A reaction channel could easily use both approaches on a single video. The reactor could watch the song video the whole way through, uninterrupted, first in order to provide an authentic first impression to the overall song. This would be a "big picture" overview. Then, the reactor could go back through the song again to provide a more detailed break down. The overall feeling and flow of a song is often lost when it is interrupted with many starts and stops. The more lengthy two-step approach I'm suggesting would be a win-win, achieving the benefits of both different approaches.
@@chrissekely Hi Chris, I completely understand what you are saying, and yes, to a degree that would work, however, people would still moan about the pauses in the second watch, after all, people watch for the reactors reaction.Doing what you suggest would mean that the reaction videos , would have to longer, and I guarantee people would then complain about that.Best wishes to you.
@johnshea5967 Thank you! Unfortunately, I do agree with you about how many people would likely respond. Maybe this could be fixed by reading two videos? The first one being the non-stop, more holistic response and the second being the more detailed break-down.

The first cd was 1982. The Sony Walkman came out soon after and was a small portable cd player you could plug headphones into. It wasn't cheap, but it wasn't outrageously expensive either. I remember that cd's quickly became popular, but cassettes were still widely in use for years afterward, primarily because that was the only way to make mixtapes, as cd burning technology wasn't around until many years later. I suspect Ren wasn't trying to be historically accurate as much as he was basically saying, "This was Old School."
Yep, growing up in Canada, anyway, Walkmans (for cassette tapes) were EVERYWHERE but we had no clue Discmans were available until the end of the 80s. I went to school in a well-off part of the city, and while I certainly didn't know many of the rich kids (rich kids of the kind that some of them had parents who bought them a brand new sporty car for their 16th birthdays), I'm not aware of a single one of them having a Discman until we were in grade 12 (1990/1991). They could afford it, but very few record labels put out CDs for many of their artists because the market wasn't there for them to be able to sell many copies on CD. The demographic who bought CD players were considered to be boomers & maybe some adventurous Silent Generation folks; CD titles were released for those tastes. I got hired at a big indie record store in 1992 and CDs were just at a point where the CD section was finally equalling the tape section (and consider that since tapes were sold in packaging that had them oriented vertically, they took up a lot less space on the shelves so if the size of the CD section area of the store was rivalling the size of the tape section, I think it still meant there were more tapes on the shelves... Tapes were a lot "thicker" than CDs so not as many tapes could fit lined up in the bins we filed them all in, but I think the small size of a tape still meant more could fit in the same area... idk, I don't think I've worded that well, but I can't think of a better way to explain it so let's just move on 😂). My point being that at least in Canada, there wasn't much appeal for kids in the 80s to bother having a Discman because the record labels weren't even putting many albums they wanted to listen to on CD yet. It reached a big enough tipping point in... idk, 1989 (?) in Canada where finally more & more titles that appeal to young people were being released on CD as well as tape, and by the time Nirvana hit in 1991 it had become a landslide if titles (still not EVERYTHING was available on CD tho). Also, CDs were awkward to bring with you anywhere. You had to want to carry a backpack around to have extras with you (tapes could be stuck into a pocket if you weren't carrying a backpack around), they scratched and skipped easily, and sure they had a case but the case didn't, like, snap shut or anything so unless you could secure them in your backpack you risked having the case pop open and the CD rubbing against stuff and being damaged. I remember the uproar when portable CD storage was marketed - large wallets with floppy plastic sleeves, and you'd take your CD out of its case and slide it into the sleeve and it was easier/safer to carry around. But the uproar was because we were SO scared about how easy it was to damage a CD (and CDs were EXPENSIVE AF) but yet if the plastic sleeve was tight enough to capture & hold the CD securely from sliding out of the wallet on its own, it meant you would sometimes accidentally scuff or scratch the CD sliding it in/out of your wallet. You gotta remember, this was in a moment of *plastics* technology advancement too. Truly soft/flexible/inexpensive plastics that were *durable* were developed in this same timeframe, and not all flexible plastics are created equal in terms of what might damage a CD if it was rubbed up against it over and over!
