I lived. Had a cold last week which put me out for the count, but we're back! I'll take on a few smaller topics the next few weeks, just to work my way back into things, then see where we go from there ^^
Messmer is my all time favourite boss and about as close to a perfect boss as I can think of. The amount of character and story they managed to squeeze into two cutscenes along with his dialogue throughout and at the end of the fight is a big reason for that love too.
that close take of the snake staring right into the camera with him saying "Thou'rt tarnished, it seemeth" in such a reluctant voice as if he cant believe it is incredible
@araara7713 All of it is perfect, the rehearsed speech breaking into genuine concern when he realizes what we are. Then noticing the only non-beheaded Marika statue is in his room as he rips out the protection granted by his Mother and completely succumbs to his curse. That line of “I will not suffer a lord devoid of light” is so poignant as this entire crusade against the Hornsent, his entire purpose and why he became a irredeemable monster in his Mothers name, was both as revenge for what happened to her but also to slaughter beings bereft of light and devoid of the golden grace of the Erdtree. Except a fucking Tarnished, a being specifically stated to be a lightless graceless creature, sent BY HIS MOTHER walks into his chambers to murder him. Messmer always knew deep down his Mother abandoned him but that statue shows he still held out hope, a Tarnished showing up at his Mother’s behest was a slap to the face undermining all the atrocities he had committed in her name rendering them worthless. In that 2nd cutscene he’s manic completely losing his composure and even after all of this he still begs his Mother for forgiveness before unleashing his curse. Right up until the end when he’s defeated and in his final moments the realization that he had been truly abandoned and all the horrors he had committed had been for nothing does he finally say “Mother…Marika…a curse upon thee” as if calling out to his Mother one last time before stripping her of that title as she no longer deserves it after what she’s done to him, calling her by her name and forever cursing her for what she had done. I could keep going but yes needless to say Messmer is the greatest boss of all time.
i personally loved the gaping dragon as well really one of the best uses of camera angles in the series. and messmer's cutscene gave me chills and its personally my favorite boss cutscene of all time. also shoutout to nameless puppet and lady ethereal's cutscenes. despite being souls likes, they are really damn creepy cutscenes for amazing boss fights
For me, Gael's cutscene is absolutely the best one Fromsoftware have ever made. The buildup is really strong, the lines are iconic, the framing of the shots is perfect, the depravity and tragedy of the character is portrayed perfectly, while still showing his heroic spirit and insane willpower by having him still remember his mission...like, I just can't think of a single thing I would ever change about it. Also, I love Gael perhaps a little too much, so this is definitely a biased take, lol
I would argue for the Last Giants Boss Cutscene that it is fucking intimidating when his frantic running translates to him running at you at the start of the battle and directly engaging you without any wait... he is not just standing there after the cutscene like with most other boss cutscenes. On my first attempt it almost jump scared me when he Was already going for his first swing at me when I wasn't even prepared properly
So weird to me when people mispronounce Gehrman's name. He says his name in his cutscene. It isn't pronounced like "Gurrmen." It's pronounced like "Gairmen."
Thank you for talking about Gaping Dragon. Easily one of my favorites for that intro and design alone, and even if I have the master key, I never skip the Depths
I feel with your logic/excuse with sekiro, I feel the same with DS3. You have to fight the King of the Storm every time, but when you kill him, the cutscene for the Nameless king sacrificing his friend and pet for the power to defeat you and then he proceeds to explode with lightning to fight you went SO HARD
I changed my handle recently, but I'm happy that my dumb joke cheered you up during your illness and honored to be featured in the video. Take care and keep up the good work, Billy.
I think midra is a bit of a special case as while you could argue that his old man form is technically the start of the fight, its also only being treated as a regular enemy, with no boss healthbar or music, so i guess wether midra cutscene is a boss intro of a boss transition is highly subjective
I'll make the best boss transition cutscene list for you: 1. Godrick 2. Godrick 3. Godrick 4. Godrick 5. Godrick 6. Godrick 7. Godfrey 8. Godrick 9. Godrick 10. Godrick
Hey Billy, good to have you back. My nominations: DeS - agree DS1 - Manus by a nose DS2 - It's the Lost Sinner BB - Gehrman. Maria my favourite boss but I think the intro cutscene is actually overrated DS3 - Sister Friede Sekiro - Emma/Isshin Ashina Shura ER - Mohg, Lord of Blood
She is the Lost Sinner: 'Prisoner of Sinners' Rise, the Lost Sinner eternally punishes herself for the sins of her past. Indeed, she committed what some would believe to be the ultimate sin - she attempted to relight the First Flame.'
Also, I know the boss itself but, consort radahns intro is just, so cool. I dont care that it repeats the story trailer. Radahn is just a cool character and that is all I care about
Dark souls 2 boss intros being bad? Bro why is the red effect bad? It's not...I personally find that effect to be awesome, almost makes me intimidated for what's to come. I think it's a good effect, and you just have too high standards. Start lowering them next time.
I lived. Had a cold last week which put me out for the count, but we're back! I'll take on a few smaller topics the next few weeks, just to work my way back into things, then see where we go from there ^^
Glad you're feeling better dood

