Why do you keep calling it a jrpg? first off, its honestly hardly an RPG, its a platformer and its combat is more action based. only thing "rpg" about it is it has a leveling system which feels kinda pointless as you can entirely ignore it, leveling up doesnt do much for you than increase stats you cant see. more importantly, nothing about it is "J", its made a developer located out of Los Angles California. It is not a Japanese RPG.
@@tonkahanah5890 Valkyrie Profile was a turn-based hybrid RPG, basically. It wasn't JUST real-time combat, but turn-based bursts of real-time action. And yet, strategic number and party management mattered as much as twitch skills. It's just that VP required some real-time action, in order to make the RPG layer more meaningful. (Characters needed to gain numerical experience, in order to be released. Skill cooldowns are linked to discrete turns, etc.)
sure, Valkyrie Profile may have been more of that, but this game is not Valkyrie Profile. the only thing rpg about this game is a level system which hardly seems like enough to really be an rpg.
3MRs are getting better and better. This one was incredibly dense. I've only ever glimpsed this game, but now I feel like I've seen so many of its facets in so little time.
I would argue that for a cake, the frosting can be as good as it wants to be but the accual thing its built ontop of needs to work alone for it to be great
Carlos Gutierrez Well I've always enjoyed the Cream on the cake ( rather than frosting due to the lighter texture that doesn't make it too sweet) as the best part about the cake , cause while I'll like the cake , the cream on it just makes experience of having that said cake even better in my eyes .
I actually like the blend of platforming and rpg. It actually gives something nice to do between plot lines and actually feels adventurous. I haven't gotten to the second half but from what I hear it actually is a nice shake up from the typical plot line it starts with. The random difficulty spikes is annoying but not really once I understood the patterns. If I had any real criticism it will be the fact that you can't do much in customizing the characters personally, stat wise. The game is really unique and pretty much at for me feels like a steal for $40 bucks
The platforming in this game isn't even that hard. Personally I find this new take on a JRPG to be quite refreshing, the art work is outstanding and the battle system is quite interesting. I will admit the plot gets a but strange but overall I'd say this is a solid game.
To be fair, Super Neptunia RPG has platforming bits, but they aren't punishing at all. Compare that to Valkyrie Profile 1 and 2, where somewhat challenging puzzle platforming is REQUIRED in some areas, if you want to find certain save points inside dungeons. Gris has painless platforming. Did anyone ever complain about the platforming in that one? Not every platformer has "frustrating" challenges worthy of comment in a review.
The sandworm boss is actually very easy. The only people who complain about it are the folks who never realized that THE RUN COMMAND YOU LEARN AT THE START OF THE DUNGEON IS USED TO BEAT THE BOSS. Seriously, if you can't grasp the basic concept that mechanics introduced at the start of the dungeon will BE REQUIRED to beat the boss at the end of that dungeon, you need to play more games.
True as hell, I enjoy that Indivisible doesn't hold my hand and doesn't give me a prompt telling me to run into the worm every single time like most games do nowadays.
I feel like Indivisible was trying too hard to be like Shantae. It already had a unique combat system, so the whole platforming thing was kinda pointless. Personally, I think it would've fit better as an isometric puzzle game when out of combat, maybe with some minor platforming elements but nothing too difficult.
I've played basically all Shantae games, I haven't finished Indivisible but in no way is the platforming in it like Shantae, at all. In fact I'd say Indivisible's platforming is way more satisfying than shantae's (except for pirate's curse, that thing is a masterpiece).
Nah, but I do not blame you for thinking that. Shantae influences on this game is its art style. The gameplay, rpg mechanics and platforming all come from the original Valkyrie Profile game for PS1, is so surreal to see a spiritual successor of that specific game after decades. Also while there are sequels to Valkyrie Profile they all have different game play styles making Indivisible a spiritual successor
@@bruno17289 Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria adds an additional layer (mob arenas) between the platforming and the hybrid combat, but is otherwise a lot like VP1. Convenant of the Plume apparently used an entirely different turn-based system.