Fun fact: Ren released is "Sick Boi" album in October, and released it on cassette tape (as well as vinyl, CDs, and digital). He made three different designs for the cassettes. It was a super cool throw back. I had to buy them lol!
Nice reaction bois, as always! The ‘Pac’ pronunciation - I’m Welsh and I’ve always pronounced the stage name 2Pac as if it were 2pack, to rhyme with Mack, and it’s what I’ve heard others say around me here, and also by folks from Scotland and parts of England too, mostly the North and the Midlands, but I can’t remember how it’s pronounced in the South of England, Northern Ireland or The Republic of Ireland, despite having discussed Tupac with people from all those places! I don’t think I’ve heard it prounounced properly until I started watching US documentaries about Tupac and of course, from you reactors. What I’m trying to say is I’d say it’s Ren’s accent and not a deliberate change to fit the rhyme scheme in this case, although Ren DOES bend his vowel sounds to fit rhyme schemes on many of his tracks - which is actually not too noticable over here because it just reflects the huge variety of accents in the UK!
@@rebeccaburnell9319 Thank you, I’m glad you found it useful! I’m fascinated by how Ren taps into different regional accents (not always his own) in order to widen the rhyming options available to him without making it sound too forced.
Always fun to watch your conversations. All the greats are students of the game and Rens background makes him 10x less likely to have that influence. But here he is, future legend in the making lol.
Over 400,000 CD players were sold in America between 1983 and 1984, despite the high cost of about $1000, which is about $3000 in 2024 dollars. Most middle-class families in America had CD players by the latter half of the 1980s, as the price came down. CD sales overtook cassettes in America by 1992. However, in the market for portable players, the Walkman cassette player was still preferred over the Discman in the 1990s because it was cheaper, could fit in a pocket, didn't skip when bumped, and it was much cheaper and simpler to make a mix tape compared to complicated and expensive CD-R drives and media back then. A lot of people never had a portable CD player. They went from using Walkmans in the 80s and 90s to MP3 players in the late 90s and 00s, especially after the release of the Apple iPod in 2001.
I got my Discman probably somewhere between '89-'91... we were pretty poor, so it was either second-hand or family chipped in for a B'day or something. Biggest obstacle (aside from avoiding rough road) was building up a music catalog. To this day, I think I have more tapes from the mid to late 80's than I do cd's!
Ren's flow, delivery, performance, lyrics... his LYRICS!?! All out of this World! As always! :) However, Ren's remix of the beat, all the added audio, especially the guitar, is just the icing on the cake! Just fantastic! :)
CDs were around in the mid to late 80s. Tapes were still very much in use by the masses. In the nineties, the tape was also used in multitrack recording.
Great reaction to a great RENdition. Ren posted this: Pinned by Ren @RenMakesMusic 1 day ago My favorite thing about this video, watch the countdown for the crossing behind me at 0:57 then watch me unintentionally stop at 0... bit of unintentional serendipity gets me every time.
Purple park in Astoria. The Hellgate bridge was painted purple. Grew up in Marine Terrace and never realized the connections with the color. 61 years young and loving REN. Great reaction. Subscribed.
I've fast become a fan of you two, you have great enthusiasm, are very engaging and deep in your breakdowns, and your love and knowledge of music is obvious. Your original stuff is pretty good too, I've added a few of your songs to my playlists. Plus mad style 😎 keep doing what you're doing. I know you're on the ren journey right now, but do you take requests? I have a list of things I love watching people break down and I'd love to see you'se guys's take on some of them. (That's my inner NY showing, though I've lived all over the country at this point and will make people's heads explode by using a "you'se guys" and a "y'all" in the same sentence 😂) Also, from what I understand, you don't have to worry about the copyright thing with ren's music. He loves the whole reaction community and often watches and comments on them, and if it does get flagged for copyright and you let him know his people will clear it up for you.
@@StrawhatDynasty it definitely was. I actually was thinking yesterday I need to get a cassette player. Ren makes his albums available in cassette . I think it would be the best way to enjoy them.
Cassette tapes and CD's were both commonly used in 1996, but tapes were on their way out. And... internet did exist at that time - AOL - it just took an hour to load a basic HTML web page on your dial up connection lol.
