I thought it could have been interesting, but it was way too rushed, and the themes and dialogue were way too overt. Everyone just spelled out how they felt, and Dooku was just like, “Okay.”
There were some good moments, but they didn’t really give it time to breath

@@thedapperdolphin1590 they used the tell don't show because it's a show with a younger target demographic. Kids won't be able to pick up on subtle messages. Like, for example, we were shown Ahsoka training against clones and any older fan knows the point of being shown that is to show that that ultimately saved her life during Order 66, but kids need to be shown it or else they won't pick up on it. Same with Dooku leaving because of corruption in the senate and the Jedi playing into the hands of it all, it has to be said so the younger audience understands, but it was still done organically and does not take away from the episodes whatsoever.

    • @TheRealCodeBlack
      @TheRealCodeBlack ปีที่แล้ว +46

I think in the end we see that the Jedi aren't corrupt, but badly complacent.
Dooku accuses them of taking orders from the senate, but that's untrue: even in his stories every single tale has other Jedi besides himself see the plight the galaxy is going through and immediately agree with him that something must be done against the Senate (even Mace's response is "we need to do something, but we have to do it by the book," while Dooku just goes Dirty Harry).
His conclusion that the Jedi are under the senate's thumb is misplaced. The truth is that the Jedi simply don't bother to understand the galaxy enough to actually know these things are happening in the first place - they cautiously sit on their laurels, rarely investigate problems, and act behind their excuse that they "don't' do politics" and thus don't actually engage, so instead they get taken by surprise whenever something horrible is dropped into their lap. Their oath to protect the people becomes useless because they don't know the people any more.
The Jedi *would* go to bat for the common people against the Senate if they were aware of what's going on, but they're too distant from the rest of the galaxy to even become aware of these injustices most of the time, so they do nothing and the rest of the galaxy sees them as complicit rather than more truthfully ignorant to the problem (that the Jedi aren't aware that the rest of the galaxy has a poor opinion of them is a thing in The Clone Wars as well).

    • @calmxi
      @calmxi ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@TheRealCodeBlack the Jedi are not all powerful, they are not in control of the galaxy. Did this series depict the Jedi order as corrupt? If anything it shows the very opposite. Mace is true to protocols and rules to a fault, and that is the flaw in the Jedi order and that is the opposite of corruption. Even higher up in the ranks of the Jedi, we see Yaddle our representatives of the council on this series is anything but corrupt and possesses the true spirit of a Jedi. She is forgiving, courageous, selfless and gentle. The problem with the Jedi order is not corruption, but dogma.

At 15:28 here, when Bail was telling the Shocktroopers (so Ahsoka would hear) that if they need anything, they should call him, I had what I think is a clever idea: When the Empire starts purging the clones for use of recruited troops, it would be interesting for Organa to get a call from one of those guys asking for safe haven. Organa would have to take a moment to remember what the hell they're talking about, and then decide if he wants to help one of the early oppressors or not.
And yes, I think he would end up helping. That would also give us an "in" for another old-timer clone out there somewhere trying to do some good to pay homage to his rescuer.

These shorts remind me of the old days where we would get stories set in between the major ones, and add more personal time with the characters. Knowing Ahsoka visited Padme's funeral, Dooku's last day as a Jedi, it just feels so good to have these smaller stories happen.
I hope this will get a season two. We could explore different Jedi from different eras as well. Maybe give us Luke meeting Snoke for the first time, or have Finn meet Jedi spirits. That would be awesome in this animation style.

I’m sure that some people will get upset over Yaddle speaking normally rather than backwards like Yoda.
But far I know that can be Yoda only thing rather than a quirk of his species. Because the ones we saw in the Old Republic era were also speaking in a normal way, unlike Yoda.

I really enjoyed these shorts... not many problems with it but I think that the first ep was very weak and cliche, especially compared to the Dooku stuff which I adored. The first 2 Dooku episodes were great but I personally would've preferred they were a bit more different. Its basically the same thing in a different skin.
The Sith Lord is obviously the best episode.
I really liked the 2nd Ahsoka episode, mainly due to the ending plus a montage is always welcomed. Its simple but very effective. I was a huge mess. Lol. The last Ahsoka one was decent too but again kinda cliche.
Stunning visuals and great score as always and I find it funny how they used Grogu sound effects for baby Ahsoka.
    Overall 8.5/10