@@tcbvgames The change from 2d to 3d in my opinion drastically changed the game play. As for Covenant of the Plume, is a more depressing final fantasy tactics, game is solid but man that story is just depressing.
The platforming is easily some of the best designed content in the game, and with the regular "checkpoints" you respawn at when you fail a platforming challenge, it rarely feels like you're wasting your time, even on some of the more challenging stuff. Platforming damage was also blown out of proportion in this review, as it's only a real issue during the first part of the game before you get the first health upgrade, after which it's a minor issue that becomes negligible after the second health upgrade.
It's something between metroidivania and jrpg. Unlock abilities along progressing the plot to access new areas with sometimes difficult platforming, demanding from you to use all abilities you learned in one place.
Valkyrie Profile inspired this game's platforming/combat mix. But the platforming is WAY more cumbersome in VP. I'm curious how it plays out in this game, which looks way more user-friendly in terms of platforming.
@@ruigoncalves11 People can get better, if they feel compelled to do so. But I fear many folks playing this game as a "light" JRPG story with real-timey combat are going to be put off by the platforming bits, it they are too demanding.
I completely understand that, but reviewing a game badly simply because it's not what you thought it was is pretty dumb imo. The devs always showed exactly what type of game this was and they shouldn't get punished by reviews just because they merged more than one genre which resulted in a more niche game that doesn't appeal to every single person out there.
@@ruigoncalves11 Don't oversell it. Indivisible is a big girl and can take some constructive criticism. The platforming concerns won't affect my decision to sample this game, but they will affect some people who may find it frustrating. ALSO: Don't be That Gamer who complains every time a video shows imperfect gameplay. Reviewers are allowed to make mistakes, and the footage of a platforming mistake was an reasonable way to reinforce his point. As a Valkyrie Profile fan, I'll be thrilled if this game has BETTER platforming than VP.
It's not perfect, but I absolutely love this game despite it's flaws. And considering there's still 14 dlc characters, and Lab Zero's amazing support of their previous game (Skullgirls), I'd be very surprised if a lot of these issues weren't addressed in the future.
Is it just me or is the sound mixing in this game really bad? Sometimes the voices are too loud and sometimes I can't hear them at all. And I had a couple of times when the music didn't quiet down when they are talking.
Maybe it is too hard if you were expecting a turn-based jrpg. But if you were expecting an action/platformer/rpg (you know, the way the game has been advertised from the beginning) then you knew what sort of challenge you were getting into. That being said, I still have to play it.
To be fair, Super Neptunia RPG has platforming bits, but that aren't punshing at all. Compare that to VP 1 and 2, where somewhat challenging puzzle platforming is REQUIRED in some areas, if you want to find certain save points inside dungeons.
Hmm, I'm 7 hours in and I thought the sandworm was one of the easier bosses so far and it took him 10 hours to reach Ravannavar? I beat him in 4. This review's statements on difficulty are way off imo
Yeah... And claiming that the later hours were rushed compared to the beginning hours? Ajna's father is introduced and dies in practically ten minutes. An hour after that, I'm boarding an airship *already* looking to take down a big baddie. Also, breaking Zebei out and finding his bow right next to his cell because "the enemy must have been in a rush"? The game's a solid attempt by the devs and there are definitely some good hooks to keep people interested. However, it's definitely in need of work.
Dumb reviewer syndrome. There's no cure. The game outside of the axe being finicky at times though I played on Xbox one and that d pad while significantly improved over the 30 still isn't the best and I played the game with the stick and dpad.
As someone who just bought it and hasn't played it, ngl, if the gameplay is by the reviewer... He kind of comes off as someone who's a pretty amateurish player. Not really difficulty as more of a skill issue.
I agree with the review. To the people saying the platforming isn't hard, you're crazy. 90% of the time when you try to latch onto the wall with your axe, you fail. And thus you fall into a pit, take damage, and have to start over. Sometimes you have to fight an entire group of enemies again just to TRY the platforming again.
No, you're just bad but will say the axe was finicky at times but 90% not even close. I'd give you 20% which is a flaw for sure and mentioned it on my Xbox review of it.
