Some background info from her dad...
Lauren started playing piano at age 6 and it was clear she had a talent for it very soon after. I played her The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway when she was 12 and she was very impressed. She asked if I thought she could learn it. I told her I didn't see why not. We found the music online and she started working on it. It took a lot of practice to be able to play it up to speed. After that, it became a bit of a game to see how fast she could play it, after all, part of the appeal of the piece is that it's fast and technically challenging. The piano in the video is an electric with very quick action, which allowed her to play it much faster than she could on her piano at home. And so to answer all of the people who keep asking "why so fast?", I'll quote her uncle who used to get asked the same question about his guitar playing...
"I like to play fast for the same reason I like to drive fast, because it's fun!"
This performance was for a middle school spirit week assembly. She was asked to perform because she had won the school talent show with the same performance.
She now plays bass guitar in a band with her brother. They are called Spike The Media, and they have released two albums of progressive pop/rock music. spikethemedia.com

One of my favourite Tony Banks pieces. I love it when I see the younger generation appreciate old farts (like me) music and play it perfectly, even if is played a lot faster than original, it still holds up! It just goes to show great music is timeless. Well done little lady! Respect!

That's why I dislike that version too lol. However I think there's a difference between a personal interpretation and showing off your technical piano skills when you're 12-13 years old. ('cause I used to do that too back in the music school days)
A lot of people imitate Tony Banks, but nobody will ever sound as good as Tony. Tony is a genius. He invented this technique. Bravo Tony.

I wish people stopped making kids feel music is yet another competition in life. Too many of those around, music can exist without that sense of arrogance, and, believe it or not, most of the most beautiful music you hear comes from a very private, solitude, point of creation, with no aim to be "better than". Sorry for the rant, that "fast" on the title is just obnoxious.
Not even Banks played it this fast in the original recording. Regardless, this isn't easy at any speed. I give her props.

This clip is interesting. It shows what many of us believe when we start with music and instruments. Faster means better, when in reality speed just doesn't mean anything. Phrasing, expression, emotion, etc are more important imo.

I was watching video of someone playing this and my daughter became interested. She asked me if I thought she could learn how to play it and I told her I didn't see why not. She learned it and then some. :)
