    ... where are the intermediate tutorial vids? I mean, I can get 'place belt with mouse'-videos a dime a dozen. AND i can get 'if you are already a grandmaster, here are some challenges for you' videos... but Where are the tuts that cover the large dark forest between 'click on ground to do stuff' and 'black magic'?

      if I were to explain them to my personal satisfaction this video would be twice the length and it's already too long. though I understand the sentiment I did only say the name of each thing with a single example. imagine if I took the same amount of time with each of those with each advanced example.

      @@crystaldazz that doesn't cover how far you should be to begin a ramp, the differences in how the belt acts when moving up vs moving down, how belts act when you cut a ramp off early and try to continue, how belts can have steeper slopes if you begin by placing the flat ends of the belts first. you underestimate how complicated the normal belt mechanics are. never said it had to be perfect, just up to my standard

    These are some very cool techniques but the video would really benefit if you had written a script first.It's frustrating listening to you try to stutter through a complicated explanation that you sometimes had to *correct during editing

      That's the number 1 thing I learned. Improvising that part was a bad idea but that's actually the best/least edited portion of the recording. My confidence level at that point was off the charts and my stutter *nearly* disappeared.

    diagonal is sqrt(2) = 1.41 so not quite 1.5 height units but 1.25 is fine

      I'm not sure what you're talking about? there are lots of diagonals in this video. but belt heights can only be rational numbers because of how they go directly between the two previous rational numbers. so wherever you are square rooting must be a mistake. maybe a timestamp could help me understand?

      @@LudusMachinae I believe he is referencing the length of a single unit diagonal length on the grid: assume a unit measure of 1 for each grid square, then apply Pythagorean theorem (a^2+b^2=c^2) and get a diagonal grid length of sqrt(2) or 1.4142

      @@justinkraynie6435 yeah i understand where the numbers came from but i dont know what the hypotenuse length of a 1x1 triangle (which is already an abnormal belt) has to do with the height of belts max being 1.25, hes comparing hypotenuse with a side length in that case? and thats not even mentioning the grids are diffrent sizes than heights so that calculation wouldnt even be accurate

      @@LudusMachinae I did not realize the XYZ axis did not all have the same size unit of measure, and i was referencing the hypotenuse measure going vertical, which is what I believe OP was implying.

      @@justinkraynie6435 yeah grid sizes change greatly because of the spherical nature of the planets. and like I said a 1 length 1 height belt is still an abnormal belt so theres no reason to think that where the max number comes from

    That is some really cool stuff. I was already happy to get some tighter bends by deleting the last flat part of up/down belts but this is incredible.
    Fascinating tricks. Just a bit immersion breaking. I guess I'll hate to make a museum planet at some time for that cursed spaghetti.

    Honestly DSP devs should just give up and make the belt hight adjustment finer, giving the player a choice to step in full hights, 1/2 or 1/4 hights.

    I would probably only use a apiral for a fancy endpoint for my science, but for practicality in moving subcomponents im not really sure. It just cool with glowboxes :D

      The only practical application might be having a "buffer" in the form of the belt spiral, but a storage unit would probably serve you better anyway

    I know it's quite late for this question but anyone know a blueprint copy-paste mod that allows you to copy-pastes things like teleporting sorters? I quickly realized even if I use these sorters to create 1-belt input&output setup when I try to paste it to increase production rates they fail to paste and dont work. Would be great since multiplying production is the name of the game.

      Same here, after spending 300+ hours i finaly decided to see what the others did.
      And here we go, i'm partially glad i didnt before, because the "mental spoil" is real.
      Only a few games helps people thinker better, becoming smarter, i mean in DSP every problem can be solved different ways. (ONI or KSP makes me feel the same, even if it is not the same kind of game)
      The good new is double : i can now imagine a new infinity of solutions for my next game of DSP !
      And the time i spent playing before having a check on YT was really nice and worth to be "offline thinking".
      Atm I'm really happy to find here and now , clever and patient persons. giving a second to life to this amazing game .
      And honestly, I feel as small as white dwarves might do ( :

      This big update is the first time I was somewhat worried about things being patched out. Most of these tricks would require a major rewrite of some base mechanics to remove, I bet these tricks will still exist for another few years now.

    60 hours of gameplay, and I just discovered that you can lift the belts... :O
    And the idea of crossing the belts with a filter is great.

      the 12 belt elevator requires multiple blueprints to build without issues. that's why they're Part 1 and 2. (it used to be the three I used in the video) place them in the given order and they should work without issue

    I have said that the arbitrary belt limits need to be removed because they serve no purpose and videos like these prove there is no legitimate or technical reason for slopes to be restricted the way they are

      I don't think I agree. arbitrary limitations imposed on the player is how innovation and variety in gameplay appears in factory games. you can make a similar argument with the size and shape of facilities and the use of sorters for inserting things. there's no technical reason for these to not be perfect little squares and maximum throughput insertion devices technecally. but because of these limitations you must think of solutions which can be optomized in many different respects

      @@LudusMachinae Okay to a point but the end node cannot be a slope and the fact it takes multiple spaces for one unit of elevation is pushing suspension of disbelief obviously there should be some restrictions for sanity sake but the current restrictions are a bit overkill and it should be fundamentally easier to build more compact things plus you have games like satisfactory that actually provide dedicated conveyor lifts which IMO should be a thing in DSP

      lots of the tricks are byproducts of mechanics intended to make blueprints more consistent and easier to use. it would be incredibly difficult to remove those tricks without making normal blueprints even jankier than they are now and the devs wouldn't ruin normal blueprinting just to ruin belt benders fun. that's counter productive for both sides.
      That means there's little reason to think the tricks would stop working unless there was some complete overhaul of the belting and blueprint system, also the last time that did happen (right before blueprints release) and tricks were lost. the previously placed ones continued working just fine. you only couldn't make new ones. that's likely the worst case scenerio

    I personally like those tricks with belts but i find it a bit cheaty, my rule for my games is simple, everything which can be built by hand is legal as long as it doesnt look completely broken. (I accidentally got a belt turn like those with those belt towers in my game once by hand, no blueprint involved)

      you can find lots of little weirdness like this by just playing the game. Blueprint mode is just the easiest way to control exactly how things end up.

      there's so many little things when using belts it's easy to miss! you ever pressed tab while using splitters?

      @@LudusMachinae thankfully I stumbled upon the different splitters fairly early. Another thing I didn't realise until I was already hundreds of hours in was that you can free-rotate miners! That one's a game changer haha

      look how old this vid is, there's been many patches and I've only noticed 1 thing stop working. I think they either like it or don't care

      @@LudusMachinae I mean…yeah I did see the time stamp, but these are definitely exploits (not that I won’t use them, they are awesome) and it seems like something that they will eventually address and/or implement belt elevators etc. as part of the game itself.

      @@Phelix22 oh yeah I'm sure the game will change over time. I found these when they released the blueprinting system and I remember the system taking a long time to build, for them to try and fix them theyll need to rewrite the belt system a 3rd time and I think they are reluctant.

      nope! only the 3rd trick in my part 2 has been changed, and even that one is still possible, just slightly more difficult

      don't forget to also download the dependancy mods as well for it to work properly.