Same, interestingly. I would love to play it just to see how the platforming/Jrpg mash up works, even if it’s bad. Seems like it’s doing an MGSV thing with the plot being contained in the first half and the rest being all over the place and epilogue-y. Another selling point for me, at least.
DonHewgodooko It’s a pretty good game from what I’ve experienced so far. I had zero trouble with all of the negative points they brought up personally (that worm boss fight was really easy, you just sprint to the enemy and the worm misses you every time). I haven’t had trouble with the platforming either, and I’m no pro.
This game feels a lot like Valkyrie Profile with a bit of Megaman thrown in for the Platforming segments. Not that it feels lazy or anything but it has to draw inspiration from somewhere and from the initial looks of the game, I think it shows a lot of promise.
You're correct, that's our error in the review. The Switch version is still TBD for a release date. Apologies and updated in the description in the video.
My gripe is combat balance. Aoe is king in this game. Attacks in general do similar damage so in order to progress a decent pace and not have fights last forever you need roster capable of hitting multiple enemies in a combo. Problem is there is only handful of heros that do this and none that i found that group up enemies together either through dragging together or toss one to another. The best way to solve this is to have characters get alternative attacks as you progress their story that provide more utility when handling multiple enemies.
After about halfway through the game, it seems like they stopped trying to balance anything. When the ideal way to play a jrpg is to pick the characters with the highest dps and button mash, there's a problem. When a singular enemy can one-shot you if you don't perfect shield, and can still kill you with it's full combo if you're unlucky, but the bosses don't come close to knocking you down, there's a problem
Having beaten the game, and agreeing with the review I would agree it sounds like a good idea, and is but the platforming it self is honestly not strong enough to be the focus but the second half of the game combat ends up being trivially easy and ratio of combat to platforming changes drastically towards the platforming end. I enjoyed the game a ton up until the first major milestone then I just feel like someone at the developer became weirdly enamored with their platforming mechanics and decided that was the game now. It is very jarring, and not well executed.
Loved the review however I have to hard disagree with the worm boss. All I did was use Heruka Hustle (running dash) to knock into the boss when he ran to the opposite end of the room which let me completely avoid the worm. The fight only took about 2 mins this way.
Lots of effort and care put on the art, not enough on the gameplay. And a game that takes more care of its art rather than its gameplay is a pompous failure.
Frankly, the Sand Worm ended up being one of the easiest bosses for me, and I felt like checkpoints were sometimes too plentiful, so I didn’t really have the same issues with the game compared to 3MR. My largest complaint so far is that it took me way too long to figure out the Serpent Queens gimmick, I sat there for almost 10 minutes unsure how to reengage combat. It just should’ve been hinted at a bit more prior, but a little experimentation gets you there in the end anyway
My first thought was to utilize what I had just learned in the area, so I feel like the boss should’ve utilized that process rather than what how you actually beat the boss (no spoilers). All I’m saying is that it wasn’t satisfying to reach the conclusion, more of a “wait, that’s what I had to do?”
He's not lying about platforming gets bad once you get to the final boss fight with Kala. They force a lot of the games abilities Anja gets to be used in rapid succession. The story takes a nosedive halfway through due to Ajna's constant need to remind Dhar of his terrible life choice. It gets to the point where Ajna goes from sounding like a mourning teen to just a bitchy character all around. Even after Dhar dies, she still finds the need to give him a backhanded compliment. Story was a 4/10 for me. Platforming was a 5/10.
Yea it starts off pretty good, with combat actually being a challenge at times, but the Sand Worm boss is like the last hard fight in the entire game. The other bosses just require a slight amount of platforming, then once you get into combat with them you can basically just mash every button till they phase again. In order to allow players to take on any route and defeat whatever bosses they want in order once the open world opens up, they just made every boss fight incredibly easy instead of having them scale to your level or anything like that. The most strategy required for any fight is "maybe bring a healer" though it's optional. There's definitely a problem with quantity over quality when it comes to the party members as well, certain companions are incredibly basic in what they can do and don't even do good dmg, making little point in using them, but the entire game could be beaten with any party member combination as it's just that easy.
