    Can't say enough about having the right control surface. I was, and still do in other studio, using an X-touch. I switched to Studio One Pro when I got a killer deal on a Studio Live 16 series 3. I am loving having true integration between DAW and control. It now reminds me more of my VS Rolands I used for years, and that's a good thing!.

    When I decided to come back to music after an 18yr break I had very specific goals in mind. After some hours of videos I picked up FL Studio 20 and I really do enjoy working with it. However... there is no real native controller support from what I've found. Third party stuff isn't very abundant.
    However, your channel has peaked my interest now in Cuebase and now that I've seen their song arranger and their song constructor... yea, I might be switching.
    Thanks for your excitement and the information you bring. It's much appreciated. Subscribed.

    Following the tracks and automatically switching bank is a VERY nice feature. My Faderport 8 doesn't do that. But it can switch to midi cc mode which I extensively use. The perfect controller doesn't exist yet. We'll get there eventually. Nice review btw .

    • @DomSigalas
      @DomSigalas  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, indeed a CC mode would be so nice with the Fader. I do a lot of orchestral arranging and this is important for me. I used to use a small QCon Platform M but in the end I ran out of space. That being said, I’ve set up the Komplete Kontrol in CC mode to work nicely for CC1, CC11 and other controllers. But I am still on the hunt for the ultimate “film composer” controller ;)

    Dom, a REQUEST! Any chance you'd make videos on (1) Recording in Cubase with your Sub 37 ... using midi and audio tracks; and (2) the best way to A/B both stock and 3rd party plugins in Cubase so the volume does NOT change and you don't fool yourself into liking changes just because you think they're louder. So simple but have not figured out how to be consistent and quick with this. Thanks, man - I'm so digging your channel.

    Serious question - Dom, I have used CC121 for years now, Cubase user. I recently installed the console 1 Fader, however it does not link with the CC121. I need the CC121 fader to keep volumes normalized, and the Console 1 Fader is totally separate entity. It controls volume SEPERATELY from the CC121, where in your video the two are connected (faders are linked). Can you point me in the right direction here? As currently, I need to have all CC121 volumes normalized, and then use Console 1 Fader as separate controller, not ideal.
    As a side note, your videos are impressive, helpful, inspiring. I struggle as a cubase user due to lack of thorough tutorials out there, and you are my number one teacher for the fine details of cubase. Thank you for all the lessons!

    Hi Dom, great video. Inspired me to also buy this combination of the CC121 and Fader. It would, however, greatly improve the workflow if one could directly jump to a specific track in cubase (e.g., track 82) without having the push the Page/Channel select buttons many times. Any thoughts on this? As far as I know this is not possible with key commands, macros, generic control? Thanks

  • @Shor8bit
    @Shor8bit 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video and merry christmas to you as I'm writing this on christmas day!
    Your video is definitely making me re-consider if I should get a C1 Fader or not. I am already a very happy Console 1 user, and I would like a multi fader setup as well. However, my issue that is holding me back is that Console 1 wont work with VCA faders in Cubase, and I wonder if you have ran into any issues, annoyances, getting slowed down by the fact that you can't control your VCA faders with Console 1?
    I bought a Behringer X-Touch One as my single fader controller to kind of get around this, as mackie control lets me control my VCA faders. However, as you pointed out, the banking is quite annoying with mackie control.
    Any comments about this to help me spend money on a fader? :D
    Do you just get by the VCA fader "issue" by using CC121 for stuff like that, and C1 Fader for the rest? (I know you can do the grouping of tracks on fader to get vca control that way, but I *really* like using my VCA faders in Cubase, and I am not one to compromise on excellent features like that in Cubase).
    Thanks for great content!

    • @DomSigalas
      @DomSigalas  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very good question! No I didn’t feel like I was missing out. First I can use the CC121 and secondly, the layers in Fader are really cool- you can do nice rides using its own VCA system. But if you don’t feel comfortable with that, there’s always the CC121 for this :) see what’s more important for you: VCAs or bank follow :)

    • @Shor8bit
      @Shor8bit 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DomSigalas Thanks for the reply! I did actually get my Console 1 Fader this week, and I'm very happy with it. I keep my mackie controller for the vcas I think for now, or at least until Steinberg potentially makes a surprise update to the CC121 hah.
      I agree the layers are incredibly useful on C1, but I guess my issue is you can't actually record that fader movement as you can with VCA Faders, and then record the affected tracks separately. But anyway, this is a luxury question by now as this works so well already. (Also lack of auto banking drives me crazy by now, but I live with it in hopes Steinberg makes it switch automatically like Logic does).

    Thx Dom for SO many eye openers and tips. Just awesome!
    Question: I get stressed out by the jumping faders on a console. Is there any way I can connect an iPad and just use the touch screen on that?
    Keep up your good work, plz :)

    • @MaidenOfMusic
      @MaidenOfMusic ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can connect an iPad to your computer and use it as a second screen, but it loses its touch functionality and acts like a regular computer monitor (kind of dumb, I know). However, ASUS is coming out with a 14" 32:9 monitor at the end of September that also has a touch screen capability. It's a long narrow monitor that fits under your main monitor and looks like the perfect size to have your mix window and faders; I'm going to wait until reviews come out and hopefully it lives up to the hype

  • @fcf8269
    @fcf8269 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice device; I like when companies make stuff that integrate without me going into settings and assign manually every button. What I do not like is that I need to have 20 different devices to control different things in a software. One example is the mixer, which works as mixer, unless you "repurpose it" as something else, by manually setting up everything. Not sure why nobody make a single device that you can seamlessly integrate in your DAW, and that works in different ways, based on the usage you have in mind.
    For example, move from a mixer to a VST controller, to a pad controller, to a filter/effects controller. Instead I am forced to either buy 4 different devices, each with its own quirks and setup to do, or to to spend hours and hours searching how to set up fewer devices, with the risk of missing creativity because I have to fiddle with a device, instead of actually getting music down on the software.
    Awesome the "kill 2 birds on one stone", I like this version better :)

      How about those icon q on things? It's not a drum machine or a keyboard. But as a mixer you can use it for whatever you want. With the software you already bought. Or stock plugins. You have motor faders and it's cheaper than the soft tube console.

