  • The Volkswagen T-Cross is the ultimate Compact City SUV.
the spacious interior of the T-Cross combined with it's small stature, makes for the most sensible City Family SUV on the Market.
In this video I go on a coastal drive to Coogee, Bondi Beach and Watsons Bay in search of FOOD for this foodie.

As a senior citizen, we have owned our 2022 VW style R-line T-cross with the Optional Sound & Vision package for 12 months. We have done country trips from Melbourne numerous times (800 klm round trips) where we average 4.6 litres per 100 klms. So comfortable to drive and have most of the safety features that a more expensive vehicle has. Lane change warning, Park Assist, Parking distance sensors, Front Assist with Pedestrian and Cyclist Monitoring functions, keyless entry and starting system, Adaptive Cruise Control, Dual zone climate control air conditioning and automatic high beam function., Front side and curtain airbags. It is a very safe car to drive. I will often put in sports mode taking off at a set of lights and their is no throttle lag. I also turn off the stop/start system.

These are great compact SUVs that drive well, are well equipped and brilliantly packaged. Like all modern VWs you need to accept that you will need to spend more $ than a Toyota on repairs and maintenance. Things to know are: (1) It uses a timing belt that needs changing every 5 years or 100,000km; (2) Plastic water pump will leak before 60,000kms; (3) Use the VW specification oil with the right additive package or risk early engine carbonisation and other issues; (4) Being direct injected the inlet valves may have a carbon build up issue at around 120,000kms that requires walnut blasting or similar. This means that a car with around 120,000kms will need a massive service that could cost you around $3,500. Also, like any Euro the brakes wear quickly and produce prodigious amounts of brake dust. Expect having to do rotors and pads around 35,000kms at around $1,500 a time... best use aftermarket rotors and pads to avoid this high recurring cost.

Nice looking VW Rob. Love the scenery! I’ll always be a manual guy but currently have automatics. Great review!

Nice one! Seems like a great set-up for small size with nothing too extravagant but with the fun and practicality in mind. Would consider if I was in the market.

Just bought one for the wife. She loves it. Couple of really annoying things though. 1. We bought the top of the line model and there are no overhead grab handles!!! Bit cheapskate don’t you think VW?? 2. If I were going to buy it again, I’d would specify it with smaller wheels because I think those 18 inch alloys spoil the ride with too little side profile. 3. The doors creak and groan on even surfaces (after just 500kms!!!). Finally, the DSG throttle lag on take-off is awful, to the point I’m buying an aftermarket PedalBox for the throttle. All those things aside though, the car is a delight to drive and that little 3-pot motor is a gem!!

if you still have t-cross apply wurth's rubber care spray, it does the trick. Same here in my t-cross just after 2 months. Very annoying indeed.

Do the fuel savings outweigh the need for premium unleaded petrol and the more expensive servicing though?