I have played some of the game myself i say so.e as i just threw my controller and the game itself across the room the platforming the worst ive ever seen what type of bs gymnastics where they thinking its wildly in consistent as sometimes i can hit the axe against a wall and climb just fine and other times i pend an hour trying to do one jump as the axe hits the wall sparks and i fall
you can block every attack from the worm, what are you talking about? this guy played through the whole game without learning the timed block healing mechanic? fucking HOW?
The platforming is actually fine. It can be buggy at times, and there are some platforming puzzles that can be solved multiple ways. The folks complaining about it are JRPG fans who are bad at platforming games. Seriously, watch the footage in this review. Guy runs STRAIGHT into spikes like an idiot and complains about platforming.
Game quality aside, I refuse to support them after they decided for no good reason to censor minor eyecandy in SkullGirls. I love their game, and I love the art, but censorship is something I'm vehemently against.
checkpoints are infuriatingly common. you cant walk 5 steps without running into one and if you die during a platforming segment the game just reloads you seconds before where you died without even a game over screen. no fucking idea what your on about. and if you think the platforming segments are unforgiving then...idk what to tell ya.
Because ain't nobody got that kind of time. Masochistic, arcade-style games appeal to people with lots of time and not a whole lot of opportunity for other accomplishment. People with other shit to do find this artificial game-lengthening to be a boring time sink.
Practicing a game just so I CAN enjoy it is a waste of time if that practice is boring and frustrating. If the practice is made engaging though (in the case of platforming, short iteration time for quick repeats, movement that feels good regardless of failure and fluent gorgeous animation to dull the frustration of repeated failure) I'm more likely to soldier on instead of quitting due to boredom. If I feel like I'm wasting my time I usually stop wasting it. The practicing, like everything else, has to be engaging. In many cases it isn't. Platforming is one of the genres I see get "practice" right the most though. TLDR: if a game bores me with its practice I'll quit and do something more engaging and/or productive because I LITERALLY have better things to do at that point. Edit: typos and added note about getting practice right there at the end.
the reason i made this comment was because aside from the platforming being too hard the reviewer seemed to LOVE this game. don't play things that aren't fun, don't practice for no reason, live your lives lol. but like not every game has to be easy up front? sometimes it's fun to put in the extra like hour of dedicated effort to be better at a mechanic it's honestly not even much if you're really thinking about it unless the game is total bs. i'd do this for games that are really fun/interesting.
@@sweetmouse9870 ah, my apologies. We seem to have overinterpreted each other. I read some elitism akin to "people don't wanna git gud anymore, wtf" in your original comment. That might have been a hasty reading on my part. For my part I might have overexplained the obvious. Just a bit. Maybe. An hour of gaming time is A LOT to some people. You imply otherwise. It all depends on the circumstances of our lives of course but I can imagine a busy parent with a full time job only getting a precious few hours of gaming to themselves every week. Spending one of those hours on something akin to practice or preparation for the actual game might be a lot less palatable in their situation. An hour spent dying to Smough and Ornstein sucks all the more if an hour or two is all the time you had left over for gaming that day and was half the time you're going to get that week. Dark souls might in such a situation become incompatible with your life despite you liking it and it being a stellar game. Not being a parent myself I might be VASTLY overestimating the time and energy that goes into raising and caring for children, though my relatives lead me to believe it's quite draining (and rewarding mind you) leaving you with very little YOU time. Kind of trailing of and waxing philosophical here, oops. I think i was going somewhere with this, at some point. Every time I contemplate parenthood I feel me gratitude towards my own parents grow. It really is a remarkable thing they did. This realisation must be a near-universal thing right? As I said, if I had a train of thought it has long since been derailed. Sorry. /Shrug. I should probably go sleep now. Clock is deep into the AMs at time of writing.
To me the platforming wasn't really difficult, a bit annoying but not really difficult. It is just that the latter half after you get the pirate captain the plot starts to run all over the place and get a bit grindy. Then there is the fact that you have so many characters but only 3 slots to use each one. I felt like okay....I have 9+ characters many whom I like But I couldn't do anything with them. The MC can't be switched out because it is her realm in her head. Other than that it is overall a good game once you get passed the annoying bits after the opening hours.
