    Is the softlock really a softlock if there are skeletons? If you can get a boneward drop from them I am pretty sure if you don't fire Majula bonfire you'll get teleported there always. That should be an escape.

    Nashandra and the Majula Cat both tell you the Ancient Dragon is a fraud without really elaborating on it. It's heavily implied it's not a real dragon and is instead just an artificial being made by Aldia using the power of a Giant Soul to mimic an actual Everlasting Dragon which explains why it drops one.

    • @rodein
      @rodein 13 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +51

      to add on to this, there are tons of giant corpses in aldia's keep, implying that he was doing some sort of experimentation on the giants, so to me its reasonable that he ended up creating some sort of false dragon with the results of his experiments

    • @nothingness217

      I'm pretty sure the game states as a fact that the "ancient dragon" is an outright fake and really a giant; perhaps the ancient dragon heart description icr; either way pretty sure it's a fact.

    • @A_Black_Sheep94
      @A_Black_Sheep94 11 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +8

      @@johnsmith-xw7hvWell some assume Seath created the baby ancient dragon but it's just as possible it was a hidden leftover from the age of dragons, or possibly even spared, and the conspirators were keeping the dragon hidden from Seath and the Gods (could very well be the nameless king who saved or hid the ancient dragon baby as we know he eventually sided with the dragons) as the game pretty heavily implies Seath went completely insane from trying and repeatedly failing to recreate the ancient dragons so it would seem odd he would have succeeded and then gone insane or gone insane and then happened to create a pure ancient dragon baby. It could be that Seath created the ADB, it could well not be. We'll never know for sure.

    You can also softlock yourself by starting a new char with ascetic as a gift and killing old dragonslayer without lighting any bonfires, then if you light the bonfire past him and use an ascetic, the boss respawns, locking you in that small area and you cant enter his arena from behind

      Power stance, bonfire ascetics and the inventory menu update are way better points to compliment this game on.

    I did a file of the game where I got every item, so I have a few fun facts to share relating to enemy drops. Not sure how commonly known these are, but they're neat nonetheless.
    Wearing the King's Ring makes the statue enemies in Drangleic Castle non-hostile until you attack them, allowing you to walk around the castle without being attacked.
    And, in a related fact, most of the Stone Soldiers (you know, the ones with the spears) near the King's Gate bonfire in Drangleic Castle respawn infinitely, even when not in the Company of Champions. And these Stone Soldiers have a low (but not too low) chance of dropping Titanite Slabs. Combine this with the afore-mentioned King's Ring fact to easily and safely farm Titanite Slabs. Just, ah, make sure you despawn all the Ruin Sentinels first.
    The Golems in Frozen Eleum Loyce can be killed before they wake up. Seriously. You can just hit them while they're inert and they take damage like normal. I can't imagine this was intended behavior, what with how they're used as obstacles around the chest containing the Curved Nil Greatsword, but there you go. And similarly to that, the Stone Knights in King's Passage can be killed before they wake up, too. But you'll only have time to do it to one of them, and you can run past them pretty easily, so it's not really worth it.
    Enemies that drop equipment will each only drop one of each piece of equipment. What that means is that if you kill, say, a Heide Knight, and he drops the Heide Knight Greathelm, that specific Heide Knight will never drop the Heide Knight Greathelm again (until the next NG+ cycle, I think).
    The Insolent Spirits in Undead Crypt can drop Fragrant Branches of Yore, albeit rarely. There are enough guaranteed branches in the game to make this unnecessary, but if you use one in the wrong place, you're technically not entirely screwed. They also drop a bunch of other stuff, too, and they never drop pieces of their set when you really want them. Seriously, if you're going after this set, save yourself the headache and backup your save before summoning the spirits.
    Some enemies have truly bizarre drop pools. The Kobolds in Aldia's Keep drop the Affinity hex, as well as Black Knight weapons and a couple other weapons too. The spiders in Brightstone Cove Tseldora drop a selection of odd weapons, such as the Mastodon Halberd, and in original DS2 they could even drop Ricard's Rapier. And the Dark Stalkers (the weird long-arm things in No-Man's Wharf) drop pieces of the Tattered Cloth set and some basic swords.
    The Heide Knight in The Gutter drops the Heide Knight Iron Mask and the Heide Lance... but ONLY on Bonfire Intensity 1. If you miss them... say, for example, he throws himself off the damn cliff while you're fighting him and his drops spawn deep out of bounds, completely out of your reach, right in the middle of your All Items file... you can never get them again. Respawning him with a Bonfire Ascetic or going to a new NG cycle won't save you. You only get one chance.

