      I grew up in the area you live in, and I've never ever in my life seen a grizzly there. I now live south of the border and hike the Cascades periodically on the Washington side too.
      However, in April of this year the National Park Service website noc.gov stated "agencies have decided to restore grizzly bears to the North Cascades ecosystem through the translocation of grizzly bears from other ecosystems in the Rocky Mountains or interior British Columbia. The decision is the culmination of an Environmental Impact Statement process that began in 2022."

    I'm an avid hiker, nature enthusiast and feel most at home in the mountains while journeying with my wolf hybrid dog, my loyal and family companion. I was taught life sustaining back country survival skills through Scouting, which emphasized "preparedness". I am very proud of your adventure spirit, love for nature and being in the outdoors. Love your videography and drone footage. It is my calling too. Being prepared for most anything adverse is key to having and enjoyable, worry free outing whether short or long distance. Along with modern day navigation, i.e. GPS, which can and will fail, please carry a compass if you don't already. Bear spray is very important and get trained to carry a fire-arm. There's a reason why most people living or touring the outback esp in places like Alaska for e.g. travel with side arms or large bore rifles. Also, very important to wear long pants for protection against poisonous plants, etc. Video content = A+ I have subscribed. Greetings from Washington State!!!

    This is so cool to see you hiking here! I have been extremely lucky the past two years and got the chance to work on this trail doing maintenance with local crews. It is definitely one of the tougher hikes in the area, but the view is sooo worth it at the top. If you go anytime before mid August, you can typically find snow at the top and have a snowball fight with friends. I'm not sure how likely you are to find a grizzly here, but last time I went there was a little black bear in the parking lot. Glad to see you enjoyed the hike!

    Another great video in beautiful scenery, thanks for taking us on this hike Kira and Madison ☺
    It's so easy to forget that we can actually do anything that we want, or put our minds to. Not "I want to spend a billion dollars " or "I want to own a fancy boat right now" - but that we can actually decide what we want to achieve, and then work towards it. It's so easy to slip into daydreaming, or commiserating with ourselves for our current situation. But really its almost always up to us - make a goal, and take steps towards it. So thanks for the reminder.

    A couple years ago I was in my SxS in Montana on a remote trail, and came across a black bear up ahead on the trail. I stopped. He stopped. I watched. He watched back. I had my bear spray and my 10mm with bear loads just in case. He moved on, and so did I. The only thing I shot were photos. That's a gorgeous area where you are!

    Hi, just started watching this and I love it! It’s brought back memories of two bear encounters for me and I have to tell you I panicked both times and ran for my life!!! I’ve not been able to overcome the panic and fear so I don’t just carry bear spray but a rifle and hopefully if it happens again I will be able to stand my ground and not run! Good luck and I really appreciate your videos 🙏🏽❤️

    Just to be clear, that area, Mt Slesse, is NOT grizzly territory. Grizzlies haven't been recorded there in many, many years. Lots of black bears though, saw 5 this year on various hikes in the area, some quite close (within 100').

      Thanks for the insight! Genuinely thought I had a higher chance of running into a grizzly. I don’t think it’s impossible still… but definitely more likely to see a black bear.

    • @AlexM-zc7ib
      @AlexM-zc7ib 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      @@MadisonClysdalee I guess nothing is impossible....but they haven't been sighted in that area in 20+ years, and conservation officers say they're not there. So, you'd probably have a bigger chance of being caught in a rock slide. That said, there's plenty of cougars in that area, and there have been some attacks....I'd rather meet a black than a cougar, that's for sure!

    Madison, I have three criticisms. 1) I Dont see bear spray. 2) You do not have a Garmin Inreach or Personal locator beacon. 3) You are alone. This makes this hike very iffy at best.

    I don't know where you got the idea that the area has grizzly bears. I have hiked the Mt. Slesse Memorial Trail about 5 times solo. I have never encountered nor heard of grizzly sightings around the area. It's not a viable grizzly habitat. I've also explored Chilliwack Valley extensively (over 100 times) since I live nearby and never seen grizzly bears.

    It's a good thing you didn't bring your tent and set it up at the monument. That's a good way to get your tent haunted. Ghosts can haunt most nylon tents but not sil-polyester ones because the silicone blocks the ghosts and they can't pass through it.

    Hun, if you’d watched the number of bear attack videos I have, you wouldn’t be doing this, I guarantee you that. Having a dog is worse than not having one, they often will trigger bear attacks, plus they stand no chance against a Grizzly or even a Black Bear.

    I appreciate these kinds of videos. I've never camped before but I want to because of what you can see and what you can photograph, and I'm never with anyone! The prettiest places (much like this one) in my area are mountainous black bear territory, which are regarded as much more manageable than grizzlies but they still scare me since I haven't been out with them before. I've only ever had close encounters with mountain lions, and I'm not super keen on adding to that list an animal as large as a human. This solo stuff is inspiring! It speaks to the odds, and the beauty of it speaks for it all
