Enjoy my deep dive analysis of REN’s latest. So sorry I kept mispronouncing Nas’ name. I’m still learning. Make sure to go and subscribe to the artists and leave a comment and like below.
Miss you Gotta do his previous two songs... it's Singing! It's BEYOND anything he's done so far!!!
Please... do them!
Fred Again Mashup
Back on 74/Message in a Bottle!!!!
Both Amazing... right up your alley!!!!
For context the beat is by Large Professor , hip hop royalty! 90’s New York jazzy boombap stylings.
Thanks for the reaction, liked how you did it. NAS (NAH-Z).
Even though he did a great retake, us older hip hop heads feel a little torn. He’s being very respectful by killing this sick bars, great vocal range, inflection, and complex schemes you gotta breakdown over several listens.
However… NAS Halftime is unspokenly sacred. In hip hop, if you rhyme over someone else’s beat, it’s disrespectful at BEST. You’re kinda saying, I can do it better. He should’ve done a different arrangement with the beat, it’s too close to the original.
I hope this rant helps you on your hip hop journey!!!❤
Love your passion! I’ve been listening to hiphop for 30 years, and I would LOVE to recommend some things…
Have you heard of Coast Contra??? I have a feeling there literary talent and performance! They are true artists, and have clear vision and perspective. Good luck on your journey!!!
@@emerj101 very interesting! I'm learning in real time. thanks for that.
@@emerj101 never heard of them/him/it. but open to checking it out. making a note.
First reactor 🫡!🇬🇧! Fred again retake and back to 74 are well worth a look, think you’ll love them.
❤ I can't stop listening to both of them 🔥 sooooo good 🖤
3rd this... she's missing out by Not doing them!!! Unlike today's drop, a Rap song, she'll not be so out of her element!!!!
@@woodywoodman2319 yes but I can understand why. She is into a hiphop journey. She is doing the right thing as she already knows and understands other genres. Now she is discovering real HipHop. And that is why, keeping it in the UK scene, I suggest also for her to check out Dave Santan, Akala, Mic Reckless or Lowkey. She is starting to understand the hidden stuff in the lyrics and the guys I named are just mind blowing. If Ren is a master at playing with emotions, those play with your brain and teach you a lesson in each of their songs. I suggest "Dave - Black, Live ate the Brits" or "Heart Attack"
Great reaction, this is what Ren just posted: "My favorite thing about this video, watch the countdown for the crossing behind me at 0:57 then watch me unintentionally stop at 0... bit of unintentional serendipity gets me every time"
So awesome that you viewed the tribute alongside the lyrics and cadences of the original. I hadn't realised how many nods there were to Nas' song, as well as Ren referencing his own tracks (Uninvited, Love Music, etc). So good!
Rosalie wasn’t expecting you to be first, impressive 👍
Rosalie, you got so much more than any reactor I've seen so far but in your own way with your knowledge. You got so deep with it. Another layer in this track is that Ren referenced at least 9 lyrics from his own tracks.
Thank you very much! :)
Also, each of these new tracks have referenced the next ones to come.
Fred again - jungle-. In the Jungle 74 track he mentions Nas and in this he references Chinchillas Diamond .
Love the way he layers this stuff. As he said, " Its by design you know ".
Great reaction and very nice, you took your time to even hold Ren's retake to the original.
Just to give some history to it:
"Halftime" was the single Nas debuted on. His first sign on the map bascially.
It was on his first album called "Illmatic" which is considered one of the top 10 albums in Hip Hop-history. (For me it's even Top 3)
The album was released when Nas was 20 yrs old, but he wrote all the lyrics when he was just 17.
Ren's verses about "sleep is the cousin of death" is another nod to one of the hits on "illmatic", Nas raps the same in the song "N.Y. sate of mind"
OMG you're fast Rosalie 😁
That’s the best thing about Ren’s retakes. He pays homage with his own twist on it.