Btw, you need to listen to the end again. Pausing it seconds from the end meant that you missed the reversal of the 'death is the cousin of sleep'' to 'sleep is the cousin of death, so save your breath...'. :)
Really enjoying seeing what hip hop fans make of this retake…..Ren pays homage and puts his own twist on it …..love the Salute with Bars line 💜 Btw ….love the Astoria Warriors hat…..love the Warriors film….so recognised the font used on that one. Thanks guys 🔥
But how does "flick knife with no one to complain to" make sense? He also says "cut you with a flick knife" in all four BLIND EYED videos with no pixilation, so why here?
Not a chance Ren used that word. Not as a throw back. Not blurred. The original also has multiple n-words. Neither is in this song. Guaranteed. Not to mention that "Like a f@ggot with no one to complain to" doesn't make sense. @@mandynoske5809
@@yonahgrossman7319 he is playing. He put out a short saying he should be more contraversial to be more popular. You could tell he was being (tongue in cheek) being sarcastic for a laugh. With a clip of the bleeped word.I honestly think that it was ref to the tongue in cheek line as well. Also he loves puzzles and hidden easter eggs.
Ive watched so many Ren performances now that ive worked out, mostly because he actually references this a lot himself in many tracks, is that Ren has a thing for putting the same lyric in a track 3 times (or more) in a row, its a superstitious habit he's formed, and I love when I catch him doing it, or mentioning it in a track. Just thought I'd add this here as it's the one thing I've never heard a reactor comment on. 💞🐷
The worst thing about old cassette tapes was when the tape got snagged on something and would unwind from the cassette; then you had to painstakingly roll it back in with one finger in one hole. Not kidding.
It took me a while to get to this Ren track as I was busy processing other stuff. I'm so glad I chose to start with your reaction which was an absolute joy! I think the best I've ever seen you. I loved all the diversions as well. I made my first mix tape over 50 years ago 😲 I can even remember one of the tracks was Johnny Nash- I Can See Clearly Now. Looking forward to your Illmatic breakdowns. Much love, Jane ❤ xx
About the press pause and eject. As you guys know Halftime was the halfway point on Illmatic. What did you have to do after Halftime? Press pause then eject, take the tape out and flip it over to side B for the rest of the album.
As always absolutely love your reactions and breakdowns. The memes in between always have me in stitches 😂 You guys seem so well rounded and so rich in culture, well versed in the greats. I really really love to see it and also love learning off you guys as well. “Another one ☝️ “

I ignored all the other reactions to this vid waiting to see you guys do it. Because the twinsies do it best! Great reaction, but please dont forget the money game series, pt 2 and pt 3 are insane.
Yo Julz, where can I get one of those Strawhat beanies? Loved this reaction guys! I'm like you guys, an old school hip hop fan. I grew up listening to Illmatic. So as much as I love Ren, I wasn't sure how I was gonna feel about this. You gotta tread carefully when you're trying to fill the shoes of a G.O.A.T. lol! It's either gonna be off the chain or a total disaster, there is no in-between. What won me over was him paying homage to B.I.G., Tupac, Mac Miller, and Lil' Peep. Those bars were overflowing with love and respect for the game. It was beautiful!
Wow we love this comment on so many levels ! We did grow up similar in the music we listened too! Illmatic is one of our favorite albums, fun fact! We went to high school on the same neighborhood where Nas grew up and where the album Illmatic is based. So we really resonate with some of the scenes and words and streets he references! As for the beanies , give us some time and we’ll get some out there on the market !
Hi guys! LOVED THIS REACTION. The vibe was there, and you both were clickin''! Talking about music playback history, I remember vinyl and even color vinyl 45's (normally 2 songs; hit on one side and a second song on the "flip side"!, vinyl records or "album" LP 78's, 33 1/3's, and the evolution of 8 track tapes! Cassettes were after that. It's so fun to think back and realize how far things have come and yet, I miss those days of broken tapes, splicing them back together carefully and that one particular scratch on an album that made it uniquely yours. Thank you for all you're doing in this awesome reaction community! You are two of the best out here!! ❤🎉 BTW... check out the Pi bars. Ren released this one on 3/14 - talk about meticulous!!
you guys are absolutely by far one of my favourite reactor channels on youtube. I love the depth in which you analyse the music as well as the amazing vibe you bring to the channel.
