    I live in eastern Tennessee as well on the Cumberland Plateau in the city of Crossville 20 minutes out in the country. Its nice to have your input on what is growing well for you. I started a butterfly garden many years ago. It was growing well until we had some hot, cold weather back and forth. Everyone in our area lost their butterfly bushes. Unfortunately, I did not maintain a wisteria I had planted to go over a metal bench and little to my understanding of wisteria, it took over my whole garden making large roots and growing up everywhere. Wisteria is a beautiful plant but it will be the last time I plant one unless its on a hill far away. Too invasive and it choked out my butterfly garden even though it was at the far side. I'd advise researching plants before anyone uses it in an area that you want to maintain. Your gardens are beautiful. I was so glad when I found your videos. You have helped me a lot. I'm now going inch by inch pulling up all the vines and roots from the wisteria out of my butterfly area and going to do my best to keep my beautiful wisteria in check. Also Sun chokes are beautiful but spread everywhere. In late Sept./Oct. There are beautiful Sun flower looking blooms everywhere. About 8-10 ft tall. The tubers are considered a diabetic potato not raising insulin in the body. Crunchy like a raw potato but it does a lot of spreading in the area you plant them in. . Started with about 12 on the edge of my butterfly garden and took up about 300 plants. They would be great in your setting of a whimsical free flowing garden. Thanks again 4 your videos. Beautiful job and very encouraging to beginner gardeners.

      Sherron, I think Wisteria should come with a warning label... I wish I had mentioned in the video that the Chinese Wisteria can become a monster. I use the excess vines and roots to make wattle fences, so I don't mind the wildness so much. I believe I have some of those Sun Chokes, my friend gifted me some that she calls Georgia Sunflowers, and they DO spread like wildfire. I don't like the height of the plant so i cut about 2ft right off the top as it is growing, Keeps it down to about 4ft when the flowers bloom.

    Love your garden tour and nesting geese & ducks. The garden IS a handiwork of God. You Jeri provide the inspiration, work, and loving care. It is so beautiful at your place. Also as a fellow gardener, The plants respond strongly to love, admiration and attention.
    When ever I am planting, or preparing beds, there is always admiration of the space, and the joy of watching everything grow and change thru the season. A comment on Foxglove...Here in south coastal Oregon, we have alot of wild Foxglove of many colors, they plant themselves about. The soil here is acid, a favorite for blueberries, raspberries, salmon berries, black berries, and hydrangeas, rhododendrons. Your garden is full of LOVE. Thanks for another uplifting video even if it 10 months old, never get old to witness such beauty.

      Gods handiwork is once again peeking thru the soil and budding on the trees. I've been observing it all day as i wandered the gardens. Such a beautiful, peaceful place you have Jeri. It certainly does reveal the beauty and glory of God. Your pansies are giant, I’ve never seen them so tall! You’ve inspired me to start a lot of things from seed instead of purchasing plants. I am finding that i enjoy them so much more. Sure some things may not show up, but when you see those little seeds popping out of the ground and check their growth day by day it is so enjoyable. They truly are little miracles and inspire awe. I look forward to seeing your cutting garden flowers in bloom!

    • @JeriLandersofHopalongHollow
      @JeriLandersofHopalongHollow  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Theresa, Those Pansies have really surprised me! Absolutely agree with you on planting from seed. Once the plants take hold, they seem much larger and healthier as well. Even my husband noticed the difference in the Foxglove, when I used to buy them from the nursery they NEVER got 6 ft tall, (as they have ,since I planted them from seed) It's amazing.

    I just planted bright orange tulips (zone 4) in two of my favorite cottage style concrete urns. You have inspired me to plant violets (or pansies) with them. This particular garden was planted in purple, orange, hot pink and magenta. It was stunning this past summer. What a nice display as we come into the back porch!! We had a wonderful garden close to Chicago that I worked for some thirty years and am starting all over in our rural homestead. I wish I could have brought that lovely rich soil with me. I surely wont be lacking for things to keep me busy as we develop the new gardens. My mom has a lovely garden too and is a quilter. I have shared your channel with her. 😊. Randy, When I found East Tennessee, I knew I'f found my home. Geese really are such characters that you can really get to know. As much as I adore the ducks, they don't have the same type of personality as the GOOSE FAMILY. I will tell you a secret, don't tell Mathilda the Sebastapol; I am adopting 2 new baby goslings for her. I am going to slip them under her belly and she will think she hatched them. Thanks for the tip on the Pansies, I will do that for sure.

    We never give God enough credit for things I am so glad you did. It's such a beautiful garden. Do you use any kind of mulch. All but one of my gardens have heavy mulch except one. I'm trying a compost/manure mulching technique on that one to see how that works. It's so hard to get any reseeding with a heavy mulch.

    • @JeriLandersofHopalongHollow
      @JeriLandersofHopalongHollow  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Jennifer, I used to mulch, but now I use compost as mulch. It works even better because you are adding all that good stuff to your soil, and you can plant or seed right into it.

    Hi Jeri! Your gardens are looking splendid this Spring! I actually planted wisteria a couple weeks ago, just hoping I don’t let it get out of control 🤭 But you’ve inspired me - - I’d love to create a waddle fence in a couple years, or sooner, depending on how fast it decides to grow. And P.S. - say hello to your Feathered People for me. Since we’ve moved from the country to just inside city limits I miss my flock so much! Have a lovely weekend 🌸💕
