    That is a fish eye from contamination. You can let it dry then sand the fish eye out and respray that area. Do a little mist first coat let it set and then go 2-3 heavier coats to get good coverage. Make sure to use a good wax and grease remover before you paint it. Also, tack it well before you paint it. You can also use fish eye eliminator in your paint mix to help eliminate those fish eyes. Make sure you don't have any moisture in your lines too! empty out your traps and compressor a day before painting and use a new filter on your gun before each full paint job! I do not know what hardware you re using but keep it all good and clean too wash out your guns with acetone and spray air thru them to clean them out good to make sure no solvents are polluting your paint. There are some solutions to try and check! Good luck!

    Like everyone else said, they're fisheyes from contamination. You need to wipe down the car with wax/grease remover before spraying.
    The Majic tractor paint is just another oil-based synthetic enamel like Rustoleum, no different. You can use their reducer and hardener with Rustoleum with the same results.

    DUST! it was sprayed in an open enviroment. and you spent NO TIME in the prep work. The dark spots is paint contamination. Spend more time in prepping the car and that cheap paint will give you fantastic results. As for the orange peel the paint you used is notorious for that. Best way to fix that is a wet sand buff and polish.

  • @RebelDukeTX
    @RebelDukeTX 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Glad I found your video. For just sanding it down, washing it off and drying it, then spraying it...you came out with a really good finish on this. Like you said, you just wanted to get new paint on this. Learned from other experienced painters on here what little extra prep can be done to avoid those fish eyes and other small flaws. Now, you laid down three coats on this in the same day, right? I've looked at other brands of paint to use on an old truck of mine. They have a much quicker drying time. Majic recommends a cure time of 24 hours between coats. You proved you can shoot several coats in a day and come out with a good finish. Has a good shine and the orange peel isn't too bad. If desired, let it cure for a week or so, then wet sand a bit and buff it out. For a pretty good looking job, think I may go with this Majic brand. Nice video, man.

  • @vivillager

    Man, that looks good. I'm good with a wrench, but I'm a walking catastrophe with a spray gun. I've used a few rattle cans (either mixed at my local auto body shop, or autozone if they have a can with the same paint code). I have an air-less spray gun kit, I use it for painting a house, or staining a lot of fence, I'm thinking about trying a car with it and some cheap buckets of paint. When I was a kid, I used to read (and day dream) while reading Car-Craft magazines, if those things still exist. I remember an article in which they painted a car with Wal-Mart house paint, and a roller. It looksed like crap, but after sanding, it looked awesome. I'm thinking about maybe trying Wally World paint (with my airless spray gun, not the roller) if I get a car that looks horrible. Anyways, for a cheap car... that's a d**n fine job.

      the shine only last 3 to 6 months then it will start giving off red powder it is not uv stable and with out striping all the paint off it can never be sprayed with anything but oil based paint or it will wrinkle the better idea would be to go to a big box auto part store and get dupli-color paint shop paint at 30 a quart its cheap ant ready to spray. i did a caviler with 1 primer 2 base and 2clear so 5 cans so for 150 price now. i did mine 10 yrs ago when it was only 17.99 a quart paint was jet black and it still looks good till this day and there are 20 or more colors you can get.

    As someone already pointed out, the spots you show is fish eyes. I am old school but there used to be an additive you can use called fish eye remover that can be mixed with the paint to prevent that. Otherwise you will need to make sure everything is sanded well so no original surface is shiny then wipe the entire car down with thinner and tack cloth everything down before starting to paint. But over all the job turned out nice for what was invested.

    The specks are probably either dust that fell on afterwards of contamination in paint. The little black dots are contamination underneath the paint, such as water or oils from your hands. Wipe down with wax and grease remover or isopropyl alcohol before, and use a tack cloth right before spraying or even a shop towel is better than nothing

  • @jordenb9469

    I looked over the comments quick. The one thing that causes those spots is water in the air. You need a Inline filter to remove the water from the compressor or it puts those exact spots on the panels.

  • @khalid95eG

    Your 1st coat looked a little heavy. If that's the case it probably off gassed under the 2nd coat which would cause a lot of those spots. Also you painted it in an open shop instead of a paint booth. Dust and debris will fall on the paint from the ceiling especially when your compressor kicks on. The best way to correct the defects in the paint is to wet sand the entire car with 800 grit, then again with 1500 grit. Then compuond and polish. You should end up with a pretty decent finish.