I loved all the episodes. The Dooku episodes were definitely my favourite for similar reasons, we have spent significantly more time with Ahsoka but I did feel like I learned more about her. Seeing a character's origins is always cool and I love the irony that it was Anakin that ultimately helped her survive Order 66 by pitting her against Rex and the Clones in training. That was my favourite of the Ahsoka episodes. I feel like it's not getting enough credit here because there's a lot going on there. The fact that when Ahsoka finally perfects the training, it's Rex's shots that surprise and take her down. That works so well with how they both react to Order 66. Ahsoka can't imagine Rex turning on her and in a way she's right and that was demonstrated so effectively. Seeing Padmé's funeral again was painful and seeing Ahsoka in the crowd as well as Bail and Mon Mothma.
I LOVED everything with Dooku though. Even just seeing his signature curved lightsaber with a beautiful blue blade was awesome and I loved his outfit too. It felt very Jedi but also very Dooku because I've always felt like he's had his own style. They really nailed young Dooku in this series. I loved seeing his interactions with Qui-Gon as master and apprentice and how much it paralleled with Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan, then Obi-Wan and Anakin and Anakin and Ahsoka, the whole lineage. I empathised with Dooku a lot in the situations he found himself in and understood his character more. He was already one of my favourite villains but this show just added so much to him. While I don't blame the Jedi as they face intense political pressure in situations, I also don't blame him at all for feeling frustrated or for losing his cool in his first episode. It all lands firmly with the corrupt Senators. It was so interesting to explore that. I would happily welcome more content surrounding Dooku in this era.
Seeing Yaddle was so awesome. Bryce Dallas Howard did a fantastic job playing her and the voice was perfect. It was so fun actually hear her speaking and in correct syntax unlike Yoda (although I have my headcanons and theories as to why). And her duel with Dooku was so cool and everything about their interactions was fantastic. I loved when she tells him she resigned from the Council because of what happened with Qui-Gon. It got me so emotional as did her final moments. I am kinda disappointed that she was killed off as soon as she got some spotlight, especially since there were previous hints she survived until the time of the Clone Wars at least. I think I prefer her death in Legends but this still made for a gutpunching story. Once she saw Dooku meeting with Sidious, I knew where it was going.
I was rooting for her survival even though I knew it was impossible. I definitely want to know what happened afterwards

-In the timeline Dooku has already left the Order by his third episode, but everybody treating him like he’s still part of the community and being oblivious to his betrayal is so heart wrenching.
-l think they should move the Ahsoka Novel to Legends. A lot has been retconned or seemingly retconned and giving Legends Ahsoka something to do after leaving the Order would be nice.

I took the emotional weight of Yaddle’s olive branch a little differently.
She offers him a chance to make up for his “crimes”, referring to his collusion with a Sith against the republic/Jedi. But I think this offer is what finalized Dooku’s fall.
Dooku’s guilt isn’t over his betrayal of the Order; it’s over his betrayal of his own integrity. He feels complicit in the Senate’s corruption, and it’s oppression of the citizens he swore to protect. We only saw two missions; how many more times did Dooku have to witness institutional failure?
Yaddle thought she was offering redemption. And she could have, if she’d said “Together, we can change the course of the Order and the Senate, without turning to the dark side.” Instead, all she offered was a reminder that Sidious was his only option for redeeming himself in his own eyes.

I think you might have underestimated the significance of the episode ‘Practice Makes Perfect’.
It’s about how we could be put though at times frustrating situations and experiences which could seem ‘ridiculous’ - as Ashoka commented - or unfair, but it all happened to train up our muscle and character for the bigger challenge for which you will need them.
The moment Anakin explained the real purpose of the training to Ashoka I understood the significance of the episode.
At first, it seemed like a frustrating and unnecessary form of training. Then, it started to make bit of sense and actually enabled Ashoka to be a great warrior in the field. But the true purpose of all those hours being stunned over and over again really paid off in Order 66 where she would not have been able to stand her ground had it wasn’t for the training.
Sometimes in life you simply don’t know what the mundane is building towards.

  • @locochoify

For "Practice makes perfect", I loved how it works to show why the Jedi were defeated by the clones. Sure, they were outnumbered, but also shows how the 501 were trained to overwhelm the Jedi and will eventually defeat them. Even Ashoka, padawan for Anakin, could only survive for a few minutes in direct combat, so not much more could be expected by the rest of the Jedi.
Might not be the best episode, but seeing how Anakin trained Ashoka taught to be ready against any and all possible enemy, even their friends clones themselves.
Other than that, yes, all Dookus episodes were fantastic and makes me wish we get to see more of the unique characters in Star Wars, Jedi or not.

But the real question: Did the show retcon Obi-Wan's hair? Because the episode where Anakin trains Ahsoka to fight the clones clearly happens after the Clone Wars movie, but Obi-Wan still has his long hair from AOTC despite the Clone Wars movie showing him with his ROTS hair already.

