Exactly. Love is when the welfare and wellbeing of another is so important that it really doesn't matter what they do. They can betray you, they can break your heart, but you still love them. It doesn't matter how much it hurts, you still love them. Obviously, if such a bond is repeatedly abused by someone with no respect for it, love may dwindle or die, but no single action can destroy true and unconditional love.
" Do you think I care for you so little that betraying me would make a difference" He understood she was acting out of grief and not being who she really was. His compassion and care for her is amazing.
Reminds me of a line from an Anne Rice book "What would love be if we had an eternity to cherish it?" Doctor is a time lord, centuries old, to be able to consider love for so long...
"Go to hell..." Eleven would've smiled afterward. Ten and Nine would've meant it. But Twelve had his resting face on. She was fooled by the eyebrows. He was confused why she tried to leave and he made sure she stayed.
I think 9 would have reacted similar to Capaldi here. Ten definitely would have let her leave and then came back. 11 definitely would have been a bit more ferocious, but smiled for sure afterwards
13: Go to hell. I mean, again, because your school is some kind of a hell. Well, I like children, don't get me wrong; I was a nani for a week on 1983, but... Eh, who are you again? Clara: I am Clara, your companion. 13: oh, right, let's split up and look for clues Clara: and where are you going, Doctor? 13: too personal. Not telling you. Noisy, aren't we?
@@katnoir8317 well to be fair.. i did see snippets of jodie being 'the doctor' it's never enough to fully see him. But i would sometimes gasp and be like i saw him, he's there.... it's like a horrible game of edging. I get so close to seeing him in her, and then it goes away. I'm doctorly frustrated.
Capaldi's Doctor really did love Clara; went to Hell to save her boyfriend, fought against his own people for 4.5 billion years, brought her back at the end of the universe and wiped his own memory just to keep her safe. If that isn't devotion then what is?
Yeah that's why I love 12 and Clara more then 11 and Clara. Clara actually became my favourite companion in Twelve's era And capaldi became my favourite doctor in season 8 he overtook my orginal favorite doctor which was Christopher Eccleston
He also rebooted the universe and time became fractured. Just out of Compassion and Love he has for his freind whatever anyone tells me the 12th Doctor is my doctor.
@@HNCS2006 I never watched dr who after David Tennant, then one day I had a dream about clara and was weird cos she needed the hug this time , id never seen it an I guess it was on tv while I was sleep or whatever , so I had to watch it , obviously rose is always my fave but clara was so tragic
I feel like this was the turning point in their relationship. Through this whole series, she watched him do and say cold and selfish things and she called him out on it, then she does an extremely cold and selfish thing, and he calls her out but forgives her. She obviously saw at that point that the Doctor she knew was still in there.
And it should have been a moment where the Doctor realized the coldness was a front, and that underneath that was still a very kind being. Notice how he looks more hurt that she thinks he would turn her away than he was from her betraying him!
@@CinemaBiohazard "the coldness was a front" i love that sm. idc what anyone says, deep down clara's always been a softie, sure she does messed up things sometimes but honestly who doesn't. she was real and human, but she had a big heart and will always be a favourite of mine.
I think that's why the twelfth's doctor's love for clara seems so deep compared to the eleventh's. sure the eleventh really was flirty and more affectionate but the twelfth doctor was so much more sacrificial in his love for clara.
deb well the Eleventh was extremely suspicious of Clara. He didn't allow himself to love her like he did with Amy for instance. After he found out who she was he treated her like every other companion.Just watch the Time of The Doctor: he did everything to keep her save even if it means he won't see her again. you can't really compare it because it were different circumstances.
Severus Versus he just said: I didn't say it was your fault. This means that the Doctor behaved like a boyfriend (flirted with her etc.) and after sometime she began to fancy him (she said so herself) and he wanted to put an end to that. The eleventh probably enjoyed the attention but he was never interested in Clara after he found out her mystery. He liked her like his other companions.
Green Whovian. good point. but in those situations the Master hurt/killed others and didn't directly impact the Doctor. The Doctor also doesn't have the same level of trust with the Master like he had with Clara. His relationship with the Master is categorically different than his relationship with Clara. Clara is someone he trusted who betrayed him personally. That's like if you're girlfriend/boyfriend competely betrayed and sabotaged you in the most selfish way possible. That's different than if he/she did something to a random stranger. i"m not saying one is better or worse than the other act, but i'm saying that one can be felt more personally and have a deeper sting than the other.