      I'm not sure if anyone here realizes this, but the reason why the guys by the King's Gate bonfire respawn is to ensure you don't despawn them and lock yourself out from opening the right door. It's also why knights constantly come from around the corners outside of Drangleic castle, to make sure you can open the door.

    Dark Souls 2 has a very diverse set of Trapped Chests, a feature that's almost entirely dropped in future titles.
    These Trapped Chests include:
    A Firebomb Trap (Unique*)
    A Tri-Shot Repeater Crossbow Trap (Random)
    A Poison Spray Mist (Random)
    A Taunting Orb (Unique*)
    A Healing Spray Mist (Random, Very Rare)
    *I've only ever encountered the Firebomb Trap in Brightstone, but I've heard others that it can be random as well.
    *The Taunting Orb is also unique to Brightstone in the spider den before the Congregation Boss, though I've heard that it can be random as well.
    *The Healing Mist Trap is Very Rare and will actively heal the player that stands in its Red Mist.
    As for Illusory Walls, I prefer to call the ones in DS2 Secret Walls instead. As calling it a Secret Wall implies that you have to find the hidden switch to operate it, whereas an Illusory Wall simply requires physical interaction to break it.

    • @CaptinSpyke
      @CaptinSpyke 6 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +4

      I think it's a mix. There are several of those projected into a memory sequences in this game that could be equated to a 'dream.' The literal first line of the opening cinematic is "Perhaps you've seen it, maybe in a dream." and if the contents of the opening are taken beyond face value, it implies your character as a victim of the hollowing curse(and potentially others drawn to the land like Lucatiel) dreams of Drangleic in some sort of subconscious understanding to look for the cure there. There's more cut content regarding characters like the Emerald Herald that probably supports it more, but that's not in the final product.
      But of course, much of what constitues the fan perception of the dreamy nature of the game is the result of being stitched together in a few months to create a functional game(which they accomplished far more in that time than many would have.) Just take the Shrine of Amana being shuffled from the first area after the tutorial to the start of the final stretch of the base game as an example.

    Without question the most underrated Souls game ever . In fact , I would argue that by today's standards ds2 could probably compete or even surpass ds1 .
    The huge weapon variety , actually interesting new game plus , 3 amazing dlcs , the fact that you can obtain almost any weapon that you might want to use almost instantly ( if you know where to go ) and the solid pvp that yes , surpasses Elden Ring in certain aspects ( fight me for this one ) makes ds2 a unique experience. Its not a perfect game , far from it , but most of its flaws can also be found on other souls titles and yet no one bats an eye.

    Majula is my favourite hub area out of any game that I played in my entire life, maybe giant's deep in Outer Wilds but because I really like Gabro, he finds calm in the middle of the storm, the "only" place on the entire planet in wich it can chill and play his instrument (and he chooses to play always that song cause thats what the rest of his friends are playing too), tried to keep spoiler at minimum, but well that's not a hub technichally but more like a pitstop, wich we were talking about, oh yeah majulla would totally live there, the skelleton buddis on the basement totally a plus, and free.

  • @nova3530onyt
    @nova3530onyt 15 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +2

    Ds2 is probably one of the few games which feel amazing even tho it's development was crazy and had tons of cut content. Lots of the atmosphere is created from its weird development cycle and it truly feels like fantasy. It's hard to truly describe. Getting back to majula after adventuring you cannot explain how comforted you feel. In DS1 while I looove firelink and the safety you feel there! nothing really captures majula's feel after going through this rough, unfinished and kinda dreamlike levels and just admiring the sun and seascape.
    I've played all the souls games and 1 and 3 are decently easy games once it 'clicks' with you, DS2 sotfs was the 1st one I actually went wow this is kinda challenging. In a series famed for it's hard difficulty I can't understand how people say scholar is crap. It's genuinely different to Ds2 vanilla and different from other souls. It made me think how to attack large mobs and I loved that. Like other souls games I stopped, figured it out and moved on as with 1 and 3. Nothing different. Yes adp was a thing but ffs leveling it up is a breeze. DS1 and ds3 are amazing games and I love them, but 1 felt janky and 3 was a best of hits collection but didn't leave an impact on me as 1 and 2 in how unique they felt. 3 was like I'm them but better.
    While that may have just been my personal experience I feel like Ds2 gets hate for the very thing souls games are famed for - difficulty lol😅
    Dark souls fans are fucking weird.