Great reaction again guys - but I can absolutely assure you that CD’s were well and truly around at this time! They’d been on the market probably nearly 10 years!
Ren's retake is also half of time of of the original 2 minutes 13 (clever), CD's had been out for almost a decade but tape was still prevalent, so much to digest in such a short homage.
Wicked reaction Brothas! Do you. Always. You like that old school, my era. "Castles Made of Sand" for sure, hits that wicked early 90's, back ally beat. "Ahiahiahoha" Ft. Bibi ( Bonus Track) has some funk with the beat and story🔥🔥🔥! Halftime was just something special. Wicked superb lyricism. I really hope Nas gets to see it.
CD's were introduced in '82, but weren't real common until around '85. All the original Hip Hoppers were breakin' on cassette or LP. I still have a Grand Master Flash cassette in my coll. 🤘🤙✌️
Ren announced he will be in NY in April to film his music video with Chris Webby. Prof said he's waiting on Ren's verse on a song. And rumor has it there is an NF collab coming as well!!! 💙 Loving the Ren reactions. Someone figured out that the bleeped out word is feminist because Ren used comments from the original Nas video for that verse. ❤
With ren's music you don't have to worry about copyright, ren has cleared it with TH-cam and his publishing company that their is no restrictions on copyright. You lift his music, he lifts your channel. His way of thanking you and showing what can be done when people work together. If you do get a claim, dispute it and it'll be cleared straight away he explained this in an interview. But pause away that's why we're here. Just letting you know
I'm not 100 on this... I think the "Edit" in the video is deliberate and not actually a "censor", I think it is put in deliberately to set up the whole Rap without Ren rhyme scheme, as in "deleted word, with no one to complain too", you are left thinking somethings off, it's whack somethings missing, then the scheme continues on and you realise that it's all about things being off and whack...
So far I've seen 'f@ggot', 'freak out', and 'flick knife' suggested, and none of those make sense to me. The amusing choice would be 'like a Karen with no one to complain to' but I'm just making that up. Yours is the best solution I've seen so far.
Let’s try this again😉

Love those shirts boys, and RIP Pun, Big L, JMJ, Biz, ODB, all those other legends. One love from Scotland. 💙
Fun fact: Ren released is "Sick Boi" album in October, and released it on cassette tape (as well as vinyl, CDs, and digital). He made three different designs for the cassettes. It was a super cool throw back. I had to buy them lol!
Very unique in today’s day and age !
Got a no.1 album in UK too. Not many independent artists can say that!!
No indie artist in the UK can say that, can they? Or in the US?❤
I believe Ren would have loved to film in your area.
That would be legendary!
I'm 43 guys- the mixed tape for me was my teenage LIFE in Oz ❤
He is a humble, beautiful person. Part of why we love him so much.
That's an interesting bit of nuance/international context to contribute to the conversation 👍
Great insight !
I agree
Hey twins, double thanks! I still love your accents so much. ❤🥧👑🔥
@@rebeccaburnell9319 Thank you, I’m glad you found it useful! I’m fascinated by how Ren taps into different regional accents (not always his own) in order to widen the rhyming options available to him without making it sound too forced.
The Nuclear reaction bar that ends with Supersize Me. Is Ren saying that he appreciates that the reactors have Supersized his audience.
Now that’s some research !
CD's first came out in 1982 in Japan. They made it to the US by March of following year
Glad you are enjoying our Sick Boi. Yet another 🔥🔥 song and a great reaction. Love from the UK. 🫶🫶🫶
Guys you need to do a few Humble and Domino ! Both are lyrical videos.. Older but really good !!
Aye is also Scottish for yes
Ren's flow, delivery, performance, lyrics... his LYRICS!?! All out of this World! As always! :) However, Ren's remix of the beat, all the added audio, especially the guitar, is just the icing on the cake! Just fantastic! :)
It was filmed on Macleod Trail SE, Calgary ❤
Oh cool!
got my first cd in 1984, nice work guys
CDs were around in the mid to late 80s. Tapes were still very much in use by the masses. In the nineties, the tape was also used in multitrack recording.