@@legolass7525 honestly, i likely would have taken it that way as well. between the tone he used and the situation, it seemed pretty clear to me, at least, that he seemed to mean it that way. just because he knows what he was thinking at the time, he forgets that we silly humans have whole different complex system of how we comprehend things. convoluted, sure, but definitely different. a lot more games and undercurrents to our nonsensical form of communication. [sad smile]
This is one of those paradoxical moments for me. Yeah, he often has issues with understanding human culture, yet he's been hanging around humans for years. One minute, he's acting like a bewildered tourist, the next, he's working people like a master manipulator. So, it both makes sense and doesn't make sense that he'd be confused by her reaction...especially considering the way she asked and how he worded his response.
When an actor, who's far older than the female lead, can make you forget their age, that's when you know they're talented. Not for one moment did the bond between them two feel weird.
Yeah I think it helped that the actors had good chemistry. It's one of the better companion developments in the new era, seeing Clara go from a lovestruck fangirl for 11 to being a very smart and capable foil to 12.
@@thatmanfred well it kind of was at the start. only during like episode 2 or 3 of s8 they shut down the romantic idea. also just watch the snowman episode, victorian clara (still part of real clara) kissed him and flirted alot with dr11. even in s8 e1 clara specifically said, that if theres a person to flirt with a mountain (old person), it would be her.
I think the dynamic here is fantastic. It feels like a mentor and student. The doctor is showing his age through his huge compassion for Clara. He is far older than her and has experienced far greater grief than she has, so he's coaching her through this with care and understanding. A beautiful scene.
Clara was to Twelve like Ten's Rose and Eleven's Amy. To put it as Eleven did: "The first face this face ever saw." THAT's why they were so special to them.
I think twelve loves clara like ten loves rose. They was more than friends, both was in love with the other. Eleven and amy were luke brother and little sister.
I think it's love. I think 10 did not behave the same with Rose as with Donna, for example, and I think that 12 did not behave the same with Clara as with Billie. The looks, the gestures, were more intimate with Rose and Clara. Regarding 11, his behavior with amy was for my opinion of brother and sister, he did not notice desire on his part
@Ayla Alyai know that there are many Doctor Who fans who are annoyed by the idea that the doctor has a romantic relationship either with the clear ones or with anybody as long as they can stand up to riversong and because they made it very clear that there was a wedding. I think that's the problem, the doctor can have friends, but girlfriend / boyfriend?
@Ayla Alya i would recommend the whole season 8: the doctor has changed and clear and they have to get used to each other. I paid attention to the obsession of 12 to keep near to her side despite how she behaved sometimes, because 12 is more grumpy and manipulative than 11. From season 9 the chapters 2 (although to understand it you have to see the 1) the 3 and the 4 (those ofthe submarine base,) the 5 (the one of the vikings) the 7 and the 8 (the invasion zygon) and all from the 10 (the subject is the legendary hybrid).
I still think as time passes people will see Peter Capaldi as quite an underrated Doctor. His run was marred with some of the weaker writing since the show came back. He was a great Doctor.
Tina Sara true. Some ideas during his run may not have been the best, but they definitely were not on the level of crap like Love and Monsters or Fear Her.
Tina Sara Agreed, the only thing that comes close to either is Sleep No More. Tbh, had Gatiss taken out all the silly elements and changed the monster to something less laughable, SNM could’ve been very good
It's interesting how Colin Baker and Peter Capaldi's times in the role were marred by some wonky writing but in general both actors managed to rise above it and do some amazing things. Also note they were also Doctors who were seen as abrasive but eventually became more well-rounded and deeper Doctors than one expects.
Green Whovian yeah. don't worry I do agree with your comment that Peter and Jenna were better but I thought Matt and Jenna were good to but I liked Matt with Karen and Arthur better and also Alex Kingson as well.

+VioletMagic13 Septiplier I wouldn't say that he was mean to her. Actually yeah, in a way he definitely was, but not ... maliciously? You know? Like he wasn't _trying_ to be mean to her.
The acting in this scene is just fenomenal. @1:17 For example, when Clara is visible shocked when the doctor says 'betray' out loud. Changing emotions so quickly, excellent acting. And the show knows how to combine smart dialogue, humorous remarks and still holding the gravity and emotions in the scene. Wow.
