- I'm bummed. The Springfield 2020 is not living up to expectations. As of this video going live, I have contacted Springfield and they advised me to send it in to the warranty department. They will have it for 3 to 6 weeks. I'm not sure what Springfield can do exactly, but maybe something is out of spec?
Special thanks to @timneytriggers!

00:00 Introduction
01:24 Trigger Issues
03:48 At the Range
07:54 Recap - บันเทิง
I have been a Gunsmith(Firearm Solutions Gun Repair ) for just about 50 yrs have installed over a hundred Timney Triggers, even with Remington 700 rifles the stocks have to be altered because the Timney Trigger pack is wider and longer then the OEM triggers also the trigger guard has to be opened up for the wider Timney trigger
My 700 stock did not have to be altered at all. The 2020 rimfire trigger "mounting" isnt even close to what the timney is
I bought the Springfield 2020 22lr and upgraded the trigger to a Triggertech Rem 700 Diamond. Yes, I had to modify the stock a little with a Dremel Tool for the safety lever. I adjusted it down to 10 -12 ounces and reassembled the rifle. I can't comment on accuracy because of all the rain we've had in Texas this Spring. You're certainly correct. Rem 700 triggers are not drop in at all.
Appreciate an honest review 👌
Thanks!
I put a Timney “the hit” trigger in mine and it works great. Not sure what you did wrong but it’s definitely a rem 700 trigger. And at 8 ounces it’s amazing!
I have a savage a17 17 mach 2 on order ,,,,,,,,,a little while ago online i saw a Springfield 2020 with a AAA walnut stock for the first time and thought dang i should have ordered that instead.....Thanks to your video i feel better now..
2 things I see that vould cause those sporatic groups.
1. The clamp on the barrel..for a free floating barrel having it strapped down defeats the purpose of free floating
2. The scope is mounted too high, the line of sight needs to be closer to the bore of the rifle.
It was tested with 6 optic configurations and 3 different rests. Nothing changed the results. The scope height is not an accuracy concern
Take it out of the stock and show us how its bedded, recoil lug or back of the receiver or just receiver screws etc . How is it headspaced, by bolt handle or lugs in bolt etc. Want to see if it is worth purchasing just to play with as a personal challenge. I assume they can build a barrel and there are no obvious defects which wouldn't have been caught but who knows. It has to be something as it seems to have so much potential. A detailed viewing of the bolt, handle, headspace control and bolt face and the the underside of the rifle and the inside of the stock would be greatly appreciated. Maybe you can make a What goes wrong with rimfires episode. Hopefully the bad reviews will sink the price and make my purchase less risky. Thanks for the honest review.
Thanks for watching. My rifle is still at springfield getting looked at. I'm not sure what they are going to do, but there will be an update video
Trigger tech Remington 700 Primary 1.5-4.0 pound trigger works fine, except for minimal stock work at the safety lever.
You do realize having that strap over your barrel isn’t helping you in the least. That’s rifleman shit 101 bro!
Its not meant to help accuracy. Its not even tight lol. A free floating barrel should not be strapped down
I got a new gun that was worse than that. It was the Brazilian Rossi Rio Bravo lever action. First trip to the range the barrel started chipping and cracking in the muzzle.
I actually had insane groups with the aguila super you used. I was getting .75 .50 groups at 50yrds butttt everything else is horrible. Makes me believe the barrel is too tight or too loose
It's sad, wonder if you could bed the blocks and get it a tuner. I buy it from you if I get a deal. Any how did you get more SK ammo at the shop yet?
Springfield is getting it for 3 to 6 weeks. Not sure what they're gonna do. Sk hasnt been available for months and months
You do know the 700 trigger that comes with the gun is fully adjustable. I to mine down to 1.1 lbs.. No for sure if people release this. It’s an awesome trigger when tuned. Just in case you didn’t know.