Lies of P: king of puppets
Black Rabbit Brotherhood is also great. Gives me slasher movies vibes
My favourite in DS3 is still Gael the “What still here” is so iconic
i personally loved the gaping dragon as well really one of the best uses of camera angles in the series. and messmer's cutscene gave me chills and its personally my favorite boss cutscene of all time.
also shoutout to nameless puppet and lady ethereal's cutscenes. despite being souls likes, they are really damn creepy cutscenes for amazing boss fights
The last time I was this early bosses didn't have cutscenes
Lady marias cutscene is one of the few boss cutscenes i may or may not be able to quote the entire of 👀
Also yes messmers intro is perfect nothing like being called a mongrel intruder lmao 😊
My favorite in the series is Martyr Logarius. Like Dancing Lion, the whole “goes from lifeless to threatening” thing is a favorite trope of mine.
You forgot about Oceiros intro cutscene for ds3 lol
YOU IGNORANT SLAVES!
Ignorant slaves, how quickly you forget
Ignorant slave...
My little Ocelot child of dragons!
I don't blame him
For me it's Pinwheel. He might be weak but his cutscene is really creepy
Tonight, Gehrman joins the hunt
For me, Gael's cutscene is absolutely the best one Fromsoftware have ever made. The buildup is really strong, the lines are iconic, the framing of the shots is perfect, the depravity and tragedy of the character is portrayed perfectly, while still showing his heroic spirit and insane willpower by having him still remember his mission...like, I just can't think of a single thing I would ever change about it.

I really like logarius, truly " an oh shit im fucked" moment
I would argue for the Last Giants Boss Cutscene that it is fucking intimidating when his frantic running translates to him running at you at the start of the battle and directly engaging you without any wait... he is not just standing there after the cutscene like with most other boss cutscenes. 8:47 you forgot about Oceiros… he has an intro cutscene
Talking about the coolness of Messmer's cutscen while entering in it with the most uncool headpiece and ruining it completely 😛
Thank you for talking about Gaping Dragon. Easily one of my favorites for that intro and design alone, and even if I have the master key, I never skip the Depths
Hey, i remember you from your old smash vidoes on your old channel, nice to see you're still around
Why do I find the cheerful and light-hearted Spirit Tracks music in a video about some of the most intimidating bosses in gaming so hilarious? 😊
THANK YOU! I think the Gaping Dragon intro is criminally underrated
BB has so many good ones my favorite is Ludwig because its just so creepy and that roar gives me the shivers everytime
Hell yeah Spirit Tracks intro music... such a banger.
Excited to watch yet another great Billy S video. Stay slay, my brother.
My favourite boss intro is the way you open your videos, boss. Hehehe
Great list. Love seeing Gaping Dragon make it.
+1 honor for Gascoigne
I changed my handle recently, but I'm happy that my dumb joke cheered you up during your illness and honored to be featured in the video. Take care and keep up the good work, Billy.

Love the Gaping Dragon pick. Wildest first impression.
You've missed Oceiros
A video about the best cutscens and not picking" hand it over. That thing. Your dark soul"?
I'll make the best boss transition cutscene list for you:
1. Godrick
2. Godrick
3. Godrick
4. Godrick
5. Godrick
6. Godrick
7. Godfrey
8. Godrick
9. Godrick
10. Godrick
Fr, him ripping the dragon head off and attaching it to his arm is peak.
you got my like as soon as you roasted Demon's Souls Remake's artstyle 🙌🏽
Demon Souls is definitely Maiden Astrea - Go forth Garl Vinland
I absolutely love the Moon Presence's intro. But I think the One Reborn is underappreciated.
+1 reason why Messmer is my favourite boss in Elden Ring.
Hey Billy, good to have you back. My nominations:
DeS - agree
DS1 - Manus by a nose
DS2 - It's the Lost Sinner
BB - Gehrman. Maria my favourite boss but I think the intro cutscene is actually overrated
DS3 - Sister Friede
Sekiro - Emma/Isshin Ashina Shura
ER - Mohg, Lord of Blood
I’m a simple man, when Billy posts a video, I click
Could you do the best/most luscious heads of hair in Soulsborne?
0:30 long and hard 🗣🗣🗣🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
i agree with everything on this list except Messmer, Midra's intro was much better IMO
5:02 which boss is that? The insect crawling inside his eyes . Seems badass
She is the Lost Sinner: 'Prisoner of Sinners' Rise, the Lost Sinner eternally punishes herself for the sins of her past. Indeed, she committed what some would believe to be the ultimate sin - she attempted to relight the First Flame.'
For sword sainr isshin, both are differenr bosses in the reflections! They are not one boss I swear you are so right about them being different
Also, I know the boss itself but, consort radahns intro is just, so cool. I dont care that it repeats the story trailer. Radahn is just a cool character and that is all I care about
Can you do more soulsborne ost content?
TOGETHAAAA
Ludwig got robbed lmao
Rent do be getting high
Dark souls 2 boss intros being bad?
Bro why is the red effect bad? It's not...I personally find that effect to be awesome, almost makes me intimidated for what's to come. I think it's a good effect, and you just have too high standards. Start lowering them next time.
God is good amen
