My in-laws told us and others they had a college fund for 18 years… when the big day came to write us checks for our two kids….. drum roll….. $150/kid. $300 total. Grandparents: It’s better to not mention it and surprise your kids and grandkids with a college fund just in case you don’t get around to saving.
@@HisDudeness_69 Their kid went to private college in the 90s. That costed what public universities do now. There is no surprise other than maybe how fast the years flew by! 🙂
@@tmusa2002 I mean…. Depending on where they lived $150 still may have been enough for a car back in their day. Also public uni tuition costs have rose an average of 140% nationwide since 2000 so idk where you’re getting your information from but you’re off by a long shot girlfriend
@@HisDudeness_69 its a COLLEGE fund not a field trip. aka saving for years..........they added like 15 bucks a year to ts for 18 whole years.. they knew what they were doing cus aint no way.☠
loved this video Kate!! I’d also like to emphasize that merit scholarships are usually based on grades, test scores, and academic performance and not necessarily extracurriculars/resume :)
My advice for me is go to the local community college for the first two years and graduate with your two year degree, then transfer in to an affordable university as a junior. Community college is a whole lot less expensive and some states provide tuition free community college for two years. It is a lot cheaper to stay in state as well. If you do go this route, make sure to check with your academic advisor to see if the credits transfer to the target university (university you are transferring to) and count towards your four year degree.
i remember watching ur videos a few years ago which helped me a lot w the application process, and i’m now going to duke university in the fall!!! wishing u the best for ur future
I started in a fast food sit down restaurant then moved to retail and it was such a great way to get basic people skills and grow! It helped me get a lot of jobs later on and I noticed my friends who didn’t work in college this became harder for them and they didn’t have a sense of workplace urgency when helping people.
Aloha Kate Li! I'm also from Hawaii. I appreciate your input on leaving the island to grow as a person. I hope this next adventure will be great at my university next fall :)
What if the two year community college has only a accounting program but the 4 year I will transfer has finance and I want a finance major and accounting minor
@@Messup7654 I am also studying at a community college in Business Administration and will be transferring as an accounting student at a four year school. I think you will also have the opportunity to get tuition reimbursement. I think that pathway would be fine, a lot of staff accountant job postings usually accept either Accounting or Finance majors. But make sure you at least get an internship in auditing or tax, that’ll help.
Serve in the military for 4 years. College will be paid for, plus you will earn other lifetime benefits. Military service will also open doors socially and in employment.
@olliestale864 That's a good question. You could talk to a recruiter about that. Your field of education may earn you a sign up bonus if your education applies to a military job. I really doubt the military benefits pay for previous education costs. It is my understanding that education benefits that you earn can be used by a spouse or children.
Hello, In California, the only grant a master’s student can receive is the State University Grant. When I apply for Fafsa and it asks me my assets, is there a limit for how many assets I can have to get the state university grant? Meaning, how much would be too much money in my banl account and would prevent me from getting the state university grant?
How does FAFSA count money in an irrevocable trust? Our child has money in a trust that they cannot access until they are 25. It was funded by a lawsuit. Can they count money that is inaccessible?
He should be able to access that cash to pay for college, if not honestly not fair to take grants from kids who don’t have a trust fund. Apply for private loans and pay them off when you’re done with your own money.. seriously as a poor parent this sickens me because you’re not the only that or vote for free college like almost all of Europe! 😠
I am trying to get a scholarship for next year and I have a job I have been trying to save up and am taking some extra classes but am also still worried about this scholarship because I need it😢so I have been working hard
COMMENT more videos you want me to make :) thank you for watching, I hope this helps you in your college journey. I'm rooting for youuu!!

$150 probably used to be enough for a house when they were young FWIW

You’ll want to ask a tax professional about that.