For real! My favorite bit is 1:50 when Clara looks down and swallows back her tears. She looks like a tidal wave of shame is just washing over her. She can't bear to look at the Doctor because she's realizing just how much love he has for her--love that she abused and took advantage of.
God yes! The facial acting of Jenna is so underrated, she’s an amazing actress, even if the companion isn’t liked by many fans. But I never noticed that specific thing you mention. The staggering reaction she has, swallowing her words mid-sentence. What a great subtle set of expressions. Hearing Doctor call her out so directly, even when she admits it, is such a shock to her. Becuz she was in a trance of grief she barely even recognises what she’s done until called out by her best friend
...ok this is super emotional and sweet but are we just gonna ignore the fact that the Doctor, upon considering where Danny Pink ended up, immediately decided that the guy went to hell? 😂
I dont think he meant hell like christian hell, i think he meant it more as the general "underworld", some cultures do call it hell but its not like a polar opposite to a heaven, its just more of a world of the dead type of thing
I think the Doctor's calculation here is obvious: he doesn't blame Clara for what she did because in the end there were no real consequences (unlike Rose and Amy, who were both almost excluded from the TARDIS previously). What the sequence with the sleep patch did was show the Doctor the extent of Clara's trauma in light of Danny's death and the impossible situation he had to deal with: if he wants Clara to continue to travel with him, then he has to make some effort to bring Danny back from the dead, because otherwise his inaction would hover like a black cloud over all their future adventures - every world saved, every wrong righted, every incredible, impossible thing the Doctor does would be marred by the same question: "You can do all that but you couldn't save the love of my life?" So he has to go down this rabbit hole with her and ride out her grief in the hope that he might exhaust her desperation and disabuse her of the belief that he can do anything, so that she can finally accept Danny's death and begin to heal.
1:01 that moment with that short smile. Something so genuine from an elderly, one who has experienced so much, that shows so much of their thoughts and feelings for just a moment.
I like how there’s no background music when he tells her how much she means to him. The words and the acting say it all. No other Doctor could’ve pulled this off. Jenna was so spot on with her guilt and remorse. She always makes me cry so easily.
men do that a lot... like most of us can just flip a switch and stop the waterworks. well, some of us can, but the majority of us aren't oscar winning actresses. lol
This level of compassion is beyond me! I cannot even dream of being so caring instead of vengeful when someone betrays me. It makes me so happy that the Doctor is always a teacher to viewers, the exact reason why the show was created. He accepts all beings as they are, and tries to help them. He serves justice when required and is full of compassion. These are such beautiful qualities one can possess in this dark century where people are mostly anything but this. This really is just something else. Thank you Doctor!
@@anxiety_disaster Then, in that scenario, it's still not the broken trust that should break up that relationship, it's the bond they're willing to burn.
Of course. I'm not one for biblical verse normally but that is in essence what Paul's letter to the Corinthians says as well. Love is patient. Love doesn't keep score. It's not about tit for tat. Not true love anyway. True love is being hurt by someone, not accepting the act which is wrong, but still loving the person behind it anyway. True love is letting someone go you love very much because you can see it's in their interest. For their growth. While holding in to them though it'd hurt less would be selfish. True love encompasses all because it has no conditions. It just is. And always will be. Here I am. Who I am is where I stand. Where I stand is where I fall. Naysayers may call it foolish or naive but true love cares not for these things. It carries on and enjoins. Which in itself is strength. This is the greatest lesson we can take from the Doctor. You can get angry, you can challenge people, push people to be and so better but start from love first and communication. Only if it's not reciprocated or bad continues to be propagated by the other party do you have to shut it down. Not because you don't love but because you do. To save the ones worth saving as proven by themselves. Whew that ended up being longer than expected sorry guys.
I was like, she deserves that. Finally we're gonna be rid of her, good riddance. It would also explain why the TARDIS doesn't like her. It would have been complete and perfect. Showing that some of the Doctor's companions can turn out so bad that they get thrown out is great writting. But having the Doctor keeping her around, and complying to her wish, and going to a place he can't possibly go, because he doesn't know anything about that place, is terrible writting. And it ruins the Doctor's character to me. Yes the Doctor can be kind and understanding. But he also is a Time Lord. He is the very last Time Lord. Protecting the laws of Time is his job. You betray him the way she tries, and you prove your unworthy of traveling in the TARDIS. The real Doctor (look at his previous selves) would have kicked her out.
