In the US, NBC is the official broadcaster for the Olympics. If you think the IOC only briefly showing the images along the river of some important people from French history was annoying/frustrating then you’ll understand my frustration with NBC’s coverage where at various points they’ll cut away to go to their camera to show Team USA waiting around on the boat (and sometimes interview the athletes). They did it A LOT during the show. I personally loved this opening ceremony and the fact that it took place throughout the city along the river AND that the “parade of nations” was intertwined with the artistic portions of the show. I mean, I am a bit of what English speakers call a francophile and I definitely have a tad bit of a fandom for the city of Paris (my niece’s middle name is Paris, yes after the city, which my sister chose after a conversation with me about some name choices she had come up with) so since I knew Paris was going to host the Olympics I have planned to watch! The image of the singer atop the Grand Palais singing the National Anthem was incredibly striking and moving! It looked like something from a movie! It was great! It’s good to hear it was also moving for people watching in France. I appreciate learning more about the women whom the statues represented. The commentators on NBC didn’t say much about them and I didn’t catch the names so I could try to lookup more about them later. There was a song when the French athletes passed under the bridge?! Oooh I wish we’d been able to hear that on the US broadcast! Once Team USA’s boat had officially gone by, NBC kept cutting back to the boat to show the athletes and interview them so we didn’t see or hear a lot during this segment because even if we were seeing the video of what was happening the athlete interviews could still be heard over the video or the commentators were talking about Team USA. And yes I did find it annoying. It’s why I watched the 2020 and 2022 Olympics opening and closing ceremonies on my PC with a VPN instead of on tv on NBC. I’m familiar with Mylène Farmer. I didn’t realize that was her song (to be fair lots of talking by the commentators at this point so hearing the music was difficult until it got to the Imagine song). A friend from Canada (not from Quebec) introduced me to Mylène Farmer many years ago. I loved the scene of the horse running down the river. It was a moment when I didn’t think the show could surprise me any more and then this happened! Have I mentioned that I’m a huge Celine Dion fan? Well I am and seeing her perform was sooooooooo great! I got introduced to her in junior high when I was learning French and it’s because I loved her voice and personality and could easily find her French albums at my local music store that I kept wanting to learn French. So yeah seeing her perform was a big moment for me and a great way for the ceremony to conclude. Thanks again for making this video and sharing your thoughts and opinions as well as explaining and educating on so many things that happened. I really, really, really, really appreciate it!
Oh wow thank you so much for your comment and to share your opinion!! ❤️ First I love the fact that Céline Dion kinda made you learn French language haha, and definitely her closing the opening was the best way to do it! I think it’s quite disrespectful for a broadcaster to not show everything of the ceremony, but in the same time I understand. For example French Television did it for the closing ceremony, but they always showed us two footages in the same time. Definitely Paris is an amazing name and symbol I approved haha 😁 So happy that you’ve been introduce to Mylène Farmer music world, the song they played was “Désanchanté” her most successful track! 😉 You should definitely learn more the 10 women’s they presented, all of them are feminists but with a different history. 🇫🇷 Ants a huge thanks again for your words, I really appreciate ❤️🫶🏻
J'aime vraiment ton analyse. Greetings from Brazil!
Bonjour or I must say Bom Dia! 😉 I love your comment thank you so much to share your opinion about the opening ceremony! ❤️ I agree with all the things you said haha 😜