Great reaction to a great RENdition. Ren posted this:

My favorite thing about this video, watch the countdown for the crossing behind me at 0:57 then watch me unintentionally stop at 0... bit of unintentional serendipity gets me every time.
(That's my inner NY showing, though I've lived all over the country at this point and will make people's heads explode by using a "you'se guys" and a "y'all" in the same sentence 😂)
Also, from what I understand, you don't have to worry about the copyright thing with ren's music. He loves the whole reaction community and often watches and comments on them, and if it does get flagged for copyright and you let him know his people will clear it up for you.
I’m from cassette times that’s giving too much away 😂
Taping the radio pausing for the ads type of time!
It was classic
@@StrawhatDynasty it definitely was.
I actually was thinking yesterday I need to get a cassette player.
Ren makes his albums available in cassette .
I think it would be the best way to enjoy them.
Cd's or compact disks were invented in 1979 and released to the general public in 1982.
In the UK Cd's were launched in 1983 and within 24 months the range rose from 500 to thousands.
Cassette tapes and CD's were both commonly used in 1996, but tapes were on their way out.
And... internet did exist at that time - AOL - it just took an hour to load a basic HTML web page on your dial up connection lol.
REN is coming to New York in April, he said maybe the first couple of weeks...he said if anyone knows any fun things to do....hit him up ❤❤❤❤
How should we go about contacting him?
It's Calgary, Alberta Canada. I think he is there getting treated for Lyme disease.
Great reaction guys has always - from the year of 45s and 33s LPs and then tapes and CDs 😀 love and respect from the UK 👍👍😀😀🌟🌟 amazing channel 👍👍
You guys are so good
Thank you for this
Take care
🙏
Btw, you need to listen to the end again. Pausing it seconds from the end meant that you missed the reversal of the 'death is the cousin of sleep'' to 'sleep is the cousin of death, so save your breath...'. :)
ahh ok thanks !
💪💪
It's in Calgary. The same place he's been for the last 14 months. :)
Patiently waiting for the breakdance to a Ren track 🙃
Working on it !
I bought Illmatic on vinyl when it first came out, then replaced that with a CD a few years later, which I still listen to! 🖤
Classic !
Ha ha ha - "TH-cam - don't demonetize us"!!! You two are genuinely funny. Love your reactions. Thank you.
Haha thank you so much !
12:35 Hes goving a shout out to all the "Reactors" with them bars 😮 !!!
Was so excited to see this pop up today! Great reaction!💜
Thank you !
Great reaction guys.
I remember the cassette or tape times. Sometimes you had the unavoidable Bandsalat.
❤ Ren-dition ❤ love it!
Gret reaction from you guys as always
Much love from Guatemala 🇬🇹
Really enjoying seeing what hip hop fans make of this retake…..Ren pays homage and puts his own twist on it …..love the Salute with Bars line 💜
Btw ….love the Astoria Warriors hat…..love the Warriors film….so recognised the font used on that one. Thanks guys 🔥
Classic film!
@@StrawhatDynasty💯….one of my favourites.
The word blanked out was flick knife you two are great 🇬🇧
You are awesome!
But how does "flick knife with no one to complain to" make sense? He also says "cut you with a flick knife" in all four BLIND EYED videos with no pixilation, so why here?
The blurred out word maggot with a F it's a throw back to the original 😮 that's the theory anyway 😊
He's on MacLeod Trail in Calgary
Got it !
Thank you for covering that Pause the tape and eject bar. Small detail, but clever bar
That’s what we’re here for !! Thank you for taking the time to watch 🙏
Thanks so much for checking us out and we appreciate your appreciation!
Enjoying this Ren journey with you. BTW, I am a real fan I can 💯 tell you apart looks and personality! ❤
Thanks for noticing !
About the press pause and eject. As you guys know Halftime was the halfway point on Illmatic. What did you have to do after Halftime? Press pause then eject, take the tape out and flip it over to side B for the rest of the album.