@@SchultzDorinda @シュルツドリンダ no he would not have. Absolutely not have. Rose saved her dad despite the doctor telling her not to. And nothing. The doctor wouldn't abandon his best friend in her darkest hour. No way in hell. Especially as the kind and who tries to help Daleks even after they wiped out his race. It's perfectly in line with all versions of his character. He's forgiving. He also went to the place he can't ever go for Jenny and the Victorian gang his own death place. He has no problems breaking the laws of time for people he loves. Literary this was exactly what the doctor would do and it's not bad writing. The egg as the moon was bad writing
I love how Twelve said a very touching word and showing how he really care for Clara even after hes been betrayed but immediately insults her 0,005 second after that. He just doesn't wants for everyone to know he really has a soft spot for Clara.
I think it's because he sees so much of himself in her; they're both individuals who have made a lot of mistakes and made a few wrong turns, but really they're just two kind beings who want to do the right thing and help people. They just let their emotions get in the way sometimes.
This line made the Capaldi doctor great. Of course this is exactly what an immortal being would say and feel. To paraphrase Anne Rice, "What could love turn into if you had an eternity to nourish it?" The doctor loved and was in love with Clara. And in a reverse of most doctor / companion stories, harkening to the earlier ones, Clara loved the doctor but she wasn't IN love with him. Great great scene.
This is one of the lines I'll never forget on Capaldi Doctor. Betrayal is a hard thing, I don't even want to think I can forgive someone like that. But The Doctor forgave her without batting an eye.
Helps a lot to have centuries of experience dealing with humans, feelings and your own repressed guilt and grief. An emotional journey like forgiving a betrayal, that can take a regular person years to process, the Doctor can process in minutes. His emotional intelligence is very much on par with his scientific knowledge, if not greater.
Capaldi's doctor is aging like a fine wine. I remember being really down on Season 8 when I first saw it, but the more I watch the more I really like it. I'm glad to be proven wrong. Capaldi was really great.
@Michala1998 Moffatt said he was going to do a kind of "reboot" after 11. This is why he chose Capaldi. The Doctor who has finally accepted his burdens instead of running away from them.
I always thought through each regeneration “this is my Doctor, no this is my Doctor”. But I am absolutely certain now, that 12 is my Doctor. Peter Capaldi plays him so well, he makes a 1200 year old man with experience, love and loss believable. He’s fun yet can be serious. He’s just like the purest incarnation of the Doctor, with no mask on and showing his true self. 11 was the fun and quirky Doctor, 10 was the almost serious but allowed to enjoy himself Doctor, 9 was the hopeful and optimistic Doctor, the Doctor that was allowed to rest from war but could relax knowing he could help, I won’t go into the rest.
This moment signifies for me that Peter Capaldi IS the doctor. It is perfectly in line with his character. Anybody remember the S1 Episode Fathers day? Rose literally betrays the doctor on purpose and yet he still stands with her, despite being angry with her. He understands and chooses to stand with her. Moffat showed great understanding of character in this scene.
@@12thdoctor he comes back, then assures rose he wasn't really going to leave her, and just wanted to scare her because she made a huge mistake with massive consequences
12 will always be my favorite. Clara betrayed him and his response was to forgive her, but firmly tell her "you being sad and pitiful isn't gonna help, so get your shit together and let's save your boyfriend". GOD Capaldi fucking did an amazing job.
What's really lovely is that he says "you've betrayed me, my trust & everything I've ever stood for, but I love you enough to want to see you happy, it means so much to me to see you happy. I'm your friend & I like to see you happy, so I'm going to forgive you everything you have just done & help you".
This is the moment that Twelve became the Doctor for me. For the majority of Series 8 he is disturbingly cold and somewhat of a jerk, especially to Clara. But then, he goes ahead and does this. Helps her even though she betrayed him out of desperation, and then there's no hard feelings afterwards. Twelve is great.
"Sometimes, all you have are bad choices. But you still have to choose." I think that was the bottom line of all of 12's choices throughout series 8. It was nothing but bad situation after bad situation with no good choice. If you waste time trying to find a good option, eventually you're going to run out of options.
11 and 12 are almost the exact opposite. 11 acted like a funny, caring, laid back, quirky guy, but beneath the surface he harbored unimaginable amounts of pain and anger. But 12 turned that on its head. he his quirky moments, but he tended to hide the caring attitude, almost making him seem mean, except for moments like this one.
This really is an *incredible* scene. I *am* missing the 'I don't deserve a friend like you. / I'm sorry Clara, but I'm exactly what you deserve.' here, though.
