This is the best performance/tutorial of this on TH-cam! Thank you so much. I am a composer/keyboardist and both Genesis and Tony Banks' music are very close to my heart. I've learned much of their material but there were quite a few things I couldn't quite pick up on by ear that you have clarified and played beautifully!
You make fabulous videos with a brilliant , in depth tutorial. I really like the way you show what both hands do in what sequence. It makes it very easy to follow. The hard bit is putting it all together courtesy of Tonk Banks. Many thanks Andrew for what you do.
This is brilliant, thank you! I've wanted to learn this for so long and was too intimitdated to even attempt it. Can't wait to get home to my piano and get started!
I'm new to the wonders of Genesis but love this brilliant video... I write my own music but am loving starting to add some (humble attempts) at prog to my folk, blues and classical influences... Thank you so much! 😊 🎶
Thank you so much Helen! Nice to hear it from you. Listened to some wonderful songs on your channel...Time is actually prog, reminded me of Enya ( with a guitar played in a Marillion style ). Great stuff!
Towards the end of the video in the upper left hand corner where it says which notes/chords you should be playing it says "h" and "h#" quite a few times. What does "h" mean?
Oops - sorry Mark, it was German)). A good point. German H is English B, and German B is English B flat. Have just mixed it...That is , H = B for the english speaking audience.
Thank you so much for this video!! 3:22 Here you are playing you are playing C6+A5 twice, but when you play with both hands at 3:45, you are only playing that once (otherwise the whole thing doesn't line up at the end heh). Is that correct?
The sequence at 3:45 is correct! At 3:22 , I am explaining WHICH chords/invertions you are about to use ( Em - D#dim ), and on 03:45 - HOW, and in which order they are being played in this pattern. It is also extremely helpful to exercise Em with a right hand ( all invertions/ different speeds etc ) and D#dim with yout left ( inversions, leaps etc ) before you get to the final product. So, chords, invertions, exercise = 3:22, the final sequence = 3:45. Enjoy!
Thank you Steve! Well I am playing this onstage with a Genesis - Floyd tribute band ( GenFloyd ), so the fingering would really work in any case. The transcription / piano score is actually from Eric Johnsen ( Genesis Transcriber account on YT ), I am just explaining here how to play this crazy stuff)))
Did this have a purpose? Did your son teach you how to play this piece? Are you saying this is wrong? What exactly did he do without? Is your son a savant?
That run has eluded me for decades. You explained it in two minutes! Thank you!

Thank you for your comment Paul! Wish you good luck with it - you will see it's possible!
@@andrewrou As long as I can stick to my metronome routine and not try to play at full speed until I am ready, lol!
Thank you very much
Very nice indeed, Thanks Andrew!
Glad if it was helpful!👍
The Lamb è un intro geniale
Verissimo
This is perfect; I had most of it down but there were a few nuances I was missing. Performing this as a one-shot in April.
Have fun , wish ya success in April!
Reminds me of a piano piece or etude by Ravel called The Ondine.
I guess Banks was influenced by Debussy and Ravel in general ( the harmonies... ) so yes u are right
Big Help Thanks!

My pleasure Peter!

@@andrewrou Awesome. Thank you. I am from New York in the USA so when I saw the "h" I had no idea what was going on.
Been working on part 2 for about a month now wow
Respect!! "Slow and steady wins the race...."))
Guao que bien explicado!!!

Wunderbar! Amazing. Thank you for dissecting this piece of music. How long did it take you to transcribe this? Danke.

What is "H"?
Sorry, I ( pretty often ) think German when speaking English. H ( German ) = B ( English ). Btw B ( German ) = B b ( English ).
On the first, going good, 2nd prt looks kinda hard. Like nails. Good vid! 👍
I don't know. My son learned it without all this. Though, if it works - great!