    • @laxis3155
      @laxis3155 14 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      The idea behind a souls game is not just the difficulty, but much more. The reason why ds2 is mistreated is precisely because it focused more on being difficult (and not on how to be difficult), all with a slow character movement system.
      And let's not mention the fact that many bosses are beaten simply by going behind their backs.
      I understand ds2's love of detail and how Ng+ works, I too would love it if they were included in the new games; but other than that, the rest is pretty much ignorable.

    • @nova3530onyt
      @nova3530onyt 3 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +3

      @laxis3155 yup I agree, ds is so much more than difficulty. It's seriously well thought out and the idea of learning more about the world through items is quite fun as well as having deep resonating themes. I do wholeheartedly agree that its deeper. Its one of my fav game series.
      Your point on ds2 focusing on difficulty is fair. But it is kinda weird when people are so taken aback by that. I feel ds2 offered the best story imo and gave me exactly people what I wished for. A souls story not directly or as important as 1. Somewhere far away with its own identity. For me Ds2 is also the most varied in environment design that really stick out. And ds2 introduced a lot of mechanics I wish 1 and 3 had. The idea of using healing gems is great. Its so satisfying to use and I miss it in other games. There's a few things I find unique to 2 but the story is what really makes it special to me. I am a little biased towards it.
      And yes, most bosses require walking around them. Very fair point you bring up. I do wish it had more varied fighting styles but what made it ok for me was fighting lots of reasonably sized knights. Not everyone's cup of tea yes. But I find in souls games there's quite a few of bosses large in size and you spend alot of time swinging swords at scrotums. So its more my speed to fight knights. Seems slower but its more fun. Ds3 has amazing fast paced fights tho from decently sized enemies. Ds2 needed more of that.
      I just meant that there's a lot of hate bandwagons rolling through the fan base and it seems funny because ds2 is still an amazing fantasy game. Dark souls is that good. The so called worst one is leagues above most games. But alot of people can't see any good in it. Of course this is just my opinion. I do appreciate hearing from people like you who have genuine criticism and I wish ds2 received a good remake that appeased most and added cut content as well addressed the issues you bring up. Its development cycle crushed what would've been an amazingly perfect souls game. I love its imperfections and hence my comment, I love the weird vibe it gives off. Really adds to the fantasy feel.
      Regardless, thanks for adding your comment. I don't know which is ur fav dark souls but if you haven't seen it (I suspect u probably have tho), pls see the Arch thrones mod. Its so awesome. It has like all the cool dark souls areas in one game.

    • @VladDascaliuc
      @VladDascaliuc 3 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@laxis3155 It's not mistreated, since that implies it doesn't deserve it. The game is poorly designed in pretty much every aspect, with most of what works being solely because it's a sequel to Dark Souls, and even then it manages to do things worse than its predecessor.
      The game is a case study, if nothing else. It's also interesting to see how most of the people defending it do so on very nebulous terms as calling it "unique" without having much of a clue about what they even mean.

    The navigation panel in the ship in No Man's Wharf having "The Sacrifice of Isaac " (in 4:48) reminds me of my friend pointing out several instances in Dark Souls 2 where imagery from the Bible is either used or taken inspiration from (notably with the Looking Glass Knight and the Old Iron King, according to their interpretation), and seeing that little detail there reminded me of that. A lot of textures in Dark Souls 2 are from texture resources (same with sounds as well). You'll often see real world art or sculptures in the game simply because they looked like they'd fit.
    I'm sure someone has looked at the sacrifice of Isaac on the navigation table and thought it had some deep lore connection to Dark Souls but it was really just for flare lol.

Because there was an item it made me want to give it a shot and I eventually ended up getting both of them. This isn't something I've even wanted to try in the other games just because there isn't anything to show for it. 🤷

It did so many things different, some good, some bad - but it was overall an incredible experience. Yes it has it's flaws and directly comparing it to Dark Souls makes you realize just how different it is, and while a ton of fans of the series always point toward DS2 as the 'black sheep' of the trilogy, I still played it for hundreds of hours - and loved every second of it. It's a phenomenal game.