It’s interesting to me how polarized the comments are for this scene. There are the people who dislike 12 and just think this is another bad scene (so then... why are they watching a video of it... ah whatever). There are the ones who don’t like Clara, and don’t understand how the Doctor can forgive her betrayal for no clear reason. And there are the Clara supporters who see this scene as 12 finding his... humanity, if you will, and see Clara’s earlier actions as a desperate response to the traumatic experience of listening to the man she loved die senselessly in a car crash. And then of course the people who are here because of “the thing with the eyes” and that is valid.
Love this scene: how to extend grace without being maudlin. The same lesson is given in the climax of Death In Heaven: love is a promise not an emotion.
Edward French that happened in season 1. episode: Dalek. the dalek was part human and blew up and ended the time war finally cause it and the doctor were the only ones left
Bandit Leader Wait, you mean the Doctor and his granddaughter? There was also a two schoolteachers who the first Doctor abducted that were with him for a long while. Also I may have watched a few episodes of the first season, but still trying to watch it!
So good. He reaffirms that he cares for her, smiles (is this the first time he smiled sincerely during his run as the doctor?) and gives her a call to action. Great writing, great acting
To me this was one of the greatest scenes in all of the DW series. Incredible! "do you think that I love you so little that betraying me would make a difference?" The Most brilliant line ever written!!
Such a powerful moment in one sentence, incredible writing. This, along with Capaldi's speech in the Zygon inversion and in The doctor falls make him one of my favourite doctors.
This is one of the reasons why Capaldis dr who run was the best. He’s funny quirky his sacrificial love for Clara really adds to it and the fact that Missy is the best master she’s funny sassy and quirky as well as being a touch evil 😂 Peter Capaldi, Clara and Missy were and will always be the best trio ever.
I will never forgive myself for immediately underestimating Mr.Capaldi and not giving his time as the Doctor the same respect I have for the others. The writing, acting and environments in his episodes were some of the absolute best in my experience with Doctor Who.
One thing that's overlooked in this scene: the Doctor genuinely thinks an Afterlife exists and wants to find one. That's a pretty revealing moment right there, and quite funny how he's so curious about one but so busy that he's never got the chance to actively pursue one.
That is actually fascinating. It doesn't deny their existence either, which is nice. Most lefty sci fi writers tend to go heavily on the Anti-Christian sentiment.
@@anon5263 I don't care where they go, as long as the it serves the story. Religion and entertainment stories should not be confused. But the former can inspire the latter.
This is how I am with my closest friends who I know care because of their actions. Showing compassion even after they've hurt you changes them for the better and shows what true friendship is. True friendships are partners for life through thick and thin just like marriage.
A close 2nd and 3rd maybe would be his "thing" imitation with the TARDIS and when he sends the Boneless back..because He's the one that stops the monsters..Epic
I feel for Clara in this scene. She just lost the love of her life and she’s in so much grief she can’t even think straight, but the Doctor is there for her regardless.
well knowing clara i think she probably wanted to but maybe she feels like she doesn't have a right to go and hug him after what she did because she feels so bad about it.
I was so disappointed when he was announced 12 but he definitely grew on me, his dry humour, his secret browser history and most importantly moments like this, his heart(s) on his shoulder.
I was disappointed as well, until the actual first episode when #11 calls Clara on the Tardis phone when she's standing in front of #12 and Capaldi's doctor is telling Clara, "I'm right here." I was in tears by then, totally onboard with him.
Yeah I was a little weirded out seeing an old doctor but he was fricken awesome and he is in my top 5 favorite doctors. I think after 13 they should go back to having an old doctor maybe Sean Pertwee or Martin Sheen.
No music, no fanfare, but just the dialogue, the subtle facial acting, the story behind it, it just makes you cry so easily. I don’t know its the most heart-warming relationship of the Doctor I’ve realised, this deep platonic love for each other that defies betrayal and hardship and rocky-pathes. Their friendship is so amazing, criticise this era all you want but they together were written amazingly. God I wish i could one day make even one friend like this, the world would all be better if we had a relationship like this.
At least he didn't go all Malcolm Tucker on her! Interesting how the relationship between Clara and the Doctor is portrayed as Peter Capaldi replaces Matt Smith. The characters are the same, though Capaldi plays it differently and it was obvious she loved him as Smith. The age difference on the outside all but drove Clara away, but Smith's cameo 'phone call' and this scene convince Clara that this is the same Doctor she loved all along on the inside, and this pairing finally takes off. Fine acting by both Jenna and Peter. She can do 'the eye thing' for me anytime.