      Hi Jose, I have been using the Platform M until recently actually. The QCons are amazing controllers and they were pretty much the best option but the Mackie Control bank selection issue has always been bothering me and I brought it up with the QCon guys who are really nice people. However the QCons are DAW agnostic - Console1 offers tight integration in Cubase because it’s designed to do that. This doesn’t make the QCons bad controllers but for my workflow I appreciate the tight integration in Cubase. :)

    Can Console 1 Fader control VCA fader channels in Cubase? Or can it only control audio channels? If it can control VCA faders in Cubase, then why to create layers in CF1? Better to just control the VCA fader in Cubase.

    Great one again! But also a bit confusing. Three years ago you did a video about the Icon Platform M+: "The best compact controller for production" (back then it was 'doctor mix'). That video convinced my to buy the whole Platform serie just recently (Platform M+ & B+ and 2x X+).
    But now there is this video about Console 1. Did I bought the wrong equipment?

    • @DomSigalas
      @DomSigalas  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Gert! The QCon devices are amazing controllers. I even had a Platform M until recently. You definitely didn’t purchase the wrong equipment :) Now, having said that, back then there (which was indeed years ago!) was no dedicated multi-fader controller for Cubase. The Platform was indeed the best thing I had ever tried. For MY specific workflow I always felt that the Mackie Control protocol was slowing me down for the reasons I explained on this video (bank switch thing). The Fader solves this problem and makes me work faster. That doesn’t mean that the Platform is now a bad controller :) If this issue never bothered you then you definitely don’t need to switch. THe QCons have other pluses like the LCD screens for example but the Fader1 has tighter integration and it also has a sound ;) Hope this helps!

      @@DomSigalas Great Dom, thank you very much! Deeply appreciated!
      That's why I bought M+ and 2 X+, so I have 24 faders and very little bank switching. I also have the B+ with lots of Cubase-commands. AND I have a CC121 for transport and single track control! The extra sound of the Console is of course wonderful...
      I just bought the Icon Platform's two weeks ago, so I'm still in my 60 days of return policy. After seeing your video I was thinking: 'should I send those Platform's back and order the Console in stead'...

    • @DomSigalas
      @DomSigalas  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@gertkeunen2720 I would do the ultimate test. Try it on a busy mix and see how easy you learn it, how comfortable you are with it and how often you need to reach for the mouse :) Give it 3-4 days. If you feel that you reach for your mouse all the time for actions that the QCon should perform then it might be an indication that you need a more tight integration. QCon has many bells and whistles, it can control Inserts, EQs, plugins etc etc. But the real question is - do you think you will get used to it? :)
      If the answer is yes, I would keep the QCon. If the answer is no - get a couple of Console1 Faders and stack them. It’s a more streamlined workflow with less bells and whistles but much tighter integration with Cubase.
      FYI, back in the day I had a chat with the QCon guys (who are lovely people) about the bank thing and they said that it’s a limitation of the Mackie Control protocol. I hoped that there would be a way around it but it never happened. But I understand, they are focused on the hardware and they are DAW agnostic.
      Good luck and let me know what you decided :)

    The following is because you said you were a gear geek.
    Have you tried using an iPad as a controller and sound module? There are apps that are designed to control external gear. My fave is MIDI Designer, that you can use to design your own interface, as complex as you want. It's a geek's dream app. Another very cool gadget for a guy like you is called the PUC+. Imagine that you have a fantastic controller that is NOT Bluetooth. Take the cable that you would connect to the computer into the PUC+ and then pair the PUC+ with the Bluetooth of your computer. And then you have a Bluetooth controller. Actually you can leave the PUC+ always plugged into the controller and use it as a Bluetooth controller to pair with any Bluetooth compatible synth or whatever. Or let the PUC+ be always paired with the computer or iPad or anything that accepts Bluetooth MIDI. Then you can swap out controllers by changing which controller is plugged into the PUC+. So if you become a Wireless lover, no need to spend money on all new controllers, just get a PUC+ for the number of simultaneous controllers you use. Once you have them, you can save a ton of money by buying used wired controllers instead of the $$$$ wireless ones. And the PUC+ works perfectly and is very reliable, solid. It stays connected and is hard to break. It's made of thick plastic. Shit, I just realized that I sound like I am advertising a product. That's just because I am excited about some thing that gives me so much fun and is so convenient. Ok, enough of that. Thanks for your video. You make very easy to understand videos.you speak perfect English but insensé an accent that i don't know. What is your first language? I travelled a lot when I was much younger and tended to take the accents of anyone I met on the road. So when I came home, my friends laughed, saying that I sound like English is not my first language. Have fun, Dom. Oh yeah, I don't have Cubase. I use Live by Ableton and Reaper. My fave synth plugins are Serum and Falcon 2. Hahaha. Funny because it's not true. I love so many synths but those are the ones I know best
