Last year someone advertised a box of computer bits for £5. The box was marked "For the tip", it contained an Acorn Atom, VIC 20 & tape deck, Amiga 500 and Atari 2600 Jnr. I gave the lady £100 who was as happy as I was 😍 Once in a lifetime find.

I have the thumbnail testing feature on my TH-cam account. Not sure if it helps, but you can upload two or three thumbnails and it will eventually settle on the one that gets the most clicks

Hi Mark, the BBC micro was used a lot by radio hams hence why you have a morse training program, in the day we used them as a packet radio terminal linked to our radios and sent games over the air (not pirate copy’s of course 🤣🤣) it was the early days of packet radio using ax25 protocol they were and are a truly amazing computer. Had some great games Elite 2 colour on the standard machine or if you had the 2nd processor add on it was 4 colour as well as a pleather of other great games one called Frak brilliant find 👍👍

Hi. The dip switches on the keyboard will set the mode that the beeb will boot into, thats why it changed mode when fiddling with the keyboard connection.
There's links/switches on the keyboard PCB that select the screen mode at boot - if the keyboard ribbon/connection is dodge-city, then that'll explain the random mode changes
Hi mark, execlent haul, a BBC issue 3 PCB with a liner PSU it's an early model, the BBC wanted all BBC's to have a liner PSU so there was no interferance from a switch mode PSU to upset there delicate broadcast equipment! but fiscal concerns forced a cheaper Switch Mode PSU to be the norm. as already noted, random power up mode possibly keyboard ribbon cable or one of the keyboard logic chips, plenty of documents / service manuls avaiable online to help solve the issues your bound to come across! looking forward to the next video. We used to have a Rediffusion building in Hull not too far from where I used to live, and the house we moved in to in the 90's still has the cabaling for Rediffusion comming in to it today. Found it a couple of years ago when there was a rewire done.
The floppy disks look like they came from a Lucas Nascom 3. At least they're identical to ones I had with my Nascom as kid. I also used my drives on a BBC B.
Love a good old Beeb. One of the best things about buying a random loft find is that they are a complete mystery until you open them up and maybe discover a wonder of various add-on ROMs and expansions.

I know it has the old revision PSU and I can’t wait to capture the magic smoke in action 😂 I think I count 3 videos in the last month? You are really spoiling us! (Not sarcasm, genuine happy!)

Great pickup and its alway worth saving a BBC Micro and rare to find with such accesorries these days. I still have nightmares from many years ago throwing a load in a skip from a school i had to clear out :( /cry
I know the feeling you're talking about at the start with the urge, even when I was completely struggling to feed myself I'd sometimes go down the skips and have a poke around just to try and find a "project". They have security that'd probably chuck you out if you went these days, but you could honestly find working old tellies, video recorders and game consoles, or stuff that just needed some trivial fix. If it was worse than that, I'd just put it back and hopefully someone who knew better than me would find it. Was often a good way to earn an easy £20 if you got one in good enough nick and found a buyer, but back then it was usually pretty easy to find someone wanting a TV or video or their kids room.

I'd really love a BBC micro, they look really nice and sadly they're thin on the ground here in the US for obvious reasons. First I saw of one was a master that Vince Clark used with some now-obscure and unobtanium hardware gizmo to sequence his synthesizers in a documentary. One day when I have the space again I'll find a helpful Brit to shepherd one to me. For now, I have an MSX2 to come to grips with.
Looks a nice set, the RH lightpen is reputed to be one of the best lightpens available for the beeb. If you getbit running i wouldn't mind a copy of the programs from its cassette as mine no longer reads :(
Fantastic haul of what must have been a huge expenditure when new. I'm sure a clever person like you will get it all sorted. By the way, maybe you don't have a disease, maybe you have a hobby. Hobbies are very important. Surely you cant 'get rid' of all those things behind you, I don't believe it.
That mains plug is nowhere near as bad as the tat on Amazon where they think it's clever to sleeve the earth pin as well 😂 I even had one where the live and neutral pins looked normal but I broke one in half and just found a thin wire inside the plastic shroud to the top. 😮
I don't suppose you know where I can find paint that will match the finish on cub monitors, I've got about 10 cubs but some of them have had a very hard life and need repainted urgently.

Commenting half way through the vid (you might have answered it already yourself), but the boot screen mode is set by the dip switches on the bottom right of the keyboard, if the ribbon is funky, you'll may well get random values on that.

I used to work for Rediffusion in a TV repair workshop and don't ever remember seeing one of those Monitors. Also £95 for all that gear.....you lucky ba@tard (as Monty Python would say) :)
@@MarkFixesStuff Yea, you maybe correct. What I can remember was that the Rediffusion colour tv model's were the MK1, MK3 and they had just started bringing in the MK4's. The Mono Chrome model's were the MK10, MK11 and MK13's. Although this is going back some 40 years, so I might not be completely accurate. It was during a Saturday morning overtime session that I got to play (test) a VIC 20. Also I remember during the lunch hour we would play the Hobbit on one of these new fangled ZX Spectrum's.

Not sure it should be in there unless you are using the software. I am guessing, as I don't know for sure). Rediffusion and ABC merged to form Thames, LWT was a completely separate company. Just saying!
LWT was formed from other ex Rediffusion employees after the merger that created Thames. Interesting fact: My wife’s uncle was a set designer for Thames. Philip Blowers.

As far as I can find out, the Rediffusion Plinth connector only works with a Rediffusion telebox which inputted RF on a base frequency of 8.9MHz.
This would actually make a lot of sense due to the history behind Rediffusion, and their history with cable broadcast TV. I think I’ve been looking in the wrong way. Thank you Phil!

Great pickup mark i really like the crt monitor .I think the modern 4;3 aspect ratio lcd,s tv,s are well worth adding to any retro collection .
The 4:3 lcd is just so easy to use for a quick test. Easier to film as well to be honest.

The screen mode can be controlled from the dip switches on the keyboard, as can the seek times for the disks.

I thought that too, but this particular PSU didn’t suffer from the RIFA issue, and Mark H from Retro Clinic says he doesn’t do anything to these.
Not sure which type of power supply is in mine as I've never opened the case.

I used to work for Rediffusion in a TV repair workshop and don't ever remember seeing one of those Monitors. Also £95 for all that gear.....you lucky ba@tard (as Monty Python would say) :)
I’ve never seen one of these before. I think they were sold with the BBC maybe? Not sure. It’s Hitachi in reality I think.
@@MarkFixesStuff Yea, you maybe correct. What I can remember was that the Rediffusion colour tv model's were the MK1, MK3 and they had just started bringing in the MK4's. The Mono Chrome model's were the MK10, MK11 and MK13's. Although this is going back some 40 years, so I might not be completely accurate. It was during a Saturday morning overtime session that I got to play (test) a VIC 20. Also I remember during the lunch hour we would play the Hobbit on one of these new fangled ZX Spectrum's.

Just saying!
LWT was formed from other ex Rediffusion employees after the merger that created Thames.

You might need gallons of rubbing alcohol to get all these items clean. I'm surprised you could handle these items with your bare hands.