Clara and Twelve has an incredibly deep friendship, something that couldn’t have been dismissed for one mistake she made. They’ve been making them for years. In Clara’s eyes Twelve betrayed her in the episode with the moon (I can’t remember what season) Their friendship can withstand that. And also, though I do not condone Clara’s actions, she was distraught, she was desperate to cling on to the last bit of hope she had to save Danny. Twelve recognised the loss, the desperation, and the love. Personally I think Danny was the person who kept Clara grounded, you see her ego get the better of her in her last season. That’s just my opinion though.
You know, it took me a really really long time to accept 12 as the doctor. It was the longest that it's ever taken for me. But this scene, oh this scene did it for me. Now he's right up there with 10 in my book.
I've said it once I'll say it again. Peter Capaldi is the best actor to ever play the doctor and the best doctor the show has ever had. His acting commands every scene he is in and hooks you to every word. Series 8, I feel has only gotten better with time because it did a great job showing 12's character development. I did not really care for Clara during her short time with Matt Smith but series 8 made me lover her. The chemistry between Peter and Jenna is astounding and they are one of the best TARDIS teams.
That smile at the end, a homage to the 4th doctor that fits so perfectly with capaldi's doctor. I just wish... I wished he had a better run. Everything about his doctor leaned towards my preferences, his grumpy anti-hero attitude to mask his kind heart, his cranky kind of crazy and his wit made him in my eyes the perfect blend of old and new Doctor who... But damn did he have to go through some of the weakest story writing the reboot had seen.
I hadn't watched Doctor Who since I was a kid watching old ass reruns of Tom Baker as the Doctor. Then I saw this clip. I think one of my friends sent it to me. And I was hooked. I bought every season that was out at the time and had a massive binge to catch up. Capaldi is my favorite Doctor.
Non of your friends will ever love you like Doctor loved Clara. TARDIS is not just Doctor's home it is almost his life and Clara try to destroy it while looking Doctor's eyes. It doesn't matter how much she loved Danny because Doctor loved her more than she could ever imagine and She betrayed him. When I first saw this scene I hated Clara but that wasn't the reason that makes me angry. I was angry because Doctor forgive her in just a second, at first it didn't even seem realistic to me I said no one could forgive something like that easily. But now I am not angry I understand and I feel really sorry for him. Generally I love Clara but she never appreciate Doctor's love. Eleventh was sometimes flirting with Clara but Twelfth was truly in love with her.
The Doctor I agree that twelve loves clara but how is clara not appreciative of twelve's affection??? She put up with a guy who is aloof, careless and cold (on the appearance), someone who constantly belittles her insults her entire race and dumped her more than twice in life and death situation. in spite all this clara remains to be the doctor's loyal friend and companion. Yes , what clara did in dark water is wrong but I don't think she is not appreciative of twelve.
he may forgive her for lots of reason, but amongst else I believe because he is kind, and forgiving (idk how to say this properly. in short it's just how he is) remember Bonnie the Zygon? he forgive her too. remember what clara says, upon hearing a children cry, his reign of terror will be over. he's that kind of an alien. and clara is what, 25 ish years old? (idk I just assume) twelve teaches me a lot during his run really.
"Do you think I care for you so little that betraying me would make a difference?" THAT right there is the energy I try to bring to my life. I fail. I fail A LOT. But I try.

I think 9 would have reacted similar to Capaldi here. Ten definitely would have let her leave and then came back. 11 definitely would have been a bit more ferocious, but smiled for sure afterwards

Sajad Nuri technically yes but we don’t count the war doctor

Capaldi's Doctor really did love Clara; went to Hell to save her boyfriend, fought against his own people for 4.5 billion years, brought her back at the end of the universe and wiped his own memory just to keep her safe. If that isn't devotion then what is?
what is indeed!
I always felt Clara didnt deserve it. So many companions better than her. The character was a major turn off for me.

Definitely agree. That's why I really liked very much this friendship in season 9
@@CinemaBiohazard my second favorite quote from 12: "always try to be nice, but never fail to be kind".
Exactly one of the reasons 12 is one of my favorite doctors
@@CinemaBiohazard "the coldness was a front" i love that sm. idc what anyone says, deep down clara's always been a softie, sure she does messed up things sometimes but honestly who doesn't. she was real and human, but she had a big heart and will always be a favourite of mine.