Springfield tells you not to adjust it to anything below 4 pounds
Do you drive the speed limits too? It is only what they suggested for litigations with lawyers.@@DirtbagOutdoors
@@Phish45 do you drive your car with 1 lug nut on each wheel?
I am glad these reviews are out there. They have saved a lot of people disappointment and money.
Mine is being delivered tomorrow from Springfield repair. Stay tuned.
This is a free-floating barrel by clamping down on the barrel do you think that affects the accuracy or is it just the junk ammunition
It’s not the ammo or the strap that isn’t even tight or anything. Video soon where I shoot $25 per box 22 and it still shoots over an inch at 50. It just sucks.
I could walk underneath that scope. Do you have zoning for that ?
I needed the moa adjustment for long range shooting. Unfortunately, it can’t shoot past 25 yards.
It seems like it would have been a good idea to shoot some of the other ammo that shot well previously as a baseline to compare the new ammo too.
The ammo that shot well in the last video hasn't been able to shoot well since
@@DirtbagOutdoors well thats sad
@@davidleatham296 indeed
@@DirtbagOutdoors I know of a 2020 being tested that has shot pretty well with the right ammo shooting full 10 shot groups at 50 measuring .5 to .6 but the best ammo for the gun was not what was expected. Lol...one of the best was a Lapua brand that has been out of production for many years. We will also soon see one with a full custom barrel that I am very curious about. Of course that blows the whole $400 gun out of the water, but it wll be fun to see what happens.
@@davidleatham296 i think it should do that all day with most ammo. At least an inch or under. Mine is currently at springfield to be looked at
what's a good starter rifle for getting into long range shooting i love sling shots and bows but i wanna get into long shots 😮🎉
Depends on the range. 223 is a good starting point. 308 will get you out to 1000 yards or so
Please contact Springfield, and let us know how they respond. Thank you!
Already did. There’s a video on it. They had it for month and nothing changed
Action screw check the torque possibly try 18 pounds. Somewhere in that range and for god's sakes take the barrel strip off.
I have run hundred of rounds through my SPFD 2020 and it is not very accurate. What I found was shooting Lapua CenterX, SKRM and Eley Match and Tenex that at best I got maybe a group or two that went .5* inches and with the lots of ammo that worked best repeating 5 shot groups the average was .8 inches with a range of groups from .7 to 1.3. Realize thats premium ammo giving you mundane results.
Its a shame. Mine is currently at springfield being looked at. Im curious about what theyre gonna say
Interesting to hear what they say. @@DirtbagOutdoors
@couespursuit7350 i will definitely make an update video
ruger precision rimfire outshoot this all day
My beat up old mossbergs outshoot it
That scope is way to high bud.
If S.A. doesn't make the gun right, you should try working on the crown.
Another thing is the cheek weld is going to be shitty with tall rings and scope set up. Fix it right maybe you will shoot a lot better.
Its been tested with about 6 different optic setups.
I highly recommend sending it back in and getting a new barrel then another video. They answer their phone immediately but don’t try their chat or email 😂.
It's currently at springfield for them to look at!
Very frustrating ,you have all the pistol TH-camrs praising the Springfield echelon , but the Springfield 2020 is bad ?
Springfield should have sent the barrel blanks to savage to be rifled. It's a nice looking rifle and it's a shame it shoots so poorly!
Springfield didn’t make anything on this. It’s made by Retay and just has Springfield’s name. Similar to the xd pistols
I love honest reviews. Far too many TH-camrs have been praising this piece of junk.
Thank you! I definitely want to be genuine in the reviews and tests
I've watched a few videos on this rifle and none of them are praising it at all. I must be subscribed to different reviewers than you because none have recommended getting the 2020. I am always looking for a decent 22 when they come out and I am definitely staying away from this one.
The remington 700 triggers work fine. You need one without the bolt release. Unscrew the trigger hanger, remove the pins Reinsert the pins with your new trigger, reinstall the trigger hanger and test. I have a trigger tech diamond in mine. That being said mine doesn’t shoot well either. Playing with action screw torque improved it a little but not much. I’m going to play with the bolt soon.
