hunter's Guild. You coulda used The Bounty Hunter's Code sourcebook. Its CHOCK-FULL of information.

It’s interesting how the guild would comply to whatever Galactic regime was in power. I would think they would be neutral similar to the Hutts who would do business in all sides!
I love old starwars and the clone wars. (Haven't watched mando but heard good things) many characters are designed after famous movie characters, count ban is inspired by Clint Eastwood and joba the hutt is inspired but old mobster films.
If you're a fan of Sergio Leone style Westerns then I really can't recommend The Mandalorian enough!

No matter what age of the galaxy you're in, one thing is for certain: there's always going to be some guy who has put a price on some other guy's head and someone looking to cash in on that price.
Of course, the real question is what happens when the guy who was going to cash in suddenly turns against the guy who put that price...
Anyway, I hope you'll do some Bounty Hunter Dossiers soon, like Boba Fett or the Mandalorian.

Is bounty hunting practical? Like how can you find a single target in a dense city for example. Let alone a system or a region of the galaxy.
Depends on your skill level, your equipment, and the person. Someone like a senator or Jedi would be easy to track. But tracking some no-name spice dealer would bw harder since they could blend in easier.
Ive reached on mission 4 i still got time to get rid of that zombies with dark bullet and Sniper Cannon will be easy as Pie aso this day is Baron Samedy Saturday
Is it wise to trust a bounty hunter? Only as long as you have something they want, namely credits. That'll keep them on your leash. But the second you tell them to do something they'd rather not do, or it's revealed that you have a price of your own on your head, they won't hesitate to put a few smoking holes in your back. Always be on your guard around a bounty hunter, whether they're working for you or not.

You claim that the fall of the Empire led to the end of "government-sanctioned contracts" and that the New Republic was unwilling to employ the services of the Guild. Who, then, set the bounty on Fennec Shand? She was specifically a bounty because she fled the New Republic as they had locked up all her employers and she was a hired killer. It makes a lot of sense that the NR set up the bounty themselves, as who else would have the capital or the desire to see her dead or captured?
Can the NR even afford bounty hunters? Last time i checked most of the budget goes to making sure Mon Mothma doesn't accidentally forget to blink and breathe at the same time.
Corrupt senators, military officers going around the law, debt collectors to name a few possibilities.

Disarms the Military when there are still threats out there, she also failed to utilise the most effective tool around for capturing leftover Imperials - Bounty Hunters.