"Level of input precision like a fighting game" for platforming... yeah, no. This is more like some areas in Metroid or games like Celeste, or have you ever had to input forward,down,forward-down-right-B to do anything in Indivisible? Or quartercircle inputs? Yeah, didn't think so.
Turn-Based RPGs ≠ Japanese RPG, though if it helps, the combat system and it's melding with platforming is based on the Valkyrie Profile JRPG series, though more intricate than I recall the platforming beings.
Hey dude your review has many good points BUT, that Sand Worm boss fight is by no means the hardest one, you actually fought him wrong, the Sand Worm is unpredictable, but he is not the enemy of that battle, you are not meant to evade him, the gimmick of that battle is that there is a mage that is calling the worm, he teleport from one end of the screen to the other one, you need to hit him before he calls the worm, you just have to use your newly acquired ability to sprint and hit him before he teleports away, I did that and the worm hit me twice, but it did not matter as when you sprint you have some poise, this fight is meant to familiarize you with the sprint ability.
you really think he got through that whole bossfight without knowing that? seriously? honestly think that through for a second. he clearly talks about later halves of the game, and the only way to even fight that boss is to hit the wizard. come on man.
@@fluffyking94 Yeah but he says the worm keeps hitting him, if you sprint the worm does not hit you. The boss battle is easy because you are suppose to sprint and hit the wizard.
Really? I beat it 1st try. Just do the run that turns you blue, it dodges the sand worm and auto damages the boss to start the fight just by running into him
did you not know, in spite of what the reviewer thinks, that you CAN block the worm's attacks? or just run out of it's range? it beat me twice, but I wouldn't call it that bad. I actully beat him the hard way by juggling the wizard with my arrows, instead of rushing him. (felt real stupid for not figuring out I could just run at him tell after I beat him.)
I dont see it just as a JRPG, I believe the cross with platformers makes it more original if a bit frustrating, but from my experience thats the standard platformer experience, you can dodge the bosses out of fight attacks as if you were playing super mario bros so its not that hard as he makes it sound, I actually quite like I've got some agency over wether or not I'm getting hit besides a Stick of Truth like, parry at the right moment mechanic. The real problem is the story, it has tons of potential, but is ridiculously rushed, and I mean you get 5 minutes to meet the village you live in before it gets burned to the ground, levels of rushed, all characters are great and humor is on point but the drama falls flat without enough build up. In conclussion gameplay is worth it if you like platformers and JRPGS but dont expect much besides cracking a few laughs from the story.
Finally! Some nuance and investment in the reading of the review! Excellent. Also, y'all definitely know what the Internet is going to do to this game. Don't deny it.
My first thought: why would you "waste" 30s in a 3:30m review on a cut-scene? That's a 7th of the entire video that kind said nothing about the game. Weird!
Some viewers might be curious how the voice acting sounds. Giant Bomb's Quick Look got a few complaints from folks who wanted to see the story, but the players skipped most of the cutscenes. I don't mind, since I usually skip cutscenes in my videos,to focus on gameplay. But some consumers want to know how the English acting sounds.
The narrative and writing is atrocious. Case in point is the game's introduction, which briefly presents the MC's father, kills him immediately in a supposedly emotional moment, and seconds later you are roaming the world with your father's killer as your best buddy for no reason. To add insult to injury, the voice actors voice their character's lines out of context, which means the MC can be going around merry & happy just two seconds after watching her father's death. In addition, and as mentioned in the review, neither the RPG gameplay nor the platforming are strong enough to carry the game, so the end result is, unfortunately, a mediocre offering despite some amazing animation and character design.