Love how you drew the comparisons between Ren and Nas’s versions. I’m also new to rap and hip hop too. Enjoying learning about it through Ren’s work and the artists he sheds light on.
Ren's retakes are always multiple things: All retakes are not monetized and he wants to show his love for those artists while educating people on great music in the process.
All of them.
They are also never covers but reintepretations in various and creative ways.
Bringing musical culture to life one retake at a time.
It's just an awesome experience.
And here he is basically saying: Pay respect to the greats that came before me and that are not longer with us, BUT more importantly value them while they are STILL ALIVE.
Which he did here with Nas.
You have to love it and respect it.
He also changed the beat in various ways in a very dope way if you pay attention and did callbacks for other Nas songs within the lyrics of this retake.
And more eastereggs that I do not want to spoil. :D
Ren showing respect ✊ to Nas in the Snowy Streets of Calgary, Alberta 🇨🇦! Ren is F”ing Brilliant…
Why does Ren work make me feel so good?!....
Listened to Knox, BP, Anthony Ray before you, honestly you took the reaction to this to a new level.
Oh wow! Thank you very much!!
💯
Loved this, VERY well done Rosalie, brilliant break down!!
Thank you very much!! I appreciate that, as analyzing rap is not my field of expertise, but willing to learn
This wasn't halftime, it was fulltime!!! Great reaction and analysis, Rosalie!
Great reaction!
💯
Just seen a Ren short praising reactors again. He said one thing I'd never thought about. He's worked with a song for so long that watching reactors listen for the 1st time allows him to almost experience it for the 1st time... and he sends thanks
What a top fella
You have to be a renagade surely this was so fast
Rosalie, you were the reactor that brought me to Ren and I can't thank you enough!!! I never listened to rap before Ren. Ren brought me to Chinchilla, The Big Push, Sam Thompkins, Eden Nash, etc.... so many new artists I never would have found on my own. So thank you again!!❤❤
Have you been introduced to Liv Sangster?

Your commitment is noted!
You were on it super super quick Rosalie ❤❤❤❤
Awesome reaction and I’m no expert 😅
If you get the chance something that just blew my mind… Was listening to RENNNN❤❤🎉

He is beyond talented to a level in the stratosphere 😂
Brilliant scientific ARTISTRY that never ceases to amaze ‼️💜🎤☮️💯💐💐💐💐
Hey everyone coming here for the reactions need to head over to Rosalie's other TH-cam channel. Link in description. She's an amazing singer. Let's all show her some love and get other reactors reacting to her videos.
That’s very kind of you! Thank you :)
Yeeeees thank you!! 🥳
REN's place among the greatest of all time will come... with time. I enjoy your take on his art. Keep doing what you do.
Supersizing order - listen to his Uninvited 😂
Always classy reactions! Love it
Love your excitement!
anyone Notice the Eletric guitar he added
Oh yes! 🔥🎸🔥
👍🔥👍🔥🦇
Super quick on this Rosalie! You must've had early access! Great analysis ❤
Ren and The Warning both dropped new songs/performances at the same time today. Awesome.
Brillant reaction....... and love some of the comments on this.... all very insightful. Thank you
If you don't know, now you know....I was raised on Rap but must admit I don't know much of Nas (Nas's?) work. It's admitting you don't know, that we see as a weakness when we should not. Learning something new should be seen as a beautiful thing. Rosalie your are such a bright teacher for we Ren students. ❤❤❤❤
So good.
23:36 “I never sleep, cause sleep is the cousin of death” - NAS
He’s paying his respects to a famous NAS bar
❤ #ren 🔥
Absolute firrrre as alway's 🔥🖤
❤ Ren is a rhyming diamond 💎 x
he also makes a reference to "genesis" where he leaves the fries on the side
😎1st time I've erd this ren track n Nas takes me back to my teens 🤪💜✌️👊
Where have you been? You have some catching up to do! We saved you a seat❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥

Rosalie = Ren Groupie Status UNLOCKED 🔓 😂
WTG Rosalie!!!