I think that's why the twelfth's doctor's love for clara seems so deep compared to the eleventh's. sure the eleventh really was flirty and more affectionate but the twelfth doctor was so much more sacrificial in his love for clara.
Because, unlike 11th, he realized he is not a partner for her.
deb well the Eleventh was extremely suspicious of Clara. He didn't allow himself to love her like he did with Amy for instance. After he found out who she was he treated her like every other companion.Just watch the Time of The Doctor: he did everything to keep her save even if it means he won't see her again.
you can't really compare it because it were different circumstances.
Severus Versus the Eleventh Doctor flirted with Clara but he wasn't interested.Big difference. Doesn't mean that he didn't like her
Sorry, but he himself said he had to realize that he is not her boyfriend, wich means he thought of him like that.
I totally fell in love with the twelfth doctor at this moment. how can he be so forgiving and so giving after such an insanely selfish act.
That's different than if he/she did something to a random stranger. i"m not saying one is better or worse than the other act, but i'm saying that one can be felt more personally and have a deeper sting than the other.
well really the master/missy is the doctors bestest friend, so i dont think it would matter what he had done, he would still always love him/her

@Nebula I think he didn't
You can almost see his ears perk up like a confused puppy when he tilts his head
Also because it wasn't romantic.
@Ayla Alya and if you search the internet you will see that there is a deleted scene between the doctor and clara in which they kiss in the mouth
I still think as time passes people will see Peter Capaldi as quite an underrated Doctor. His run was marred with some of the weaker writing since the show came back. He was a great Doctor.
Still there was no episode during his time that was worse than Love and Monsters or Fear Her.
Tina Sara true. Some ideas during his run may not have been the best, but they definitely were not on the level of crap like Love and Monsters or Fear Her.
Tina Sara Agreed, the only thing that comes close to either is Sleep No More. Tbh, had Gatiss taken out all the silly elements and changed the monster to something less laughable, SNM could’ve been very good
to be honest, barring Tennant and Tom Baker, Capaldi comes a close 3rd for me
It's interesting how Colin Baker and Peter Capaldi's times in the role were marred by some wonky writing but in general both actors managed to rise above it and do some amazing things. Also note they were also Doctors who were seen as abrasive but eventually became more well-rounded and deeper Doctors than one expects.
I do love the chemistry between Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman.
Green Whovian well I though Matt's was great with Jenna to but I think he was just trying to get over Karen and Arthur.
Green Whovian yeah. don't worry I do agree with your comment that Peter and Jenna were better but I thought Matt and Jenna were good to but I liked Matt with Karen and Arthur better and also Alex Kingson as well.

This is my new favorite analysis of this scene.

funny that you think it’s a genuine smile? well, maybe it is. but it’s bittersweet.
I like how there’s no background music when he tells her how much she means to him. The words and the acting say it all. No other Doctor could’ve pulled this off. Jenna was so spot on with her guilt and remorse. She always makes me cry so easily.

"Do you think I care for you so little that betraying me would make a difference"...That line brings tears to my eyes.
The Doctor cares so much that even betrayal can't break his friendships apart....NOW THATS LOVE
He did the sane thing with the Master
I wish that worked with my scenario, but it's just me forgiving him knowing he doesnt actually care

When he said "Go to hell" when I first saw this I was like... Damn this doctor ain't fucking around.
They just let their emotions get in the way sometimes.
so tsundere
This line made the Capaldi doctor great. Of course this is exactly what an immortal being would say and feel. To paraphrase Anne Rice, "What could love turn into if you had an eternity to nourish it?" The doctor loved and was in love with Clara. And in a reverse of most doctor / companion stories, harkening to the earlier ones, Clara loved the doctor but she wasn't IN love with him. Great great scene.
this scene. this scene was so important. this shows so much about his character. why he does what he does. who he saves. why he never stops. 2 hearts.
"Go to hell."
12 will be remembered, that's a full on 9th moment.
True. I could actually see Christopher Eccleston delivering the line the same way.
Or Rose as she said that in The Satan Pit.
If I remember correctly, in Fathers Day, Nine at first tried to leave Rose, but wasn't able to do so because of the paradox. 🤔

Capaldi and Jenna are by far my two favourites, their individual characters and their dynamic duo are unmatched for me
Gonna miss Peter Capaldi. Oh well, "chin up, shoulders back".
