I'll be using this as well, and since my shelf layout will be 24" wide, and the first portion will be 16' long on one wall, I can have the store rip the foam into 2 pieces 2' x 8' so it'll fit in my SUV. Easy to paint up, carve up and make ditches, etc. Will glue track direct to the painted foam. Thanks for the video, looking good!

Matt, sorry for the late reply. The turntable is from PECO a On30 plastic kit. Not sure if they still make them...check Walthers, Amazon, or other train/hobby retailers to find out...Good luck on your new layout!!

I subscribed today. Your layout is looking good. My own On30 layout is coming along slowly, but surely. I am taking my time. I am almost to the scenery stage. Our 5 year old grandson will be visiting with us the July. He wants to run trains with Papa Choo-choo. One of the things we will do is visit the Alligator Farm down South of Alexandria, LA. We will get to watch feeding time. There are some big gators that come up out of the water to slap the side of the pontoon boat while reaching for a chicken. You need a gator jumping up out of the water.

To cut foam with zero mess, I took the edge of a putty knife and ran the side edge of it through a knife sharpener until razor sharp. Cuts through foam like butter. For 2" foam it can take two or three passes but it's minimal effort. The foam ruins the edge pretty quickly so I resharpen as needed. Thank you for the video! I've been using traditional benchwork but it's heavy and expensive. The only issue I've had working with foam is the drum effect when trains pass over. I'd like to know if this is an issue for others. It drives me crazy! I'm bound to figure out a solution.

Thanks for the tip Scott! Yes the "drum" effect is very weird. With the rebuild of my layouts after the move, I'm going to try mounting acoustic ceiling tile strips on top of the foam board to deaden the sound and make it easier to spike rail into the roadbed.
