    I cut a service hole under the back seat to access the pump. I then made a cover and attached weather stripping around the perimeter. I secured it with self tapping metal screws. Great job I must say!

      Every german car I ever had used an access panel back there, makes this a half hour job you can do in the rain. I'm going to cut an access panel, map the cut out piece on some sheet metal, bolt them together. Change the fuel pump, coat the bottom of the circle with silicone gasket goop, stick it back over the hole, then screw it down with self tappers.

      My pump started hesitating at 247k miles. Dropped the tank, changed the pump (old pump had the sticker Nov 2004) changed it for a Napa pump, the sending unit failed after 5 miles. The filler and evap hoses were awful lmao. I'm debating making an access panel

      @@blazedwolf82 Mine is at 172k miles.. no issues. I only drive it in the winter and less 10k miles a year so probably won't have that issue anytime soon. I fill up early too as the pump works harder when the tank is empty. On the other hand the a/c has issues and battery goes more often from standing all summer. I got a trickle charger now for battery and the A/C I'll have to get a new compressor its leaking, last time was the dryer. I hear bearings also go from car standing :/

      I've already had to replace all three motor mounts alternate fuel filter fuel pump PCV valve PCB hose a new battery and a fuel rail pressure sensor and after doing all of that and modding the air filter I feel like it was good investment because it never really broke down the entire time and all in all and getting it legal and doing everything I've put around two grand into it and just be leery of those piece of s*** lug nuts and yeah be prepared to work on a car that is difficult to get in and out of if you have tools none of it's impossible.

    Why didn't you just put the hoses back in the way you took them off, with the tank down?

    • @FixingWithPassion
      @FixingWithPassion  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They were very short hoses. When the tank was off the hoses would not reach back to the tank, only when the tank was up they would reach.

I waited a bit then tried to turn it on again but then heard the sound of some thing spilling on the ground. I stop what I’m doing look under the car and on the back right the side you put the gas in,all my gas was just pouring out. Can you give me an idea of what the heck happened 😅

      It’s possible that one of the clips that held the hose on the fuel filter failed. They are cheap brittle plastic. If a twig or branch was to hit it at the right angle and speed I betcha it could rip an old one under the stress. I would start looking there first.
