Tony was an American Roots music treasure...kindred spirit...loved to fish as much as I do...took his time. He was an influence on Knopfler as well as JJ Cale....JJ Cale has the same vibe musically...warms my heart
I was in college when he released Polk Salad Annie which was a huge hit. Somehow he fell off my radar and I’m just re-discovering him now more than 50 years later. Wish I had seen him in person. What a talent. RIP TJW
Amen, huge fan of this man! Love all his music, his voice, the words, what he does with the guitar/harmonica. All started for me with Polk Salad Annie! So glad I explored to find these others!
In 2010, I saw him at a Bar and Grill type restaurant in the rural area of Northern California at a place called Rancho Nicasio. It was a dinner type of a venue and my table was at the front about 15 feet away from him. He was awesome that night. There was a small dance floor and we danced literally 4 or 5 feet away from him and his band. He was very down to earth.
He’s a very good man and he’s authentic, with no bells or whistles. And my god - his voice and guitar are in a category of their own. I’ve seen him in concert 3 times. What a legend. I’ve loved him for over 50 years
My teenage years listening to my bro's early Tony Joe LP's resulted in me seeing him in Napier NZ in 2009. I slipped back stage and he signed my Closer to the truth CD. I gave him a Gizzy gift, for a great night. RIP Tony Joe and many thanks.
There's a cold wind blowing Downtown tonight Oh, I'm all done Walking around, I don't feel right I'm so used to feeling warm Having you hanging on my arm I can't believe you just cut me loose You're gonna look good in blues They still got a cool band In the little club where we used to go But I don't feel the dance Tonight I'm just too low Oh, I gave it all I had You say "Baby, well that's too bad" But you'll have to pay the dues And you're gonna look good in blues Back in the real world No dreams no plans Keeping a low profile Just getting by the best I can But you can't kick a heart around And leave it in pieces on the ground Baby, it's gonna catch up with you And you'll look good in blues You're gonna look good in blues
... you do get that feeling, that he is a good man. that's what blues does, it carries your emotions, your personality across... that's why most amazing blues musicians are also amazing humans...
Great musicians making Great Music. You can feel this a special session, even for these veterans. The drummer lets it shine through. There is no way I can hold back a warm smile!
One of the most talented player I've ever heard. Great writers as well. I miss him, his music told stories that a true music lover could relate too. O will truly miss Jim and his music..RIP TJW He was the same age as me.
I've heard of Tony Joe White knew he wrote midnight in Georgia just found him on TH-cam about a year ago think the guy is great wish I'd have found out about him earlier rest in peace Tony
I've got the DVD and this is a sensational performance. How many others could perform in such a limited style and get it so right.Great DVD with recording studio filming of some great TJ tracks with the Muscle Shoals band.
Was a TV Documentary made in Sweden or Norway and is not available for purchase. I got my copy from a guy in New Zealand but the format prevents me from making copies. I would if I could because it’s a tremendous watch. I have heard that it’s available on You Tube but haven’t seen it myself.”The Man From Down South”.
One of the kindest men I ever knew! He Would call me at Capricorn and ask how my husband was doing overseas...and if his contracts were ready..lol! Wonderful kind man..I was shocked to hear of his death..I wish the best for his wife and children! Great person & musician!
He is/was in a different league saw him in several very intimate venues and had the pleasure of saying hello. They just don’t make them like him any more. No more I can say.
To quote David Letterman after Tony Joe had performed with the Foo Fighters on Dave’s show: “If I was this guy, I’d just tell ALL of you to kiss my ass!”
Very fine music indeed. The snare is possibly a liiiitle bit strong in the mix at places, but who cares? Roger's mimics are priceless also... Sum total: absolutely unforgettable!
Learned about Tony Joe White when I was 19 years old. Ordered and played a lot of his music. Beautiful song writer guitar and harp player. Miss you Cajon man. Love your music. I turned a lot of people on to Tony Joe White.

Saw him quite a few times and had the pleasure to meet him, a southern gentleman and a great talent. A real complete original.

So underrated, a real giant of the blues, killer voice and writing
My teenage years listening to my bro's early Tony Joe LP's resulted in me seeing him in Napier NZ in 2009. I slipped back stage and he signed my Closer to the truth CD. I gave him a Gizzy gift, for a great night. RIP Tony Joe and many thanks.
Wow! New to Tony Joe White’s music and what a find!
Different level stuff, to watch and listen to musicians playing at the top of their game is just magical.
Lucky to have seen him live five or six times - such a talented guy - miss him so much and the wonderful sounds he created !
You were so smooth, you beautiful man. So much talent and skill. I just drift off listening.
I was lucky, I saw him once in Paris , few years ago.Wonderful !!
One of the most under-rated blues guitar pickers, blues harp playing, and song writers there is.
He's not underrated..... he's not well known by the most of us. The few who do know it :)
kregg jorgenson amen brother
You got that right!
No flash, no showboating, no grandstanding, so I guess no audience.
YEP, HE GOT SOME FN DEEP DOWN FEELING...
WHEN YA GET ME IN DEEP FEEL MODE YA GOT IT!!!
There's a cold wind blowing
Downtown tonight
Oh, I'm all done
Walking around, I don't feel right
I'm so used to feeling warm
Having you hanging on my arm
I can't believe you just cut me loose
You're gonna look good in blues
They still got a cool band
In the little club where we used to go
But I don't feel the dance
Tonight I'm just too low
Oh, I gave it all I had
You say "Baby, well that's too bad"
But you'll have to pay the dues
And you're gonna look good in blues
Back in the real world
No dreams no plans
Keeping a low profile
Just getting by the best I can
But you can't kick a heart around
And leave it in pieces on the ground
Baby, it's gonna catch up with you
And you'll look good in blues
You're gonna look good in blues
The most laid back of the true blues men now passed into legend. Happy to play with EVERYBODY! The swamps are a little empty now.
... you do get that feeling, that he is a good man. that's what blues does, it carries your emotions, your personality across... that's why most amazing blues musicians are also amazing humans...
RIP Tony! Thx for the music ….
Amen.
Very soulful & unmistakeably still Tony Joe White. Very soothing relaxing tones. Great!
This guy reminds me of the late John Martyn. RIP Tony & John 🍻
Love the minimalism of the song and performance, clean, clear, quietly powerful. I'm going to incorporate a little of this style into my own music.
Great musicians making Great Music.
You can feel this a special session, even for these veterans.
The drummer lets it shine through.
There is no way I can hold back a warm smile!
That’s Roger Hawkins who played on most of Wilson’s Pickett and Aretha’s biggest hits !
I've been fortunate to record in that studio with David Hood, Donnie Fritts, and Spooner Oldham- RIP Donnie.
One of the most talented player I've ever heard. Great writers as well. I miss him, his music told stories that a true music lover could relate too. O will truly miss Jim and his music..RIP TJW He was the same age as me.

This is a great late Friday night out driving on the highway song. Tony Joe is in a class by himself.
....such damn good music....:)
Rest in peace brother thanks for your soul
Give me the names of those 56 who don’t appreciate this piece of magic.
Fuck them
They don’t like our music for the same reason we don’t like theirs. To each their own. I wonder if young listeners are too young to appreciate this?
This man deserves legendary status
IMHO, one of the best ever in the blues.
Sad, he had the Motown sound and the blues down. soul man, and gone too soon.
David Hood on Bass. That is Muscle Shoals studio. I got in there once. You can feel it in there.
So amazing, so easy going
not forced, DAMN!!!