Rosalie have you reacted to his last 2 songs? Did I miss it? Thank you for this awesome breakdown ❤
Not yet :)
@@rosalieelliottofficial Can't wait
He kept the main flow, though it's more rock than jazz. Phenomenal wordplay.
I love it I only wish it was longer
One-Take "Baby Prince" REN Returns !!!
Thanks!
Nas references slave ships while Ren references pirate ships.
How can you make a 24 minute video, if his premiere was 10 mins ago? 😆 Besides that great reaction as always!
She has a pre recorded intro alongside her reaction
I got connections :)
Ren hooks up his most favourite Reactors, only the reactors he trusts get sent his music early, what a guy 😁👍
Great job! Also love the @KnoxHill shoutout! He’s awesome!
Everything is thought out. Dropped on 3:14 which is Pi day in the US. Pi Day is an annual celebration of the mathematical constant π. Pi Day is observed on March 14
Love your stuff
Is Ren at Nas's level? In terms of skill, probably. Possibly even better. In terms of influence, not by a long shot--yet.
A few more things to blow your mind, things that stem from Ren's reference to his "librarian brain":
Pie-rats -> pi-rats -> pi = 3.14 This was dropped on March 14th, Pi Day.
"An isotope, a proton and a neutron in the nuclei/And split an atom in a fraction, a reaction...." "Breaking Atoms" was the debut album for Main Source. One of the members of Main Source was Large Professor. Large Professor produced Halftime. I can't help but think this is also a shout-out to the reactors who have helped put Ren on the map.
So, yeah, Ren's layers have layers.
" Name a rapper that I ain't influenced" - Nas Ether 🔥
You are very smart. i've not heard anyone break it down like you. you are pretty cute too which helps while watching a reaction ❤
Amazing
12:30 - Yep, an isotope of an atom is changing the number of neutrons in the nucleus (like Uranium 235 and 238), a fractional reaction/chain reaction... yep, he went from diamonds to an atom bomb.
Ren was never in doubt. The lad is Midas ❤❤
I've never cared for Rap, until I heard Hi Ren. This one didn't move my like all of other videos have, but now that I've seen the original, I find Ren's version to be much better, but then again I don't like rap, so that's probably why.
19 th April 30 years anniversary illmatic best hip hop album ever do that reaction
🔥
The Pi line though... Pi is 3.14 .... was released on 3/14, also Pi Day... also Einsteins Birthday! Its Also the angel number...
Coincidence... doubt it!
Gotta stay sharp
Hey the atom sachem is saying he’s nuclear that’s how you make an atom bomb
Please react to Raye and her recent performance at the Brit Awards, just phenomenal ❤
Malaysia New Song Before Trending🔥🔥❤❤❤
Steady Gang - ( 周星翅Chou Xing Chi )MV❤❤❤❤👍🏻
👌
And REN is alone!
Posted on Pi Day (3/14)
Original runtime: 4:20
ReNtake runtime: 2:10 (literally halftime)
👏👏
Nas was the best. You want to learn rap more, 😅listen to this whole album, illmatic, was the best ever to listen to! You must listen to Nas and the whole song to understand this retake.
Drinking game? Take a shot everytime you hear "literary art", you're welcome
Just a FYI its pronounced Naz..
Like a Z not an S.
Pronounced NOZ, Not Nass Rosalie.
see pinned comment :) thank you for the info :)
Say Oz, then put a N in front of it. NOZ--NAS..
do you work with deaf ppl?
that was fun. i knew nas was the man but i dont care for all the drug culture so i didnt follow him.
Bed time story Slick rick ccc♦️nod fox 🎲 love music 2🕎
Tried to approach this with an open mind.
Found true meaning, coincidental at best, and hard to find.
You jumped to the conclusion the reference to pressure was about the creation of bling. Turns out, narcissistic impressions were the intended thing!
You're lovely, you're smart, you sing like an Angel. Yet, your new found infatuation with this "art" Is just this side of shameful!
