This was the most fun I’ve had making a video in quite a while. I love a good challenge.

Rick, even though I have talked to you at length as you guided me through this video, I still just have to comment about this one. Your ability to creatively find ways to fix and repair reels even though parts are missing continues to amaze me. It challenges me to try innovative ways to repair what seems to be irreparable. You did this at least twice in this video and it was amazing. You remember that big TICA surf reel I bought for next to nothing that had a danaged part of the main gear shaft? I figured out a “Rick Stivers miracle” and got that reel working perfectly with a repair that should last indefinitely. As you said in your Kentucky drawl when I told you about it, “now if you hadn’t’ been watching my channel you probably wouldn’t have even tried to fix it.” You were very correct in that assessment as that old but beautiful TICA reel would have been headed for my parts reel boxes. When working on this reel you showed another of your many talents - the ability to figure out how to take apart what would confound other less tenacious individuals (such as me.) You also have an almost innate ability to remember how things go back together after you’ve taken them apart. I guess I simply enjoy seeing how your mind works. It is great that you were able to find someone to send you some photos of some missing]g parts that helped you find ways to substitute parts that would allow the reel to properly function. Again, this was an amazing video allowing us to watch over your shoulder and give understanding as to how you thought all this out. I call this one of your top five videos! For the life of me I don’t understand why you did not get more comments even if they only said, “WOW!” Maybe my usual overly verbose comment will compensate for this lack of deserved attention! - Chris

Chris, I’m still not sure that we aren’t missing something easier in the assembly process. Surely it wasn’t that difficult to assemble in the factory. I’m thinking that maybe they had some type of shoehorn device that allowed for simple assembly. That said, this reel was a lot of fun.

Little clips like that are why reel maintenance should be performed inside a plastic bubble! There are reel parts in the dark recesses of my basement that may never be found again!

Same here. I just can’t find the dexterity to perform maintenance inside a plastic bag.