I think you are being to harsh on the game, for whats its worth its a unique jrpg styled game . With heavy metroidvania influence and alot of humor buried in it. There is also a hidden boss in the game to and yes the platforming can be difficult. The art is simply so good and I love the diversity of characters and the flavor. Also I feel like the game is still in beta. I think they said on stream there is dlc coming, so I hope the game sells well, because it has ALOT of potential. Also one thing that triggers me is baozai not having a coin cointer for her passive. lol
This is a great example of why Angels of the garden shouldn't be the main target of the planet. It's helping to communicate the situation here, but Angels are supposed to be green supremacists... So without the message that plants are more important than us, this makes it seem like the angel icon is dominating and selling to be SERVED. ANYTHING an angel should need is already being provided by plantlife, so there's no justification for an angel to seek service. This looks nice and even addresses some of the issues of Angelhood, but unless there's something I'm missing about it, it's lacking the ESSENTIAL message that Angels serve plants.
Can we talk about the boob animation for a second? They don't bounce like that when you're just standing there. Why do games keep doing this kind of thing?
This to me is an horrible review. Indivisible never intended to be a simplistic rpg and giving it a bad review simply because you're bad at platformers doesn't sit right with me.
@@pookie0824 It's a 3 minute video using fairly basic terminology, and you apparently can't understand it. I'll gladly be a lemming that understands basic concepts, rather than whatever you call yourself.
To rebutle your review i feel like indivisible has unique platformimg but it shouldnt be to difficult it has metrovania elements ro it so that shpuldnt be a surprise. along with the figjting game mechanics with the cpmbo system and the diferent styles of traversing once you unlock the abiaties gives younmore time to explore and different options to approach places n get rewarded with a jem at the some what hard to reach places. So i dont necessarily agree. But ya the backtracking is a bit much if it had quick travel or portals like they do in the middle of the game then ya either than that its a great game u just need to git gud son. Jk but ya i dont nessisarily agree but hey thats just a certain point of view also BUY SKULLGIRLS its a great game along with supporting lab zero ladies and gentelmen its showtime!!!!!
The problem here is that it is an RPG. It feels like it is trying to do too much. It should have just been an RPG. As is there are already a bunch of people giving it bad reviews on steam because they bought an RPG and ended up with pretty strict platforming. It would be less irritating if the save system wasn't such a pain too. I bought it on steam and can relate to all of the reviewers headaches. I LIKE the platforming. I just wish it was more forgiving or more separate from the fights. Losing a fight because of the platforming beforehand feels bad. That being said I did like the platforming mid-bossfight. But again. They should tone it down. And no I didn't just respond because my name is also Emmanuel. :)
@@emmanueludoidung5745 i disagree i feell like its not easy but its not that insanlely difficult as well but then again this falls into my type of game play i like platformers i love fughting games n rpgs so combine all that with the lab 0 style its my game but ya i can agree with u if u are just a lerson just thinkimg its gonna be a plain rpg n surprised to see a metriodvania game then yes i can see that the save system as sell there are enough check points to go around but if the save was on the pause menu it would be far more easier n less of a hassle to play esspecially when u have a errand to run or u just want a quick gaming session
@@emmanuelosorio6676 My problem is how the save system works, it is a checkpoint system not a save system. So if you save...go pick up orb, backtrack and save again, then die in a fight you have to go pick up the orb all over again. You lose not just progress but things that you have acquired which seems silly in an RPG. On the steam page it is listed as: RPG, Indie, Action, Female Protagonist, Anime. No sign of metroidvania. Even the games devs describe it as an Action-RPG. As such I view it as an RPG with some platforming elements. In which case it should cater to RPG fans. Also it's not about how difficult the platforming is but how it is incorporated into the rest of the game. The main draw of an RPG is the story. The main draw of a metroidvania is the platforming and exploration. Seems like this game needed to be more focused on what it intends to achieve. Also I would like to point out that there are tonnes of Metroidvania's out there. Much better than this game is as one. But when it comes to gorgeously animated, 2D, Valkyria Profile.....vanias.... Well I can't think of many.
@@emmanueludoidung5745 ok i see your point i didnt k ow any of these nuances when it comes to subgenres of games so thanx man appreciate it also i do agree with u that rpgs do mainly focus on the story but to me its the platforming is giod im not trying to strong man anything now i can see the other sides point thanks for pointing it our man. Again to me the game seems fine for what its doing being a RPG with a metroudvania style game less than an action rpg because whrn i think ARPG o think more of the 3rd person over the shoulder type of rpg.
