  • Thank you for watching, this is a video tutorial on how to replace the fuel pump on a 1999-2007 Gen 1 Ford Focus for north America. The European and world versions should be very similar or identical to the procedure we performed here. Make sure to wear gloves and wear eye protection when working with gasoline.

    Next we need to check for debris @11:40 with a flashlight - totally clear flakes of debris swimming around, totally ignored. WTF? (doo doo dee doo elevator music) "Oh yes, I checked the debris - it's still going to be there too!"
    Great video, but I think I may use the tinsnips under the rear seat method instead.

    I have a 2000 Ford Focus ZTS, that before I got it someone must have replaced the fuel pump. and they must have not been all that mechanically inclined, and now after watching this video I can get an idea what they did. because when I try to full the tank very much it leaks the fuel from the top of the tank, from what I could see looking under the car. and the fuel gauge is not accurate, it runs out of fuel at a quarter of a tank. but now after seeing this video I can see that they possibly didn't get the seal installed right if at all. and they either bent the sending unit float rod, or got it where it's hanging up on the baffles in the tank. mine is a little bit different it has a plastic tank. I'm going drop the tank and inspect everything and check that the sending unit is operating properly. I hope they didn't destroy the seal, if they did I'm curious if a person can get the seal by it self? thanks for posting this video this gives me a better idea what to look for, and what to do on my Focus.

    • @2carpros
      @2carpros  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Well you are being given the worst price for the unit its self I can count on that. The work amount per hour differs state to state and dealer VS garage. $589 does seem steep. You could buy the fuel pump your self off of Amazon or Rockauto then just have them put it in. That way you are only paying for the labor.

    • @adzz8012
      @adzz8012 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cost of genuine pump in Australia is $700 after market ones are $350ish basically your paying 2 hours labour. 20-30 mins diagnosis time plus 90 mins for the job seems about right to me.

    OR someone could cut a fuel pump access from above, and do his job WHENEVER he has to, without paying huge amount of money just for all this work load, to change the pump. . . . I know many people having done so.

    Expect the owner of the vehicle to complain about a buzzing noise he didn't have prior the fitting of the new pump.The possible buzzing sound is caused because you failed to transfer from the old unit to the new one,the three rubber insulating feet on the base of the old unit.These should be part of the new supplied pump but they never are,I speak from experience.
