The Project Q is an example of something that will likely fail due to its restrictions. Basically why buy something that only has one use, when instead you can go for something that has a primary purpose that also allows you to use it for other things. The steam deck is a good example of this since its primary use is obviously to play your steam games while on the go, but you can also access the linux desktop and run your own things, which you can also add to steam. Same for the Rog Ally, same for any android based emulation device.
Controllers can be used on multiple systems as well so i don't mind the price they charge for them, the project Q will likely be quite expensive and likely still usable as a controller similar to the ps5 controller on pc and such, but it would be the dumbest controller you can use. 🙄

i don't think it will given ps5 game streaming got introduced the other day, likely in preparation for this q lite, so if like xcloud will allow u to just sub to ps plus and then play everything, it's an easy success, hopefully they also allow it to be an app to be played on any device, which the leak of it being android based implies as well

I use the official app and frankly it’s as good as playing local most of the time. I imagine Bob didn’t have his PS5 on an Ethernet cable.
PS5 likes to skip frames when it’s only on wifi where Xbox drops video quality.

Instead of treating it like an accessory, they could market it as an alternative platform and sell it at a loss. Instead of being a 300$+ price, they could sell it in the 100-200$ range. I've used Remote Play a ton. On a 5G connection in the suburbs on an iPhone 12 Pro Max, I get high quality streaming with only a small noticeable input delay. I wouldn't recommend playing R6 Siege in a moving bus or car, but if you sit down somewhere stationary and you happen to have a good 5G connection, Remote Play is rather seemless. Unfortunately my Intel mac has a really buggy WiFi adapter and it freaks out whenever a nearby Apple device is woken up, which causes issues while playing over LAN. This is a Mac or Apple-specific issue tho, it has something to do with the AWDL interface that Apple likes to use to talk to other devices which clouds the WLAN.

I was able to get Chiaki set up on my Steam Deck really easily. I wasn't expecting it to work well but I was wrong. Tested out a bunch of games and experience very minimal lag. I'm sure it wouldn't work well outside my house though. Still happy I can use it to remote play Diablo 4. Still curious to see what Sony does with the project Q

I used to have HUGE issues with remote play with iPhone 14Pro and a Backbone... until I hardwired my PS5 into the router. Now it runs 60FPS no problem anywhere in my house. I get about 1 unstable network notification an hour and it seems to always resolve itself in 3 seconds.
I wouldn't recommend remote play for anything that you are being competitive in - or games where response time is EVERYTHING (SF and the like). But I played pretty much all of Hogwarts Legacy in remote play and it was a good experience.

I just stream to my laptop or phone usually if i want to play in bed or something, but the main problem with remote play is no ability to throttle download speeds, i have gigabit internet and good wifi coverage though the whole house, but as soon as i want to download a game or update, remote play implodes. It's also annoying that the mic and all the video streaming apps don't work in remote play. Even at the best of times the bitrate on remote play seems shockingly low, it's about on par with game pass, which is crazy considering game pass is streaming from servers.

  • @Zoze13

Remote play works surprisingly well. I play it at my GFs place through wifi, in hotels across the world, even on the bus through cell data. On the bus the connection fades in and out. But in all other scenarios is almost perfect. And the backbone works and feels fantastic.
There is a TINY delay. So I wouldn’t play twitchy games like COD. I use for it for RPGs like Wrath of the Righteous.

It took a minute to setup chiaki on my steam deck. And even after that it had a lot of audio cracking issues. But those were resolved by tweaking the audio bit-rate. So now it all actually works. You can use the touch screen as the touch pad just like the project Q I assume.
So I think yes you can use the third-party app and joystick but they are all janky. So I think Sony realized there is a market for this if it all works seamlessly.

Sony can just as well create their own streaming technology for lower latency and higher bitrate, similar to WiiU.
