  • Two summer, daytime sessions (recorded on 19.06.22 and 08.07.22) originally targeting plaice at Shoreham, West Sussex (UK). I was trying out the Beach Road section, which is half way between The Church of the Good Shepherd and The Burrells, which I have covered in previous videos. The first trip was a struggle and it took a long time for the target species to turn up; the second was a much more successful outing, with my attention turning to Golden Grey Mullet, which were keen to bite, but difficult to hook. Other species were caught and a range of different rigs were employed.

A nice variety of species Michael. Busy beach in the summer though. Got to be on your guard with all those dogs that are roaming free. The owners would be the first to start shouting if one was hooked. Great video as always.

Great video Rod, fantastic to see mullet being caught from the beach. Only ever caught them on the fly and float! Well done for fishing through the swimmers too, that takes patience!

Thanks again Bill 👍 I would love to catch mullet and bass fly fishing and will give that a go sometime - maybe in Christchurch harbour.

Another great video. Ive had several golden greys from the same stretch of beach. All of which came up on small lug or rag baits at around 60-80 yards presented on 18" snoods on a light Bass rod on which they give a good scrap.
I found any longer and i often missed the bites. My biggest was 2lb 6oz. Also on the same rigs produced several red mullet. You were lucky with the bathers. Ive had them sunbathe in front of my tripod.

Interesting - thanks for sharing Andy. Some anglers target GGs with long flowing Urfe rigs, tiny hooks and maddies close in. I've yet to give that a go; but would what to try when the beach is devoid of other users - I'm sure swimmers close in have an impact on catches!

You seem to have the patience of a saint, I sadly have no love for dog walkers any more, I was sat watching my rods, and heard shouts, someone was close by behind me, turns out it was their dogs, I must have left the top of my cool bag half open, their dog was in there trying to eat my sandwiches, then it tried to eat my bait, all I got was abuse for "leaving food out" on another session someone's dog came up and peed on my rod bags, they found it quite funny, not one of them was "under control" and they had no consideration for anyone else.

Spending a lot of time on crowded beaches allows you to formulate strategies to cope with such hazards; however you will, from time to time, come across novice / irresponsible dog owners / parents that need educating. There are novice / irresponsible anglers too and conflict management is a skill worth learning.
I get quite a few people coming up to me telling me I shouldn't be fishing whilst others are on the beach; but its possible to point out and justify on safety grounds that there shouldn't be swimmers whilst anglers are on the beach and the same goes for dog owners, who struggle to keep their pets under control. On the otherhand, I also get plenty coming up to me with a friendly and positive attitude and are really interested in what I'm doing and I have had swimmers and dog walkers coming up to me saying that they watch my videos, many thanking me for them and several have said that they don't actually fish themselves!

Great film mate , I fish this area a hell of a lot and we use size 12 hooks and red rag with long snoods for the golden greys , on lighter kit than normal epic fun 🤩

Great to hear Freddie! My sole rig specials worked last time I was out - fishing one rod with a boom rig and the other with that short snood rig - all the soles were caught on the latter!

It’s great to golden greys. Seem to be making more of an appearance on the south coast. Southbourne (Bournemouth) started to see them last year and have reappeared in decent numbers this year..
    Thankyou for your videos

Good to see you on my local beach again. The goldies were a surprise , we don't normally see them before mid August. Red rag is top,if you can get any.Quite a few red mullet being caught now, small but beautiful fish. It's usually quieter a bit further east, opposite Winterton Way. May see you on the beach one day.

    • @rodsangleuk6283

Thanks for the info Rob. I used to fish off the west harbour wall and have had the red mullet and plenty of soles on the harbour side. GGs also go in to the harbour and can be caught from Kingston Beach; but I've yet to time that right and be there when they arrive. Locals have a big advantage!

Nice one Nick. We had a couple of hot days - over hyped though! I fished the day after what was supposed to be the hottest day on record here; as soon as clouds covered the sun, I felt cold and had to put on my micro fleece!

Hi Mick. Well, that was an unexpected surprise...2 nice golden grey mullet. I have never caught one and know very little about them other than the fact that all mullet are difficult to catch. I appreciate that you returned them, but can you eat them and are they good to eat? The second session was, indeed, much better than the first. Another great video that I really enjoyed watching. Cheers. Ken

    • @rodsangleuk6283
      @rodsangleuk6283  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks Ken 👍 Golden greys can be difficult to catch if you target them - they seem to appear in short spells, sometimes out of the blue and put up a good fight. I've never tried eating one.

Nice setting and relaxing etc.. however I always find shore fishing such a downer in the UK as there are hardly any fish of any size worth catching...I guess it's because I am used to fishing more exotic shorelines where there are less trawlers.

Not as consistent as it used to be, but you can still get a good day's sport; better at night though and knowing a venue helps, of course. I have poor days; but don't blank that often and there is usually something of interest each session, which motivates you to go next time. I normally enjoy fishing hard venues, as well as those full of fish.