That was a very fair review which highlights great flaws and weaknesses. Nothing wrong with a platformer, but the difficulty might be too much for a person who primarily plays rpgs

The platforming in this game isn't even that hard. Personally I find this new take on a JRPG to be quite refreshing, the art work is outstanding and the battle system is quite interesting. I will admit the plot gets a but strange but overall I'd say this is a solid game.
Yeah, I agree that the platforming isn't particularly difficult. I think it's challenging enough to be satisfying to some.
4 years later this game still looks amazing. I might get it!
"Sandworm attacks that you can't block"
*proceeds to block sandworm attacks* 2:05
It is, by far, some people are just bad.
This is the most positive review this channel has given in a WHILE
Is it just me or is the sound mixing in this game really bad?
Final Fantasy: Skullgirls Edition
Not gonna lie, the art style reminds me of shantae, to the point that i expected to be from the same studio. Still looks like a fun game to play
I saw r34 of this before I even knew it existed.
Does anyone know if there an option to turn off the stupid screen shake gimmick??
This sounds like it's trying to be overall negative on the game... but all those flaws kinda make me want it more.
When I first saw it I was intrigued and now tbh idk. If you do get it let me know what you think about it?
Same, interestingly. I would love to play it just to see how the platforming/Jrpg mash up works, even if it’s bad. Seems like it’s doing an MGSV thing with the plot being contained in the first half and the rest being all over the place and epilogue-y. Another selling point for me, at least.
This review has left me really disappointed. Was going to pick this one up but all those negative points totally put me off. Damn shame.
Wait, I thought it was coming out later for Nintendo switch or is that just for digital download?
You're correct, that's our error in the review. The Switch version is still TBD for a release date. Apologies and updated in the description in the video.
Looks pretty good still. I’d give it a try
I got stuck at the first or second boss cause the platforming in between the fights keeps draining my health
Game is really good, except the story's pacing. It's 0/1000 without any breaks, it's really jarring. solid 7/10.
Elijah surprised me, I was expecting my cynical usual host. Tehe! Welcome!
But...you get fully healed after battle...
This game is clearly meant for a controller. Keyboard is a nightmare.
Beginning looked nice!
I don't see what's too bad about the mix of platforming and turn based JRPG. I think it's a pretty damn good idea and sounds like a lot of fun.
The game is overall bad. 2/10
So the worm, you can outrun it by just dash running
I can't wait for the switch release.
Loved the review however I have to hard disagree with the worm boss. All I did was use Heruka Hustle (running dash) to knock into the boss when he ran to the opposite end of the room which let me completely avoid the worm. The fight only took about 2 mins this way.
hey i kickstarted this game! This review still seems pretty positive despite the critiques, happy to hear that ;)
It’s $7 On The E Shop Now, Should I Get It 😅
I got it during that sale. I honestly don't think it's worth much more than that because the platforming is kinda crappy from the clunky controls.
This game is insanely underrated l rarely see anyone talk about it
He's not lying about platforming gets bad once you get to the final boss fight with Kala.
I think the idea of trying to marry the two genre's has potential myself but I guess we'll see cos just trying it doesn't mean it will work
Yea it starts off pretty good, with combat actually being a challenge at times, but the Sand Worm boss is like the last hard fight in the entire game.
Love those critics that is not affraid of telling all the pros and cons of a game, usually they make a game review simple teling if it is good or bad
you can block every attack from the worm, what are you talking about? this guy played through the whole game without learning the timed block healing mechanic? fucking HOW?
The platforming looks fun so I might pick this up on sale sometime.
@@ixis yeah maybe I'll get it for the holidays after I hear how it holds up by then. Not dismissing it just got a lot to do.
Odd, the mix between the platforming, and RPG is actually one of the reasons I want this game, buy hey, to each their own🤷♂️
Woah this game is actually finished???
Game quality aside, I refuse to support them after they decided for no good reason to censor minor eyecandy in SkullGirls. I love their game, and I love the art, but censorship is something I'm vehemently against.