Dooku becomes that much more of a likeable character for me. You saw his frustration with how The Republic was so corrupt and how the Jedi were becoming pawns for the senate. The order betrayed what they original stood for. Dooku became a Sith Lord yeah, but he did it for what he thought would eventually lead to peace through the galaxy and would end corruption (as we see during Palpatine's rule, that still didn't change and in many ways got worse). In the end Dooku cared and his line about Qui-Gon in Attack of the Clones is really going feel different now.

  • @BenChanNYC

It's been interesting seeing the themes presented here between Ahsoka and Dooku - and it's making me think of "Andor" as well. To me, the question I'm seeing asked is, "which is the correct path and what is the correct way to walk it?" To me, Dooku's stories ask the question and Ahsoka's stories answer it. (TL:DR *One must constantly work at change but to do it with compassion.* )
*--Dooku* sees how corruption leads to suffering and how the Jedi are failing the people. We can sympathize with his position and the changes he wants to see. However, as SW has always taught, and reiterated during Master Katri's funeral when she was praised for her "patience", the Dark Side is faster - easier. Dooku reminds me of Luthen - pushing for change from the shadows and similarly willing to sacrifice many lives to enact that change. (to quote Dedra, "Systems either change or die" and we saw that happen to the Jedi) So Dooku was right, but he went about it the wrong way - the fastest way, and lost his compassion in the process.(he became the axe that forgets the trees)
*--Ahsoka* is taught from the beginning to understand balance - she just saw her mother as the hunter, so when confronted with the Tiger, she sees another hunter and sympathizes. She will never be an axe that forgets the tree because she sees both sides. In the last episode, she tries to run and hide - to be neutral, (as does Andor) but that doesn't work as being uninvolved only allows the Empire to spread. So she joins the fight for change. Ultimately then the answer I got about which path to walk and how to walk it is this: *One must constantly work at change but to do it with compassion.*

I didn't catch the parallels between Dooku and Ahsoka with them both leaving the Jedi Order. When it comes to the shorts though, Dooku's were superior because there was depth and Ahsoka's felt more superficial and just as something to explain the "plotholes" of Clone Wars and Rebels. I'd have much rather seen her stop the Inquisitor on a journey of exploring the Force herself and then we see her purifying the crystals to make her white lightsabers. Even though that would also be unnecessary, it is at least showing use of the Force in a unique way we haven't on screen and maybe there's some commentary on how even in darkness, the world can be made light again with proper care or something. The short felt mostly like what Obi-Wan just did in his own show, but Ahsoka, although having doubts at the end of the Clone Wars never felt like she'd truly give up doing good, she just wouldn't be running around with a lightsaber while helping lead the Rebels.
I don't know, I'd say keep the one with her as a baby, but I didn't feel the need to do the other two shorts with her, we could have focused on other Jedi. Or compile all of Dooku's into a 45 minute special and have a different Jedi in a different era with each short. Eckharts Ladder mentioned that Visions did a better job at telling Tales of the Jedi like with F in The Village Bride, and I think he's absolutely right. New character we've never seen, has the same type of journey that Ahsoka did in Resolve, but it was also all about the Force. We need more shorts about the emotions and actions of the Jedi like the Dooku stories and less just superficial backstory. At least that's how I felt. Ahsoka as a baby works, it's why it's the first episode, every Jedi will show some signs of Force Sensitivity and so while the experience will always be different, it's neat to see how a village reacts to a future Jedi being among them. After that, we could have seen so much more with differnt Jedi and their tales, and I'd love to see more, but as it stands, I think the future lives and dies on how well received the Dooku stories are and what demand there is for other eras.
Tarre Vizsla, Old Republic, High Republic, Anakin and Obi-Wan between Episodes I and II, survivors of the purge, Luke after Return of the Jedi, young Ben, even Broom Boy would be neat, there's absolutely potential in all the different eras, and I think that even though this was advertised to be all about Dooku and Ahsoka, maybe it should have been more diverse like Visions and in the future we could have narrowed in on specific characters to get more focus than others. It makes sense to go for familiar faces first, but I'm all Ahsoka'd out, especially in this time period and her stories definitely show that we've mined the character as much as we can, at least at this point in her life. If it's not revealed in the Ahsoka series, maybe we could have had a more specific exploration for what happened in the cave on Malichor if we absolutely must focus on Ahsoka. More Force related journeys for her than explaining how she survived Order 66.
On the whole I'd say half to two thirds of the stories worked, so we'll see what the future holds.