    It might be silicone contamination, keep away any product with silicone in it from a car. It might have been in the polish from years before. And it comes out of the coat when you send it. Then you spread it and it smears in. If you wash the car after sanding it remains there and opens up your paint when applying... Just clean it very well BEFORE sanding. 2 times and after that degrease it. Then you can sand it. And repeat the cleaning from before.

  • @hickeyskustomresto
    @hickeyskustomresto 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The specs are likely from debris in your gun or paint. Use a filtered funnel. Could also be a contaminate from sanding the car that didn't come off. I've also had that happen where droplets of oil was suspect, and metallic paint can do it also when painting at cold temps.
    I most cases priming the whole car would solve this but then it wouldn't be a cheap paint paint job.

    Those little dots are not contamination. It is solvent pop. It comes from when you don't wait long enough between coats. Because the paint doesn't dry enough before laying the next coat. The solvent that evaporates has nowhere to go because you put the next coat on too quick so it pushes it's way through the coat above it. Causing a small crater

    The specks and fish eyes are likely water in your air lines. You did good not using Rustoleum, and i do like the that brand of tractor paint, but you should know for about $25 more you could have gotten actual automotive paint. Go to Ebay and search "red car paint kit". You should find one gallon acrylic enamel paint kits that come with a gallon of paint, hardener and reducer for around $100. The tractor paint will start to fade pretty quickly, whereas automotive acrylic enamel will last many years. Just make sure it's acrylic enamel and not synthetic enamel. Cuz synthetic enamel is basically the same as tractor paint you used.
    Another option is to go with a Urethane paint kit. They'll run you about an extra $20 over the acrylic enamel, but it's even better paint.

    those little spots are dirt nibs and how you get them off you sand them down and then buff and wax

    Make sure you use an actual cleaning substance like wax and grease remover I was only only a soap was as well and kept getting a lot of those until I used wax and grease remover

    To get rid of the specs you need to do better prep...after washing the car use mineral spirits other prep alcohol then wipe down with the tac cloth then paint

  • @LA...022
    @LA...022 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Are you running a filter off your air compressor the specs could be water droplets in your paint

    Those fish eyes that opened up if u put sealer on it ,it would not do that they might happen in the sealer but after that u won't get them , unless there is a oil drop on there ,if there was a oil drop it would fish eye all the way through, some times if I don't know what is on the surface I. Will put fish eye reducer but it's never really needed if u do I clean job

    I'm a little late to the video but it is contamination. Oil, water etc... something. You can sand it out and repaint it.

  • @tylerchapman5555
    @tylerchapman5555 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Blow it off wipe it down with Windex and then alcohol and it shouldnt fish eye. Prime raw spots first with Wal-Mart automotive primer then sand first and you shouldn't have black bleed thru. Keeps it cheap and comes out better. Also you can 600 wet sand and meguires polish with a buffer with a smooth foam pad to put a showroom finish on it

    Those spots are fisheye. Wax & degrease first before paint. Tack cloth. Then fisheye eliminator mixed in your paint, (one cap, not much),,,, & your fisheye problems will be gone.

    just make sure your body work or even when just sanding the old finish that every is clean after words and just also noticed you said that you weren't sure on the ratio mixes that may have something to do with it too, if there's no directions on the mixing ratios your just playing it by ear may have alot to with it too, sometimes for wanting to say a few dollars you wind up spending more, hey just my cents, you learn from trial and error good luck.

    Those are fish eye from not removing dirt before paint or something you left behind in the body and didn't remove and of course their is gonna be tons and tons of orange peel someone who wants to spend some time a 30 dollar bottle of polish and a a microfiber towel I can buff that out by hand with out sanding and make it look way better in about 2 hours do it all the te to single stage paint jobs ppl do at home and hire me my company to buff it out we use machines but just depends on howany coats and type of paint they used if we use machine or not

    90% preparation and 10% execution. You can shoot on 320 but.. should use compressed air and spray floors and walls, wet floor, wax and grease remover, tac cloth, inline filter to keep moisture out of your gun, wipe down hoses, create ground to eliminate any static, almost always gonna have some trash so gonna be some work afterwards, always filter paint. Again 90% preparation.

    To bad you didn’t seal it. Ive painted cars in the past that have already been painted before and your taking a chance. Some times you’ll have a bad reaction, (a lot of lifting etc.) and I’ve seen it to where it looks like you sprayed Aircraft Paint Stripper on it. Boy was it a mess! But not to bad, Considering.