Same here. That's why I posted this scene!
It's why Twelve is my favorite. You watch him evolve as a man from cold and jerky to kind and compassionate over 3 seasons. Much like real life.
"Sometimes, all you have are bad choices. But you still have to choose."
I think that was the bottom line of all of 12's choices throughout series 8. It was nothing but bad situation after bad situation with no good choice. If you waste time trying to find a good option, eventually you're going to run out of options.
Capaldi’s Doctor is still very underrated. Gonna miss him.
This is a scene that to me defines who the Doctor is. Another one would be the "Everybody lives!" moment.

I feel for Clara in this scene. She just lost the love of her life and she’s in so much grief she can’t even think straight, but the Doctor is there for her regardless.
“Why? Do you think that I care for you so little that betraying me would make a difference?”
Genuinely the best sentence ever written in this show
Find someone worth saying that to, and then I think you've won.
If you find ever yourself overlooking this level of betrayal, you are lost.
Nah you're stupid if you forgive them and still talk to them
@@RichARock Depends on the circumstances.
Idk how she resisted hugging him here, he was so much like a father here, if that was me, Id be squeezing till he couldn't breath and apologizing
well knowing clara i think she probably wanted to but maybe she feels like she doesn't have a right to go and hug him after what she did because she feels so bad about it.
@@puppycatsbee her body language is screaming that she wants to but you're right, she doesn't feel she has the right
Doctor hated hugs. Hugging is a way to hide your face.
Peter Capaldi is so good. He will always be my favorite .
There are good actors and then there are Peter Capaldi's eyebrows
This is probably one of the best moments of Capaldi's doctor. His doctor will be looked back on as a flawed but compelling doctor dealing with grief
I wonder if Chinballs has seen this. This moment is alone sufficient to understand the character and build on it.
The Doctor... Is a big softy...
always was. he wouldn't be the Doctor if he weren't. ;1
well he does have 2 hearts 💕
No music, no fanfare, but just the dialogue, the subtle facial acting, the story behind it, it just makes you cry so easily. I don’t know its the most heart-warming relationship of the Doctor I’ve realised, this deep platonic love for each other that defies betrayal and hardship and rocky-pathes. Their friendship is so amazing, criticise this era all you want but they together were written amazingly. God I wish i could one day make even one friend like this, the world would all be better if we had a relationship like this.
Peter Capaldi is my favorite incarnation of the Doctor, by a mile.
Nearly a decade later, and I still can't keep from tearing up at this scene.
This just makes me miss Moffat. Truly deep, heartfelt scripts, something for all these great actors to really dig their teeth into.
1:51 my HEART i just want to hug her ;-;
At least he didn't go all Malcolm Tucker on her!
You explained it exactly as it is :)
Another example of how the Doctor has a soul of gold.
You know, it took me a really really long time to accept 12 as the doctor. It was the longest that it's ever taken for me. But this scene, oh this scene did it for me. Now he's right up there with 10 in my book.
Love this scene.

What is the epo
Hazem ahmed Series 8 episode 11 "Dark Water"
This is where Peter Capaldi rise his shines as the Doctor till his last episode.
I’d like this comment a hundred times if I could. Absolutely agree.
The Doctor double negative so, all of my friends will love me? im jk, i agree.
Yeah you're right, I corrected it, hope it's true now
The Doctor I agree that twelve loves clara but how is clara not appreciative of twelve's affection??? She put up with a guy who is aloof, careless and cold (on the appearance), someone who constantly belittles her insults her entire race and dumped her more than twice in life and death situation. in spite all this clara remains to be the doctor's loyal friend and companion. Yes , what clara did in dark water is wrong but I don't think she is not appreciative of twelve.
The Doctor PREACH IT
he may forgive her for lots of reason, but amongst else I believe because he is kind, and forgiving (idk how to say this properly. in short it's just how he is)
remember Bonnie the Zygon? he forgive her too.
remember what clara says, upon hearing a children cry, his reign of terror will be over. he's that kind of an alien.
and clara is what, 25 ish years old? (idk I just assume)
twelve teaches me a lot during his run really.
"Do you think I care for you so little that betraying me would make a difference?"
THAT right there is the energy I try to bring to my life. I fail. I fail A LOT. But I try.
I think this was the moment those that didn't appreciate Peter Capaldi as the Doctor started to accept him. It was such a moving, surprising, scene.