@@nathanthigpen08 mine is back from repair. It still sucks. I’m gonna get rid of it and move on.
Sucks your rifle is shooting that bad I have one and with CCI green tag or regular and Eley match I’m getting sub moa at 50 yards and at 100 yards I’ve been seeing a lot of hit or miss with these rifles
This looks isn’t a 1911 where one feels compelled to immediately tweak (f*ck) with it. A rifle should be good to go out of the box. My 2001 Marlin 39 shot 3/4” at 50 yards, out of the box with Remington Thunderbolt. I would expect better from Springfield.
Yea, it sucks. Another item with their name on but they don’t even make it.
Bitch all you want but my Walnut stock 2020 shoots great and put a Bergara 700 trigger I had laying around. Works great, only tweaking was the safety lever. Rebending it just took a little time. Aquila ammo and CCi Minimags is very good and I can hit 1.5" steel gong at 100 all day which is fine for hunting and killing critters.
Glad you got a good one. 👍
Hi. I bought one just because there have been so many bad reviews! I guess I'm just a masochist,
First thing I did was borescope the bbl. Looked pretty good. Ran just a couple of patches with JB bore paste. I put a Timmeny trigger on it. Yes, the stock needs a little Dremel work, but it breaks like an icicle at 1.5 lbs.
I mounted a good scope on it and got on paper from my 35 yard bench. Only shot a couple of dozen groups due to 106 degree heat here in Fl. I was very pleased with the results with good 'ole CCI SV ammo.
I also have a tricked out Tikka T1X and a new CZ 457 MTR. Once I break the 2020 in and try some of the huge variety of ammo I've stockpiled, I know it will come around. I have the gray/black model as well.
Heck, I even bought a Ruger LRT 22 just because it is has also been deemed a POS. I like a challenge and it also shoots to my satisfaction. YMMV
I guess I need to go buy a lottery ticket, because my luck has been great!!
@@user-rg5cn1ue4thow did you get a Timney in there? There was a zero percent chance of one going in mine.
It’s hard to beat a Savage bolt action.22 and at a fraction of the price of that Springfield!
I should get one of the cheap mark ii rifles and test!
Your review of this rifle is very much like almost everyone else's. Not a single review of the 2020 rimfire is good.. this rifle is not on my list any longer. Its to bad because i really liked the way it looks but i dant want a rifle that wont shoot.
The scope rings height and the big holes in the ear lobes does not give confidence in your judgement about this rifle. Come on son, its time for you to pull your head out of your arse and get with the program. You can still make a difference on your channel if you straighten up and fly right.
What a shame.
For sure
They are cheap Turkish made guns pumped out for volume, not precision.
Not even really that cheap, though. I have far cheaper rifles that out shoot this "target" rifle
Umm what? This comment doesn't make sense. There are cheaper rifles shooting better than the 2020. This rifle's parts are actually quality. It just shoots like shit.
the stock is fairly flexy and shitty, and the barrel is actually shit.... and the trigger is not great either... so what's good? The receiver? These are cheap Turkish rifles that Springfield slaps their name on and charges big big margins on. By cheap I am inferring to the build quality and overall rifle, not the price tag Springfield charges. @@bad_vaporizer
AH HA.... that is the catch. It is a cheap Turkish made gun that Springfield slaps their name on and charges significantly more money on. By cheap, I am mostly referring to the quality and what the rifle is... not the price tag Springfield charges for it. The case is nice... I will admit that. lol. @@DirtbagOutdoors After Josh was having issues with his, decided to buy one myself just to see how bad it is. Have not shot it yet, but not impressed with how it is out of the box. Works with Ruger 10 round mags but not BX-25. Barrel scuffed up from factory. Action is smooth, but stock is flimsy shit that has tons of flex. Crown was a tad scuffed too.