Calgary, Alberta 🇨🇦 always welcomes Ren. ♥️
As always absolutely love your reactions and breakdowns.
The memes in between always have me in stitches 😂
You guys seem so well rounded and so rich in culture, well versed in the greats.
I really really love to see it and also love learning off you guys as well.
“Another one ☝️ “
Woooooo this was great! 🔥🔥
Don’t stress about stopping. We’re here for your thoughts and comments! We are here for your reactions!! So happy you got to react to the one. I thought of you two when this dropped. ❤
As other people mentioned, if you get a copy right strike with Ren, he’ll lift it. He loves the reactions.
This one was wicked. Thank you again for the quality upload. 🔥🔥You nailed this. 🔥🙌🏻
Much love to you both. ❤❤
Thank you so much !!! Always appreciate your comments! This one was fun to react too!
I ignored all the other reactions to this vid waiting to see you guys do it. Because the twinsies do it best!
Great reaction, but please dont forget the money game series, pt 2 and pt 3 are insane.
You rock and we def will get to them !
Compact disks came out around 1982 but wasnt common in the UK until around 1995 from what i remember
Informative !
Fun fact "burgerbar" is the top burger spot in the netherlands 😂
Now I know where I’m eating 😂
I think Ren said filmed in Canada.(on his fb story) He lives there while getting treatments ✌🏽
I love how you two brake it down and explain it, it's impressive. x
Thanks for the thought out comment ! Will get to your suggestions!
So happy you said the word “homage” the right way. Great reaction as always
Thank you 🙌
you guys are absolutely by far one of my favourite reactor channels on youtube. I love the depth in which you analyse the music as well as the amazing vibe you bring to the channel.
😂Your videos are highly educational! 10/10, recommend.
Might still have some mix-tapes buried in my closet...
He's in Canada. Calgary, Alberta to be exact.
I had many shoeboxes filled with Tdk metal tapes lol.
I still do! 😂
Oh I spent hours making mix tapes😂😂 great reaction guys!! From your fellow twin originally from NY!
I get that from the Arctic Monkeys, references to Hunter's Bar in Sheffield where I lived for a couple of years.
Great reaction again guys - but I can absolutely assure you that CD’s were well and truly around at this time! They’d been on the market probably nearly 10 years!
Thanks for the info!
Ren's retake is also half of time of of the original 2 minutes 13 (clever), CD's had been out for almost a decade but tape was still prevalent, so much to digest in such a short homage.
And the 213 zip code is where?
Wicked reaction Brothas! Do you. Always. You like that old school, my era. "Castles Made of Sand" for sure, hits that wicked early 90's, back ally beat. "Ahiahiahoha" Ft. Bibi ( Bonus Track) has some funk with the beat and story🔥🔥🔥! Halftime was just something special. Wicked superb lyricism. I really hope Nas gets to see it.
You too are freaking adorable and you don't miss a trick on theese reactions ❤
Check out "make my way" and "love music pt2" for the end references
Ren is in Calgary , he’s been their 2 years getting treatment
CD's were introduced in '82, but weren't real common until around '85. All the original Hip Hoppers were breakin' on cassette or LP. I still have a Grand Master Flash cassette in my coll. 🤘🤙✌️
Beast ten reaction on this retake I’ve
Heard.👍
Thank you !
Ren announced he will be in NY in April to film his music video with Chris Webby. Prof said he's waiting on Ren's verse on a song. And rumor has it there is an NF collab coming as well!!! 💙
Loving the Ren reactions. Someone figured out that the bleeped out word is feminist because Ren used comments from the original Nas video for that verse. ❤
If you wanna catch lyric you need to pause n rewind! Keep doing what ya doing! Love you guys much respect :-)
My car is 27 years old and certainly has a mc player. I ordered the “sick boi” album on a tape and eventually I have some new music in the car 😂
Ren no copyright. He loves reaction community
Ren doesn’t copyright I think there is someone you can connect to get put on the reactor list. I’m sure someone here will know who it is.
💣🔥❤️🔥 RENdition
You know it !
Just letting you know
You rock !
