"Tears in Heaven" is a song by English guitarist, singer, and songwriter Eric Clapton and Will Jennings, written about the death of Clapton's four-year-old son, Conor.
This was therapy to heal the pain from what I read
I think the boy fell from an apartment high rise window
It's about his child.
This video actually detracks from the true meaning of grief over losing his son in a fall from a high rise building, his son crawled out the window. The video is from a movie that used the song. The real grief is impossible to imagine, where as the movie is fictional.
Many, many moons ago ( LOL) when videos first came out........this was all the great artists biggest complaint ...........I remember it so well
In his grief he wishes he could be with his son in heaven, but he must be strong and stay until it's his time and hopes his son will know him when
he does see him in heaven.
Song about losing his son who fell out of a skyscraper window on the 53rd floor he was only 4 years old his name was Conner RIP
My wife passed away in July and even though this song make me cry I still listen to it because as much as I cry it helps me heal. I wish I could say I was healed but her death hurts like it was yesterday I would say the only thing that hurts worse than losing a spouse is losing a child. I love your reactions
This song is about his child who died from a fall.
The song was born of the tragedy of his young son’s death falling from a skyscraper in NY. In happened in the 80 s I remember it being reported,I was working in a local bar and the whole room was crushed for the man and his family . The video clips are some movies that used the music , I hate they are in this because the acoustic version is so beautiful
Lovely song written for his four year old son who passed.
Ty for backing this up with the 2nd video Tasha. It hits differently as you experienced. 🥺
Conor deserves the respect
(as does Eric) his father wrote it for. RIP sweet Conor.
More Clapton please and there is a plethora of selections. Enjoy. ✌🏽
Girl I laughed my head off when you said Clampton...don't ever change! 🥰
Amazing that he can do this song live.
I can't imagine how he wrote this song about his son and how he could perform it live.
I read this was part of his therapy to cope
Also considering he had to ID his sons body afterwards
Lol. . . Eric Clampton 😂 We knew what you meant. This song is a very sad reminder of how his son Connor at age 4 tragically fell out of a window to his untimely death 😢😢. The video was from a movie that the song was featured in called “Rush”. Tasha, this song reminds of my grandmother too. She passed suddenly and she liked Eric Clapton’s music and I tear up almost every time I hear this song. 😢
I was in high school when this came out, still gives me chills!
It was an absolute tragedy.. I don't know how he got through it.. rest in heaven little guy
If you only knew the story behind this song 🥲 The film footage is from the movie Rush, this song is on the soundtrack. It’s a deep movie… obviously
Tamsha (had to do this to you bc of ClaMpton) - any chance you could do a song Far From Heaven live by Evanescence? Amy wrote after losing her brother few years ago. I would really like to hear you break the lyrics down in your way. The live from Stephen Colbert doesn't block.❤ thx
Glad you did the acoustic version. Peace, Love!!
There is no electric version of this. Almost sure of it.
Eric Clapton was also in Cream and was in Derick and the Dominoes.
Also in : Blind Faith - John Mayall & The Blues Breakers - The Yardbirds
This is the theme song for the movie RUSH starring Jason Patrick, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Sam Elliot. 1993ish. Under cover narcotic officers who get tangled up in the mess.
Mr. Greg Allman plays the "evil" drug lord. (Allman bros singer/keyboard)
His very young son fell out a window a maid had left open while cleaning from a high-rise apartment building. Eric was on his way to pick him up.
When you know he's talking about his little boy....
... Respect...
The audio version you played is from his Unplugged concert in 1992 (part of the MTV Unplugged concert series). He is backed by his regular band, super tight, acoustic guitars, standup base, piano, and percussion. Highly recommend watching.
My mom died on what would have been their 58th anniversary, 10 months after dad.
Change the World is a good tune.
He wrote this after his 3 yr old son took a nose dive off a pent house balcony. 😢
This is about the death of Eric's 4 year old son from a horrible accident
Bless you girl
A song with a similar message of dealing with the death of a son is Craig Morgan’s “The Father, My Son and The Holy Ghost”. Equally touching songs born out of personal tragedy.
My daughter died at 12 from canser and I pray that maybe when I go God forgived me for my sins to see her again
Now you need to look up Dana Key and his song Dear Mr. Clapton .. when Dana heard about the tragic events that prompted Eric to write Tears In Heaven Dana tried calling but never could talk with Eric so he wrote that song to Eric in response to Tears In Heaven
You rightly picked up on the grief in the lyrics. I'm sure you read by now that it's about the death of Eric Clapton's son ... but it can be about anyone's personal loss, as you talked about, too.,
It would have been a surprise if you DIDN'T start sobbing.
🌸 this video really frustrates me because it doesn't give full attention to what the song is really about.....💔
The ending should be " I know I don't belong THERE in heaven" in order to make sense. I do understand your sadness though in thinking about the song's connection to your situation.
You are confusing him with the Clampetts from the Beverly Hillbillies 😂
Such a painful song. Much like Craig Morgan's Father, my Son and the Holy Ghost
The video doesn't match the song. The back story is tragic
Talk about bad taste whoever thought this should be a backtrack for some mediocre movie should have their ticket to heaven expedited
You can tell Eric Clapton doesn't know anything about heaven or God
Really? Is this necessary?
FO
I doubt you know anything about heaven or God. Evil comment, flat out evil comment on your part.
Religious bullsh*t!