I didn't hear about the censorship. What did they cut out, and why?
checkpoints are infuriatingly common. you cant walk 5 steps without running into one and if you die during a platforming segment the game just reloads you seconds before where you died without even a game over screen. no fucking idea what your on about. and if you think the platforming segments are unforgiving then...idk what to tell ya.
if it's so good why begrudge a learning curve?
i don't get why people are so resistant to practicing a game at all these days
Edit: typos and added note about getting practice right there at the end.
the reason i made this comment was because aside from the platforming being too hard the reviewer seemed to LOVE this game. don't play things that aren't fun, don't practice for no reason, live your lives lol. but like
not every game has to be easy up front? sometimes it's fun to put in the extra like
hour
of dedicated effort
to be better at a mechanic
it's honestly not even much if you're really thinking about it unless the game is total bs.
i'd do this for games that are really fun/interesting.
Yeah, didn't think so.
i'm not sure you know what 'precision' means
Really hope this game gets recognised for top rpg of the year contender
Oh no a fair review on the game's flaws, watchout for all the incoming downvotes
fair? you even play the game yet? his complaints aren't really valid (except maybe with the story)
😥 It looked so nice, wish it wasn't half-platformer...
Someone's never played Valkyrie Profile lol
That sand worm nearly cost me my sanity. eugh.
Really? I beat it 1st try. Just do the run that turns you blue, it dodges the sand worm and auto damages the boss to start the fight just by running into him
Same, you literally get that power before that boss so I think it's pretty obvious what you have to do.
did you not know, in spite of what the reviewer thinks, that you CAN block the worm's attacks? or just run out of it's range? it beat me twice, but I wouldn't call it that bad. I actully beat him the hard way by juggling the wizard with my arrows, instead of rushing him. (felt real stupid for not figuring out I could just run at him tell after I beat him.)
Why does the Art Style reminds me of Little Witch Academia? While the gameplay reminds me of Valkyrie Profile...
Probably because some of the animation was done by Trigger, the studio that did Little Witch Academia. Not all of it, but some.
Best schizophrenia ever?
POWER STONES!!!!
2:56 ...but the latter half of -Indivisible- _literally every JRPG_ feels like it was thrown together way too hastily.
After playing dragon quest 11, I can't agree more
My first thought: why would you "waste" 30s in a 3:30m review on a cut-scene? That's a 7th of the entire video that kind said nothing about the game. Weird!
Some viewers might be curious how the voice acting sounds. Giant Bomb's Quick Look got a few complaints from folks who wanted to see the story, but the players skipped most of the cutscenes.
I don't mind, since I usually skip cutscenes in my videos,to focus on gameplay. But some consumers want to know how the English acting sounds.
Sounds like you're just not into platforming
YOU AND NICOB UPLOADED AN INDIVISIBLE VID AT THE SAME TIME
who?
This is what happens when you put an RPG Guy to play a Metroid like :p
I like this new lad
Valkyrie Profile clone game.

Can we talk about the boob animation for a second? They don't bounce like that when you're just standing there. Why do games keep doing this kind of thing?
Looks good but the voice acting is one of the worst i've heard.
I guess you didn't play Horizon Zero Dawn yet. Jeje
Accuracy quibble... they class it as an ARPG.
Why does this review keep calling it a jrpg? It's not a jrpg if it's not made in Japan
Not a Yahtzee review???? Huh...
Zero Punctuation is still running and rockin' its snark, this is a new show meant to be a short but straight forward review.
I think they review the same game sometimes but it's a gap.
I mean, get good at Parkour then.
This to me is an horrible review. Indivisible never intended to be a simplistic rpg and giving it a bad review simply because you're bad at platformers doesn't sit right with me.
Why does he keep calling this a Jrpg? Was this made in Japan?
Platformer hell is my least favorite indie crutch. I almost quit Hollow Knight at the end because of it.
Good JRPG bad platformer.. Sounds just like Child of Light

On the steam page it is listed as:
RPG, Indie, Action, Female Protagonist, Anime.
That voice acting is awful.. I hope one can turn it off... :(