Stick with actual music impressions!😅
Knox level breakdown Rosalie ❤
Oh wow!! What an honor!! Thank you
I concur 👏👏👏 Rosalie ❤
@@jorice5528 thank you so much!! honored!
You're the first reaction I found! Way to be on it! This was so good!
I love someone who does their homework. 😁
Thanks for the analysis of both songs. ❤️
Damn Rosalie crazy fast 🎉
Ren has reached the level of the old hiphop masters. However, he does it so very differently from others. That is what we love.
I’ve been waiting to see you do Fred Again Mash Up and Back on 74!! So glad to see you do this! Always enjoy your reaction!!
i saw someone said the feeding them pi is 3.14 so cleaver to drop this on the 14th and 3rd month
Please react to back on 74/ message in a bottle retake by ren
Just deleted saying how sorry I was for sounding like a pronunciation nazi because I just noticed your above comment, but I'll leave in the reason it's pronounced the way it is... His birth name is Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones, with the first named pronounced /nɑhːˈzɪər/, so his rap name Nas is pronounced /nɑhːz/.
Also, I LOVED that you did a bit of the original Halftime by Nas himself, very respectful and great way to kick off Ren's version. Great ear by the way hearing the Jazz music, Nas's father is a jazz and blues musician from Mississippi, and on the line you shouted out the Atlanta Braves...."Atlanta ain't Brave-r, I'll pull a number, like a pager", might have been a shout out to his brother, Jabari Fret, who raps under the name Jungle and was a member of a hip hop group, Bravehearts. Although it's his younger brother and the group formed after this track, so forget that, there might be a tie in, cannot confirm, anyway, great reaction and synopsis, top tier as always!!!! ✌💚
He made me go listen to nas too. It brought another depth to his great track and showed me a whole new star. Im awestruck. As always with ren.
please please react to back in 74 /message in a bottle ,would love to see your breakdown, thank you ❤❤
Ren gave me a new appreciation for rap, love your reaction, really balanced 💖
Omg. "The names that are still intact" going back to "rest in peace(piece)" (pieces meaning not intact) making that whole section a double.
It is not Nas like in Nashville, It is Nas like in NOS. Ren nailed it.
Very exciting watching your excitement as you learn this field of music. You are bringing me with you. I never cared for rap...shows how ignorant I have been.
This was 🔥 Rosalie! I really appreciate your reaction! Great energy.
What! Already!!!! ... Ok I'll watch it 😅
You should definitely do his last 2 tracks before this you’d enjoy them
I think it's amusing that Ren 'censored' himself because in the second verse of Nas version he also censored himself.
I’ve learned so much from the different reaction videos. REN pays homage to, so many artists in this flow. We have the beat Halftime, we have Big L with the China without Rice setup, Big L also dropped a like Mike quote for Jordan but REN drops one for Tyson. But if you miss hear day like night it almost sounds “Play like Mike” then Mike with a ear to bite. We have the unintended perfect timing of the crosswalk timer in the background, he steps in the street at 10 and stops on 0 for his Pie Rats tie in. Waviest guy is a NAS play as he once was lil wave or something like that. The atom breakdown was homage to someone else. A old school NYC reactor caught that one when he basically gave a NAS class at the beginning of how this beat came about and who was involved. We have a Pie reference on Pi day, the drop of this song 3.14 or March 14th. The school bus also look’s unintended but it just seems so planned that the School bus arrives exactly at the right time to carry the greats to their Rest in peace word play. Reaction community gets a shout out in the physics Atom set, at the end he says the “Reaction supersize’s me” REN has lots of love for the reaction community that has helped him grow independently. The flip on New York State of Mind “Sleep is the cousin of death” I think there may even be more Easter Eggs in this drop which has happened just before Easter to note. I would love to know if other people caught other special tidbits! So fun.
Nice job. 😎
A probably unintended Easter egg is one of the signs outside a shop he walks by has the word ‘Humble’ visible. Humble being one of his songs💕👍🦇
